Chapter 2051: Unexpected Result

Adam’s expression drastically changed.

The mysterious blood flowing through his veins slowly started to become purer. It was only by a tiny amount. But it was enough.

What is going on? Adam thought nervously.

He hadn’t expected such a thing to happen so abruptly. During his previous advancements as a Paladin, such a thing had not happened.

His eyes widened.

"What... the hell?" Adam observed his body with a frown.

He looked younger than he had before the advancement. Not by much. But enough to be noticeable. His features had become even more youthful, his skin smoother and his complexion healthier.

Adam’s eyes pierced through the darkness as he observed himself.

He fell silent. His eyes gradually narrowed as he thought about this unexpected change. The advancement had given him far more than he had expected.

The Oath of Vitality has not only strengthened my body, he thought.

But it has also awakened something buried deep within my blood.

He could feel that his body was different now. It was stronger, faster to recover, and harder to destroy. Still, the frown on his face never left.

Suddenly, Adam’s pupils constricted.

He felt something move deep within his chest. His eyes widened in terror as he clutched at his chest.

"Aackkk!!!" A tremendous wave of pain exploded through his entire body.

"Brother!!" Valerian overcame his fear and quickly rushed to Adam.

"NO!" Adam held his hand, stopping the little fellow in his tracks. "Stay... there... aghhh!"

He didn’t know what was happening to his body. He didn’t want Valerian to get caught up in this.

His body violently convulsed as he clutched at his chest.

His heart beat again. But this time, something was different. Adam could feel it.

Something was happening to his heart. Something was changing.

The mysterious blood flowing through his veins had reached his heart.

And it, too, had begun to transform!!

Adam gritted his teeth as another wave of excruciating pain tore through his body. It felt as though an invisible hand had reached inside his chest and gripped his heart.

Then it began to squeeze.

Adam’s vision blurred. He was on the verge of losing consciousness. He was afraid. Terrified.

His heart was being altered at the fundamental level. Muscle fibers began twisting and reorganizing. Blood vessels expanded and changed. The very structure of the organ slowly began to deform and reconstruct itself.

Yet somehow... it remained a heart.

Adam could vaguely feel every single change. Every fiber. Every vessel. Every contraction. Every alteration. The pain was indescribable.

It was as though his heart was being torn apart and rebuilt while still beating inside his chest.

Adam clenched his teeth so hard that they nearly cracked. His body convulsed as he lay in a fetal position. His fingers dug into his chest as he desperately endured the transformation.

But the transformation did not stop. The change continued deeper. The heart that had once been entirely human was slowly becoming something else. Something vastly different. Something that should not have existed within the body of a human.

His heart suddenly released a powerful contraction. Blood surged through his veins.

Adam’s entire body shook. He could feel the difference. The blood flowing through his body was no longer being pumped by an entirely human heart.

More than twelve percent of his heart had already been altered.

It was not enough to completely transform the organ. But it was far more than Adam could have imagined.

The altered portion of his heart possessed a strange structure. It was still recognizable as a human heart. Yet there were subtle differences.

The muscle fibers were denser. The blood vessels were strangely interconnected. And deep within the tissue, tiny structures had formed that Adam could not comprehend. They seemed almost alive. Almost... alien.

Adam’s breathing became ragged as the pain gradually subsided. He stared into the darkness with disbelief. His heart continued to beat like a thunderous war drum.

With every beat, it pumped blood throughout his body, but this blood was no longer entirely human. It carried traces of something else, something from the Beyond.

The blood of the mysterious abomination had become slightly purer. The influence had reached Adam’s heart.

His heart was human. It was also inhuman.

It possessed the structure of a human heart, yet something alien had been woven into its existence.

It was both. Human and inhuman.

Adam slowly lowered his trembling hand. His face was deathly pale. The pain had subsided, but a wave of exhaustion threatened to overwhelm him.

He could feel his new heart beating inside his chest. It felt stronger, stranger. More resilient. Yet somehow, it still felt like his.

His eyelids felt heavy as mountains.

What have I become?
