Chapter 1901 Unfulfilled Dreams
Chapter 1901 Unfulfilled Dreams
Adam swam through the rubble and finally broke through the surface.
He subconsciously inhaled a mouthful of air, only to breathe in dust and dirt. He broke into a coughing fit as he emerged from the mound of rocks and stones.
His body ached in certain places, but other than that he was fine. No grave injuries.
Thankfully, his caution had helped him once again. He'd carved the mechanism into the runic formation that allowed him to destroy the cave and the hill. Although he didn't think he'd have to use it in such a fashion.
As he rose to his feet and straightened his back, two figures simultaneously emerged from the pond of rubble in front of him.
His cold, murderous gaze was locked onto the two ghouls as he spread his senses outward — more accurately to the depths of the broken hill. He knew Genevieve, Michael, and Darren had escaped. But he wanted to know about the rest.
The information relayed back to him through his senses confirmed what he already knew.
Koby and Kara… dead.
"So ruthless!" Narion taunted as he dusted his clothes. The other ghoul silently stood beside him.
"The death of those two poor souls is on your hands, Constantine. What does it feel like to sacrifice two of your friends and allow the others to escape? Very pragmatic, I must say."
Adam raised his head and looked at the night sky.
There were no stars. Just the crimson moon and the thick clouds. He smiled wryly as he said, "The kid was a craven, but he was diligent at least. He cooked decent food though. As for the girl…"
He turned back to the ghouls, then continued, "She should have been a little more aware of our surroundings. A pity."
Narion frowned. But soon, his lips curled into a knowing grin.
"My goodness," he softly exclaimed. "Such a heartless little thing you are. I suppose my words wouldn't have any effect on you."
Adam smiled. "You mistake me for someone new to murder."
Narion's smile faded away. He couldn't understand why the human appeared so calm and composed despite being outnumbered.
Did the human not know how strong and resilient ghouls were? Or was he simply overconfident in his abilities?
Strangely, Narion didn't think it was the latter.
"Although…" Adam began, his voice suddenly colder than before. "I'm a little angry that they died."
The aura around him turned oppressive and tyrannical.
Before Narion or the other ghoul could react, Adam disappeared from his spot and then reappeared before him in the blink of an eye.
Narion had just enough time to barely raise his hands in defense as the raven-haired youth's fist enlarged in his vision.
Bam!
Adam viciously struck the bastard.
Narion was swept off his feet, the force of the punch hurling him into the distance. Before he struck the first tree, he couldn't help but wonder in sheer terror, How can a mere human be capable of such strength?!
They'd confirmed that everyone inside the cave, including Adam, was either a Mana Core Magus or a Cavalier Paladin. So, come then, Adam's strength was so great?
At last, he smashed through the trunk of one tree, then another, and finally another before coming to a miserable halt. His spine had cracked in a few places, and his limbs were fractured, but nothing he couldn't fix.
Meanwhile, the other ghoul — the silent one — had already seized the opportunity and struck Adam.
The raven-haired youth glared at him as he finished weaving hand seals. "Kneel!"
[Amplify Gravity]
And the ghoul knelt.
His knees slammed into the rubble. A moment later, the rubble crashed onto a lower layer of rock and stone, which in turn collapsed onto the layer beneath.
The ghoul felt his bones creak, and his muscles scream in protest, yet he displayed not a sliver of emotion. The gravity continued to hammer down on him as he desperately tried to get to his feet.
But he couldn't. He couldn't get a solid enough foothold.
Adam wouldn't allow him that opportunity.
The ghoul's eyes, perhaps for the first time ever, trembled in fear when he saw the human approach him. The human's lips had curled into a wide, terrifying grin.
It was strange. The human smiled even as his eyes spewed murderous intent.
What a scary human.
That was all the ghoul could think of as Adam finally arrived before him and clasped his ugly head with both hands.
Tyrannical mana swirled around Adam's hand as he applied pressure, slowly, surely, violently. Until finally…
SPLAT!
Even before the ghoul's headless corpse collapsed onto the rubble, Adam had already walked past him, hands slick with black blood. The foul blood sizzled against his flesh, steam rising. But it couldn't harm him at all.
"The kid shared with me his dream of becoming a Paladin one day," Adam said in a flat voice as he walked toward Narion.
"And Kara…" He paused, sighing. "She just wanted to make some money."
Narion shuddered at how effortlessly and cruelly Adam had slain his silent comrade.
"Im-Impossible!" He blurted out as he scrambled to his feet.
"Guess their dreams went unfulfilled, after all." Adam shook his head in resignation.
He then turned to the ghoul as the latter turned and fled. "Though, I suppose it isn't technically your fault, though."
With that said, mana swirled around his feet, and he exploded into a sprint, leaving behind a gaping crater where he stood.
In the blink of an eye, he had arrived before the frightened ghoul. His hand shot forward, and he grabbed the creature's head and slammed it into the ground.
As the ghoul begged for mercy, Adam pinned him to the ground and then grabbed his wrists.
"It's that cunt's fault," he said.
"And perhaps mine too," he murmured softly. "If only I had… It doesn't matter."
He drove his foot into Narion's back, securing a firm foothold.
Then he tore the ghoul's arms clean from their sockets. He did all that with a mad smile on his face.
Many bats and ravens perched on nearby trees scattered frantically upon witnessing such violence. A blood-curdling scream echoed through the woods, no doubt drawing several more monsters in the vicinity.
But Adam was almost finished.
He kicked the bastard over onto his back. Then he looked him straight in the eye and muttered coldly, "Should've chosen your prey more wisely."
The last thing Narion saw through his blood-soaked, tear-blurred vision was a boot rushing toward his face.
And then…
