Chapter 662: Thirteen of You…No One is Leaving [2]

Gabriel had killed the first attacker to break their formation, but he had no intention of slaughtering the rest indiscriminately. The silver-masked captain and the higher-ranked operatives were far more useful alive, and before this ended, Gabriel intended to make certain that none of them escaped.

His body suddenly fell backward as a short sword brushed past his throat.

Another streak of black blade light swept across his chest, and just before his back touched the ground, he planted one hand against the earth, explosively tightened his waist and abdomen, and used the momentum to twist sideways. His right leg swept into the nearest man’s waist like a battle axe.

Bang!

The crisp sound of breaking bones rang out as the infiltrator was sent flying. He crashed through a mass of undergrowth and rolled across the exposed roots, badly injured but still alive.

As Gabriel used the rotation to regain his footing, his right hand had already reached into empty air.

Crimson Judgement appeared in his grasp.

Boom!

The greatsword struck the ground, and the earth around Gabriel instantly cracked apart. The impact forced back the two infiltrators who had been preparing to close in, but a caster standing more than ten meters away had already completed his spell. Six gray-white magical chains burst from the soil and wrapped around Gabriel’s arms, legs, waist, and neck.

They were ordinary magical bindings rather than ancient roots of the World Tree, but the mana reinforcing them was dense enough to restrain most professionals of the same rank.

“Bind him!”

The chains snapped taut, and three others charged forward simultaneously.

The silver-masked man did not move. Instead, he remained farther away and watched Gabriel carefully.

Gabriel Reyes.

The central figure in the Stellar City underground trading ground incident. Responsible for killing a cardinal of the Holy Church. Suspected of possessing several unrelated high-level abilities. Extremely aggressive combat style. Physical strength clearly exceeding that of professionals at the same level.

That was what the intelligence said.

However, only after seeing Gabriel fight with his own eyes did the silver-masked man realize that the reports had omitted the most important detail.

This man did not fight according to any normal class system at all.

A warrior would not move like this, an assassin would not take attacks head-on like this, and a caster could not possibly possess a body like this. It was more as though Gabriel had forcibly crammed everything capable of killing into a single fighting style.

“Don’t get close!” the silver-masked man suddenly shouted.

Too late. Gabriel, still restrained by all six magical chains, suddenly raised his head.

He could have torn them apart with considerably greater force, but he consciously restrained himself and used only twenty percent of his physical strength. He needed prisoners capable of answering questions, not corpses.

His arms pulled outward.

The six chains stretched to their limits and released piercing metallic screeches before the first one finally gave way.

Crack!

The caster’s face instantly turned pale. “Impossible!”

The remaining bindings broke one after another, gray-white fragments of condensed mana scattering through the air. The instant the final restraint snapped, Gabriel stepped forward hard enough to collapse the soil beneath his feet.

The three infiltrators who had been closing in saw only a flash of red before the enormous scarlet blade swept horizontally toward them.

There was no complicated sword art behind the attack, only terrifying speed and carefully controlled strength.

Even so, there was almost no room to dodge.

The man in front immediately raised both blades to block.

Boom!

Both weapons snapped on impact, and the flat of Crimson Judgement struck his chest, launching him backward as though he had been hit by a battering ram. Several ribs broke before his body crashed into an exposed root, but Gabriel had turned the blade at the final instant and spared his life.

The second man ducked beneath the sweeping greatsword, but before he could counterattack, Gabriel released one hand from the hilt. His fist shot beneath the blade and smashed heavily into the man’s face.

Bang!

Blood sprayed from the infiltrator’s mouth as he staggered backward, barely managing to remain conscious.

The third man finally seized his opportunity and drove his dagger directly into Gabriel’s ribs.

Shnk!

Before joy could appear on his face, a hand closed around his wrist.

Gabriel glanced down at the dagger buried in his body before looking back at him.

“Caught you.”

The man’s expression changed drastically. He immediately tried to let go, only to discover that his wrist was locked in place as though trapped inside an iron vise.

Gabriel stepped directly forward.

The dagger sank deeper into his body, but he showed no sign of caring as his forehead smashed into the infiltrator’s face.

Bang!

The first strike collapsed the man’s nasal bone.

Bang!

The second left him dazed, blood pouring down the lower half of his face.

Before Gabriel could deliver a final controlled strike, a silver arrow shot in from the distance, forcing him to release the man and tilt his head aside. The arrow brushed past his cheek, taking several strands of red hair with it.

He caught the wounded infiltrator by the collar before the man could fall and drove the hilt of Crimson Judgement against the side of his head.

The operative went limp and Gabriel casually tossed the unconscious man beside an exposed root.

“Eleven active.”

The silver-masked man’s gaze turned cold.

From the moment the first operative died until now, less than twenty seconds had passed. One was dead, one had been knocked unconscious, and several others were injured.

“Reassess the target’s strength.” The captain raised his right hand. “Anyone below Hero rank, withdraw from melee range.”

The ten operatives still active immediately adjusted their formation, and not one showed any anger over the death or incapacitation of their companions.

Gabriel found that slightly disappointing.

People like this were the most troublesome, but they were also the most valuable once captured.

He reached down and pulled the dagger from his ribs. Blood flowed freely from the wound, but Gabriel acted as though he did not feel anything.

He raised his greatsword again.

“Are you done observing?”

The silver-masked man did not answer. Instead, he slowly reached for the longsword at his waist and drew it from its sheath.
