Chapter 389 – Changing One’s Dress
Afterward, while we were resting and discussing countermeasures, we received an invitation from the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom to a dinner party. The invitation was for me, Grande, Isla, Driada, and anyone else we thought it appropriate to bring.
“What does that mean?”
“I think it means the Harpies.”
“Besides us, it’s hard to find out who is related to Kosuke-kun when it comes to the Harpies, so…”
“Even I couldn’t figure it out exactly…”
I don’t know how to say this, but I don’t know who I’m dealing with right now. When I come to my senses, there are girls in the mix that I don’t recognize… To be honest, I’m afraid that if the Harpies keep growing up like this, they’ll cross a line that they shouldn’t cross without my knowledge. I’ll talk to them about it next time. Before they grow up.
“In the meantime, shall I call Rey?”
“That would be better.”
I used the Golem communicator I had left on the table and connected it to Rey.
“Rey, this is Kosuke. Can you hear me?”
“I can hear you. What’s going on? Are you working?”
“No, I was invited to a dinner party by the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom. They said I could bring any number of women who are deeply involved with me, so I thought I’d bring some of the Harpies.”
“No need. Unlike the other races, we are not fit to be present at such an event because of our limited hands.”
“No, I don’t think it’s unsuitable at all.”
“It’s fine. We love Kosuke as a husband, but we don’t want to be wives in the general sense of the word. If you feel guilty, we want you to have children with us again. Lots and lots of them.”
“O-oh… I’ll take care of it.”
“I have your word. Just keep your word. End communication.”
Rey’s emotionless voice rang out from the other end of the communicator and was suddenly cut off.
“She says it’s okay.”
“That cost a lot, didn’t it?”
“Good luck.
“Uh… you’re a lively guy, aren’t you?”
“Help me.”
My heartfelt pleas were all flatly rejected. Shouldn’t a good wife and companion stand up for her husband in times like these? Take responsibility for my words? Yes, that is absolutely right.
“Leaving aside the subject of trials to come in the near future, um… should we go to these dinners, or rather parties, accompanied by a servant?”
“It is customary to have them wait in a nearby waiting room. If there are four of us going, me, Kosuke, Grande, and Isla, we probably need two servants.”
“Gerda and one other person. Then Gerda, and you choose the other one.”
“I understand.”
Ah, I love Gerda’s soothing voice. When I hear that relaxed and easy voice, I really feel at ease. Well, you know. When she’s fighting, she’s a vicious bear who uses her thick, huge tower shield and her massive, long mace to pulverize her enemies into mincemeat.
“My clothes are fine with the kimono made of elven cloth that I have prepared for such occasions, but what about Isla?”
I also prepared a dress for Isla. The same as my Elvish woven kimono, made by a dressmaker in Merinesburg.
“I am fine as I am. I am neither royalty nor nobility, and I am here under the title of Court Mage of the Kingdom of Merinard. I am dressed appropriately.”
“Is that how it should be?”
“I think it’s fine. I’ll go and change.”
“I will help you.”
Gerda and Driada disappear into the room assigned to them.
“Kosuke, do I have to change my clothes?”
“Yes, why don’t you change your mood a little?”
“Yes, I’ll leave it up to you.”
In Grande’s case, her claws and wings inevitably limit the clothing she can wear. Her horns are also too stubby to wear the kind of clothing that covers the head and goes down the neck to the collar. In addition, dragons do not like tight-fitting clothing with lots of fabric that restrict their movement. Well, this is not surprising since dragons do not have a culture of wearing clothes at all.
“I heard you say it wasn’t so bad when you wore it before.”
“Oh, that dress. The comfort of it didn’t bother me that much. I’ll take that one.”
What I took out of my inventory was a Chinese dress made of red and shiny fabric. The back is open so as not to interfere with her wings, and the length is short so as not to be damaged by her claws or scales. To be honest, if I called this a Chinese dress, the people of my former world would be outraged and say that it was definitely different, but I hope they will forgive me, as it is an unavoidable magical modification for Grande to wear.
“Shall we put ornaments on your horns as well?”
“Hmm, that’s fine. Didn’t you have one made for my horns before?”
“Ah, the ones on the tips of your horns.”
I often make rings and bracelets for Sylphy and the others, but Grande and the Harpies can’t wear such things. Instead, I make ornaments that they can wear and give them to them.
Well, Grande is not in the habit of keeping track of such things, so I keep them in my inventory. Sometimes she makes me take them all out and looks at them with a smile on her face. It’s very cute.
“Mmm, I’m in the mood for this today.”
“Gorgeous.”
“I don’t want to be underestimated.”
Grande’s choice for today’s outfit was a gorgeous ornament with a gold base and large jewels scattered throughout. It was made to match Grande’s horns and fit perfectly on the tips of her horns. It’s like an insanely beautiful horn cover.
“How do you like it?”
“Yeah, it’s beautiful, beautiful. And it looks so luxurious on you.”
The scales and horns of the humanized Grande are a bright yellow, almost golden color, and her hair is an equally brilliant golden color. The red dress and horns, combined with the luxurious ornamentation of the horns, are magnificent, even divine. It looks like it would be worth a lot of experience if I were to defeat her.
“Have you thought of anything disturbing?”
“It’s just your imagination.”
The word “Great Dragon*” crossed my mind when I saw Grande’s figure, but I kept my head down and my mouth shut. I used to beat the crap out of it when I was a kid to get it to join me. [T/n: Probably from DQ.]
“Mm.”
Seeing Grande’s figure, Isla picked at her robe and groaned. She was jealous to see Grande all dressed up but wondered if it would be hard to tell me to change her clothes after all since she had already said she was fine as she was.
“Why don’t you change your clothes, too? Maybe you could try on something a little more regal, like a court magician’s outfit. See that little fancy robe with the Mithril threads? I think that would look good on Isla.”
“Hmm… Okay. I’ll go change.”
With that, Isla went into my bedroom. I guess Isla’s stuff has been moved to my bedroom for now. All my stuff is in my inventory, so I don’t have anything with me.
“You don’t want Kosuke?”
“I’m not in the mood to stare at a woman while she’s changing.”
“What about me?”
“Grande should be taken care of by me.”
Grande, who must have liked my answer, grinned and gave me a good smack with her tail. Give me a break because the blows are more than painful. Even with a pad on, the tail attack works on me.
