Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1945 Communication Artifact

Chapter 1945 Communication Artifact

As the sun rose above the horizon, the crimson light faded along with the hordes of monsters.

Despite barely any sunlight filtering through the thick clouds, the monsters still preferred to spend the days indoors.

Adam surmised it was the time they chose to rest. Opposite to what the humans preferred.

"You're sure you're ready to move?" Luca asked.

He feared that, given Adam's current state, the latter wouldn't be able to travel far.

"I'm ready," Adam answered with confidence.

Despite having no artifacts or even leather armor on, he was more than ready to venture outside. His health may have deteriorated due to the week-long torture, but that didn't matter. His mana reserves were full again.

As for his health, he was sure that it would recover in just a few more days as long as he kept his belly full and got plentiful rest.

Luca silently looked at him.

Seeing that, Adam scoffed. "Don't worry. I won't be a hindrance."

Luca sighed. "Very well then."

They left the hall, climbed two flights of stairs, and arrived on the terrace. Adam noticed that Luca had taken a spare talisman before leaving, so he couldn't help but ask:

"How many of those do you have?"

"Just this and the one inside the building," Luca replied.

Whether that was the truth or not, only he knew.

He then turned to Adam and asked curiously, "Where's yours?"

Adam was silent for a moment before replying, "At the sun temple."

Luca suddenly had the urge to laugh, but considering what his new companion had gone through at the hands of the Antlered High Priest, he wisely chose not to.

"So… are you planning to get revenge?" he asked.

"Obviously." Adam harrumphed.

He turned to the direction of the sun temple — it wasn't far from where he currently stood. Seeing the cracked dome of the cursed place, unbridled fury rose in his heart. But his eyes were calm and indifferent, and his lips formed a faint smile.

"All in due time, of course." He had a carefree air around him, as though he wasn't talking about the person who had inflicted so much pain and agony onto him, but a random passerby.

Somehow, Luca found Adam's calm expression even more unsettling than if he had shown anger. His opinion of the young Magus rose a little, but the suspicion in his heart remained.

He admired Adam's composure.

After everything he had endured — the torture, the escape from the sun temple, and the possibility that his friends and family had been conscripted — any outburst of anger or despair would have been understandable. Justified, even.

Yet Adam remained calm.

He observed, analyzed, and waited. Even against the Antlered High Priest, Adam hadn't rushed in blinded by emotion. He would patiently bide his time, searching for the right opportunity before striking.

This level of self-control earned Luca's respect.

As expected of someone who has overcome the harsh trials and tribulations of a lower world, he couldn't help but think.

But it did little to ease the suspicion in his heart.

The fact remained that Adam had somehow bypassed the Imperium's security and arrived directly on Myrrandor. That alone was enough to raise alarm bells.

Until he learned the truth, Luca decided he would keep a closer eye on the mysterious Magus from the Outer Universe.

"So what's the plan then?" Adam's words roused him out of his thoughts.

Luca turned around and pointed at the city walls.

"We cross that," he began, "then head east."

"East where?" Adam's eyes narrowed.

"Past the Lamiyan Mountains." Luca's expression turned solemn.

"What's past the mountain range?" Adam couldn't help but ask.

Luca remained silent. He looked around cautiously, then said. "Let's move first. It's unwise to stay out in the open for so long."

He pointed toward the sky, then said in ominous undertones. "Someone's always watching."

Adam's heart sank. Sandra's warning echoed in his mind.

The King's eyes and ears are everywhere within his kingdom.

Luc retrieved two small, circular items from… somewhere. He handed one to Adam and explained:

"A communication artifact. It lets us transmit our thoughts to one another within a range of a hundred meters. The range can be extended, but doing so reduces the sound quality and increases transmission delay."

Adam quirked a brow as he examined the tiny artifact. He quickly realized how valuable such a thing was. And he also realized that something like that ought to be very expensive.

"Fancy," he murmured as he inserted it into his ear.

Luca did the same. Then he mentally transmitted:

'It also allows me to track you,' he conveyed with a smirk.

'More accurately, it guides me to your communication artifact.'

Adam nodded silently.

With Luca at the lead, the pair traversed the broken city, going through empty streets and alleys, sometimes breaking into buildings, fending off monsters, then arriving at the terrace, only to scale from one rooftop to another.

Finally, they arrived at the outer ring of buildings, not far from the city walls. This area was infested with far more monsters, as these were the ones who hadn't managed to find shelter. Instead, they rested out in the open, scattered across the vast stretch of land at the base of the wall.

Hiding in the shade of a building inside an alleyway, Luca pointed toward the city wall.

'We will scale the wall without drawing any attention. It is imperative that this part of the journey is done in complete silence.'

He pointed higher, then added, 'There is a hole in the wall up there, which I have managed to conceal well. We'll enter through that opening and leave the city.'

He looked at Adam. 'Understood?'

Adam nodded.

'Conceal yourself with magic,' Luca instructed. 'I'll use an artifact to do the same.'

Adam nodded again. He saw Luca taking out an artifact and activating it. But he quickly stopped him.

'What is it?' Luca frowned.

Adam looked at him deeply, then sent a mental transmission:

'You still haven't told me why we need to cross the mountains.'

Luca nodded. Then he explained, 'During all my time in this cursed place, I've explored and mapped nearly every corner on this side of the mountain range.'

He paused, his eyes gleaming with certainty.

'None of it offered even the slightest clue to escaping this nightmare.'

Adam's pupils slowly constricted. 'You mean…'

'Indeed.' Luca nodded.

'If there is a way out of this secret plane… then it must lie beyond the mountains.'
