Chapter 410 – Beginning of the End

The harpies’ bombing was a successful strategy to “poke” the flying biters’ nests.

“It’s time to call it a day.”

I replaced the large, curved magazine, also known as a banana-type magazine, and slid the bolt to feed the first round. This gun won’t stop with the bolt retracted even after the last round is fired, so I always have to do this operation.

Well, that doesn’t matter now. The flying biters that were shot out seem to be gone, and it’s time to finish the operation.

“Your Excellency.”

“Let me use the magic transmission tube.”

After telling Darko, who is holding two magic rifles with her six arms, I turn on the magic transmission tube.

“Isla, this is Kosuke. We’re entering the final phase of the operation. Take the ship directly over the nest.”

“Hmm, okay. Are you hurt?”

“No, I’m fine. I’ll take a look around the deck and come back.”

“Be careful.”

“All right. I’ll see you later.”

After ending the conversation through the magic tube, I look around the area. At first glance, no one seems to be seriously injured, but I take a look around just in case. A good number of them had charged the deck, so there was quite a bit of blood on the deck. The riflemen and the military officer observers on the deck were also covered in blood, either their own or returned blood, so it was hard to tell if anyone was injured.

“Darko, find the injured and gather them in the middle of the deck. I’ll give them some light treatment.”

“Understood.”

It is inefficient to look around by myself at a time like this. It would be more efficient for me to quickly clean up the center of the deck, set up a temporary field hospital, and let the soldiers bring in the wounded. On my way to the center of the deck, I grab one of the men under Ted’s command and tell him to give Ted the same instructions I gave Darko. This would bring the wounded to the center of the deck.

“Hmm!”

I took a water barrel from my inventory and splashed it around to wash off the bloody deck. We will have to clean this up thoroughly later, I suppose. Well, that’s enough for now. I’ll also set up some more water barrels and have the magic riflemen take care of the water. I can’t do it all by myself, cleaning the body with water and distributing water. I made sure that the riflemen who would be guarding the water were not injured, so there should be no problem.

“Oh, yes.”

After setting up the simple field hospital, I noticed something and took out an item from my inventory. It was a heavy metal magic tool.

“This is it, Flash.”

After confirming that the magic crystals were loaded, I pressed the switch, and a white light radiated from the magic tool, instantly cleaning the deck illuminated by the white light. This is a magic tool for purification. It was a prototype made by the Research and Development Department for use in the construction of the cannery. Since it was made without regard to cost, it is not suitable for mass production due to the cost of materials, but its performance is good enough. It would have been a shame to return the prototype to the raw materials, so I decided to keep it for my own use since I could not use magic.

“I’m glad I have this. Come here, I’ll purify you.”

I purify the soldiers there one by one. The purification magic cleanses not only the body but also the blood on the equipment, which is very useful in times like these. I can’t sleep at night thinking about how it works, but I’m glad it’s working for now.

Meanwhile, the wounded were gathering, so I grabbed another one of the magic riflemen who was not particularly injured and put him in the role of purifier. I set up the magic tool of purification and turned it on. It’s a simple task of illuminating with light.

Huh? Are you afraid to hold it because it looks like a very expensive magic tool? It’s okay, just do it.

“Hmm, it’s a flying base… or a fortress in this way.”

One of the military observers mumbles as he sees us doing the cleansing and healing. I’m sure it’s more than that. Well, I’m a little curious to see how that impression will change when they see what’s about to happen.

There were only a few injuries, so the treatment was quick. The most serious injury was a broken rib. I put a splint and a bandage on it, and that was it. According to the story, he was hit by the carcass of a flying biter that had been intercepted and rammed onto the deck. It was lucky that he was not thrown off the deck and into the sky. Even if he had fallen, he would not have had to worry about falling to his death if he had properly activated his fall control bracelet, though.

“Your Excellency, we have received word from Isla-sama that the destination will be reached soon.”

“Okay. Then, we will launch a ground assault. I need you to talk to Ted and arrange personnel immediately.”

“Copy that.”

After giving instructions to Darko, who reported back to me, I cleared out the simple field hospital and headed to the bottom of the magic airship.

The bottom of the airship. In terms of a ship, it would be the bottom of the ship. At the bottom of the airship, there are bombs for ground attacks and guns for defending against flying objects from below.

As we learned from our training with wyverns in the Sorel Mountains, flying monsters have a habit of attacking crew members on the deck first rather than the ship itself. Therefore, there is no need to use anti-aircraft unless you are attacked by a large number of them. However, if the enemy is the dragon riders of the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom, they will probably attack the bottom of the ship, which seems to be a blind spot, so it may not be useless to be prepared. However, it is unlikely that we will come into conflict with the Dragonis Mountain Kingdom.

While checking the prepared ground attack bombs, the riflemen selected for the ground attack, and Ted descended to the bottom of the ship. The ground attack bombs are heavy, so we choose those who are proud of their strength. However, the bottom of the ship is not very wide, so those who are too big are excluded.

“I don’t need to tell you this now, but please set the fuse on the dropping device before activating the fuse. If you drop it after activating the fuse while setting it on the dropping device… it will be a disaster!”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

The ground attack bombs for magic airships are much bigger than the air bombs for harpies. The power is also incomparably higher. If it were to explode in place, even a single blast could blow up most of the ship’s hull. Such structures are vulnerable to strong pressure from the inside. In addition, there are a considerable number of ground attack bombs stored here, so a detonation would reduce the entire ship and its crew to ashes. Perhaps only Grande will survive.

“Stand by for ground attack.”

“Copy that. Stand by for a ground attack.”

Under Ted’s command, the riflemen begin loading ground bombs into the droppers. The function is simply to drop the bombs directly under the airship. The bomb is manually attached to the metal arm, and once the fuse is activated, the lever is pulled. The arm is then unlocked, and the bomb falls from the drop port at the bottom of the ship, and if it hits a target, it explodes.

By the way, although I threatened it earlier, the anti-ground bombs for magic airships do not work when dropped by hand. The sensitivity is set so that the bomb will not explode unless it is dropped from a certain height and a certain amount of force is applied to the warhead. The failure rate increases, but there is no substitute for safety.

“Going directly over the target.”

“Roger that. Ted, initiate the ground attack.”

“Yes, sir. Commence ground attack!”

“Commencing ground attack.”

At Ted’s command, a ground bomb is attached to the dropper by the magic riflemen, and the fuse safety is released.

Now it’s time for the fun explosion.
