Chapter 682: The Goblin Commander Falls, A Bountiful Harvest!
Gabriel’s body swayed, and with a rapid series of steps, several overlapping afterimages appeared along his path.
The enormous goblin’s pupils contracted sharply.
“Petty tricks!” It roared, sweeping its spear horizontally toward the figure approaching from the front.
However, the spearhead passed through a fading afterimage.
The real Gabriel had already slipped to its right, moving directly toward its spear arm.
Crimson Judgement’s crimson engravings flickered as mana flowed through the heavy blade.
Slash!
BOOM!
The greatsword struck the spear shaft near the goblin’s right hand, instantly interrupting the corrupting power it had been gathering. The impact left its entire arm numb.
Before it could regain a firm grip on its weapon, Gabriel had already adjusted his position.
This time, he didn’t attack the spear.
Instead, he aimed directly at the right arm holding it.
Splurt!
Blood sprayed through the air, and the enormous goblin let out an agonized roar.
Its entire right arm had been severed!
The black spear flew from its grasp and plunged heavily into the ground more than ten meters away.
“AAAAARGH!”
The enormous goblin staggered backward frantically, clutching the stump of its severed arm with its left hand. The fury in its eyes had finally turned into terror.
It had never imagined that it would lose its weapon in such a short time.
The difference between them had become painfully clear. Despite possessing strength that far exceeded ordinary goblins, it had been completely suppressed by this human. Even its most powerful weapon had failed to protect it. For the first time since entering the Sacred Forest, the commander genuinely feared for its life.
But Gabriel had no intention of giving it a chance to recover.
“It’s over,” he spoke calmly.
In the next instant, Crimson Judgement rose once more.
The enormous goblin’s pupils contracted violently.
“Wait!” It suddenly shouted. “You can’t kill me!”
Gabriel didn’t stop moving.
“Why?”
“Because I know what’s beneath the Sacred Tree!”
Hearing those words, Gabriel’s blade finally paused for an instant.
Gabriel had already suspected that the goblins’ invasion wasn’t simply about conquering the Sacred Forest. The strange nails embedded in the roots, the underground passage, and the cooperation between the goblins and the humans all suggested a much larger objective. Now, the commander’s words had finally confirmed his suspicions
As though grasping its last lifeline, the enormous goblin hurriedly continued.
“You have no idea what you’re trying to stop! The thing sealed beneath the Sacred Tree… even those humans don’t know its true origins! If you spare me, I can tell you!”
Gabriel stared at it.
“Speak.”
The enormous goblin’s eyes flickered.
“Swear you won’t kill me first.”
Even now, the enormous goblin was desperately searching for a way to survive. It understood that the information it possessed was its only bargaining chip. As long as the human remained interested in what lay beneath the Sacred Tree, perhaps there was still a chance to escape.
Gabriel smiled. “Looks like you still don’t understand your situation.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the crimson greatsword descended.
Splurt!
The enormous goblin’s left leg was instantly severed, and its massive body collapsed to the ground.
“AAAAH!”
Its agonized scream echoed throughout the altar.
The surrounding goblins were so frightened that they stopped in their tracks.
Gabriel pressed his blade against its neck.
“Can you talk now?”
The enormous goblin trembled uncontrollably.
It finally realized that the human before it would never submit to threats.
“I… I only know that the thing is connected to the Sacred Tree’s power.”
“Continue.”
“Many years ago, someone sealed it down there. The Sacred Tree’s roots are part of the seal. As long as you open the passage at the deepest level, you’ll be able to find it!”
Gabriel frowned.
“What is it?”
This was what Gabriel wanted to know most. The goblins had mobilized an entire army, while the mysterious humans had gone to considerable lengths to interfere with the Sacred Tree’s roots. Whatever was hidden beneath the forest had to be valuable enough to justify such an enormous operation
“I don’t know!”
The enormous goblin hurriedly explained, “I really don’t know! They only told me that if we obtained it, our goblin race would gain even greater power!”
“Who are they?”
The enormous goblin opened its mouth.
However, before it could answer…
Buzz!
A dark red mark suddenly lit up on its chest.
Gabriel’s expression changed.
Almost simultaneously, terror appeared on the enormous goblin’s face.
“No! They lied to me!”
BOOM!
Dark red energy suddenly erupted from within its body.
Gabriel retreated just as the enormous goblin’s body began expanding rapidly. Countless twisted patterns appeared beneath its skin, as though something inside was devouring its flesh and blood.
Then, its entire body exploded. Blood and shredded flesh scattered in every direction.
Just like that, an immensely powerful goblin commander had died because of a restriction hidden within its own body.
Standing several meters away, Gabriel’s expression darkened slightly.
Another method of silencing someone.
Previously, the three black clad infiltrators had concealed poison in their teeth to prevent themselves from being interrogated. Now, even this enormous goblin had been implanted with a restriction that would activate the moment it attempted to reveal its masters.
The methods were different, but the intention was obviously the same.
Whoever was pulling the strings had never intended to allow these pawns to reveal the truth.
Gabriel glanced toward the moving root platform. Matthew and the other captives from the altar were still alive, securely restrained above the battlefield.
Perhaps they would know something.
However, Gabriel wasn’t particularly disappointed.
Although the goblin commander had died without him delivering the killing blow, and therefore wouldn’t provide any kill Extraction Points, its remains were still scattered across the ground.
God Tier Extraction didn’t rely solely on killing enemies to obtain benefits.
He could examine those remains later.
For now, his attention shifted toward the black spear still embedded in the ground nearby.
