Chapter 1890 Deep Grudge
Chapter 1890 Deep Grudge
Dorian Moreau was lost.
He had been secretly following Adam and his party ever since they departed from Davos.
Having fought the man before and knowing how dangerous he truly was, Dorian made sure to follow him from a vast distance.
He had succeeded for the most part. In the end, he had managed to arrive at Kinran Valley without being spotted by the monstrous human. He believed that all his troubles would now come to an end once he entered the secret plane.
But he couldn't have been more wrong.
Surviving the crimson nights wasn't a problem. He was an undead himself, so the undead legions posed little threat to him. Still, he had to make sure that he didn't get in their way.
The two legions of undead seemed intent on destroying each other. So they didn't pay attention to him — a vampire.
Of course, if there was a living figure traversing the battlefield at night, the two sides would come together to finish them off.
The living were the enemy of the dead, after all.
It was the mist that gave Dorian trouble. He couldn't see beyond a dozen paces in the thick mist. He spent the days traveling in circles, aimlessly walking through the barren land.
To make it worse, for some odd reason, he couldn't enter the several underground hideouts scattered throughout the battlefield. Something was stopping him from entering those places. It was ancient magic.
And so, he spent the lonely nights making his way through the churning sea of undead, and the days perched atop dilapidated structures above the deceiving mist, wondering if he had made a mistake coming here.
But whenever that thought crossed his mind, it was replaced by the memory of his brother, Louis, lying dead. His heart would rage with anger and hatred for his brother's killer.
That alone kept him going.
It had been almost a week since he entered this secret plane. Still, he hadn't found a way through the mist. He had planned to follow Adam from afar, but that plan fell apart when he lost track of the human on the very first day.
But I must not give up, he thought to himself grimly.
For the sake of my clansmen! For the sake of my brother!
I must fulfill my objective!
Dorian's thoughts drifted to the raven-haired youth with the patch of bone-white hair at his temple. His face twisted into a terrifying scowl.
I'll fucking kill you!
"My, my. Aren't you full of bloodlust?"
A pleasant voice of a woman echoed in Dorian's ears, causing him to freeze. It shocked him that the voice came from so close. It horrified him that he hadn't even noticed when this newcomer had arrived.
On instinct, the vampire rose to his feet and swung his clawed hand sideways. For a brief moment, he caught a glance of the person who had just spoken.
It was a beautiful woman with pale skin and snow-white hair. Her eyes were the color of blood. And she wore a flowing black gown.
Dorian was stunned, for pale skin and blood-red eyes were the defining characteristics of a vampire.
His strike seamlessly passed through the woman as her figure turned into mist. It was a different kind of mist than the one pervading the barrenland. It was dark and ominous.
The mist drifted around Dorian before coalescing on the other side. This time, he did not attack. Instead, he watched the vampire warily.
This vampire… she was stronger than him. He could feel it in his blood.
Realizing the situation he was in, he quickly bowed his head in apology, "Please, forgive me, my lady. I didn't mean to strike you."
The woman tilted her head curiously, said sarcastically, "How polite of you."
She scanned Dorian intently, causing the latter to involuntarily tremble.
He felt as though he was being stared at by an apex predator.
"You're young," she said at last. "How did you find yourself here?"
There was a tone of curiosity laced in her words. Though she already knew the answer to her question. There was only one answer.
With his head still lowered, Dorian humbly replied:
"I've read about the secret plane and the King who rules it in my clan's library. It is said this place is filled with opportunities for vampires. I… I came here seeking power, my lady. For the prosperity of my clan."
And revenge, he added inwardly.
"Hmm." The female vampire nodded in slight amusement. "And how did your clan learn of His Majesty's kingdom?"
"I…" Dorian was at a loss for words. "I'm not sure. The texts are ancient. I don't know who first discovered them."
"Has anyone from your clan entered this land before?"
"Not to my knowledge, no." Dorian shook his head. "Many have tried, but none ever found a way in."
"But you did." The female vampire said with an endearing smile. "Very interesting."
Dorian remained silent. It was partly true that he did find clues to this place. And he ended up entering the secret plane just by following Adam and his party.
Silence descended between the two.
Dorian remained standing with his head lowered, fearful of even casting a glance at the female vampire.
"Very well," she said after a few moments. "It has been a long time since one of your kind last set foot in this place. I'm sure there are those at court who would be interested in hearing your story."
At court? Dorian mused.
Is there truly a powerful vampire kingdom here… just as the old texts claimed?!
"Follow me," she said as she leaped to the ground.
The thick mist around her mysteriously parted.
Dorian stared in astonishment. The very mist that had hindered his every step for days yielded effortlessly to the female vampire's presence. He quickly jumped down and followed a step behind her.
He hesitated for a few long moments before saying, "My Lady, there's a party of adventurers somewhere nearby."
"I'm aware," said the female vampire without turning around.
Dorian gulped. "Are they… alive?"
He had naturally assumed that the woman before him had already killed and devoured them.
"Alive?" The female vampire let out a soft chuckle. "Of course they're alive."
Dorian's brows furrowed, unable to understand why them being alive was so obvious. He then took a deep breath and continued:
"There is a man among them, someone I bear a deep grudge against. I wonder… I was wondering if—"
The female vampire came to a halt. She turned and fixed him and cold stare. Her blood-red eyes gleamed with a threatening light, and she warned:
"You are not to lay a finger on them, unless commanded. Keep this in mind… those people are His Majesty's playthings."
