Chapter 2055: Sandra’s Machinations

Adam stood ten meters across from Sandra and the other vampires.

He had just woken up from the strange transformation he had undergone only a few days ago. So naturally, he was unaware of the undercurrents of the secret plane.

Seeing Sandra was a surprise. Moreover, seeing the other Rank 2 vampire and four Rank 1 vampires with her made him intrigued. He couldn’t help but wonder what they were doing on this side of the mountains. They also seemed to be coming from the direction of the city.

"Oh, who do we have here?"

Sandra couldn’t help but turn solemn.

I didn’t sense his arrival at all, she thought.

No, I did sense his sensory field. But by the time I focused, he was already here.

So this is the man who killed four of ours...

She did not know the man standing before her was Adam. His shapeshifting skills had deceived her, after all.

She had wanted to secretly meet with Adam in the city. But upon learning that he wasn’t there, she couldn’t help but be disappointed.

After all, she had gone to great lengths to not only provide him with clues to weapons that could harm the Vampire King, but she had also staged his death, allowing him to move more freely.

So her disappointment was indeed immense.

If I had met this man earlier, I would have given the map to him, she couldn’t help but think bitterly.

But no matter. My other contingencies have been set in place.

With or without Adam Constantine, my plan will still—

Her train of thought was interrupted when Malik suddenly took a step forward, chest puffed and eyes blazing with contempt.

"I was thirsty from the long travels," he said with a cruel smirk. "How nice of you to offer yourself. Sandra, are you thirsty?"

Unlike Malik, Sandra did not let her guard down. She never did. She only appeared playful on the surface, but inside... she was always prepared to kill.

"I don’t see why not," she said with a light chuckle. "Malik, won’t you be a dear?"

"Ah, sure, sure, whatever!" Malik waved his hand dismissively. "But do explain to me what we were talking about earlier. I don’t have brains like yours."

He took another step forward, his nails turning into dark, venomous claws.

"Now, now, human," he said with a menacing grin. "What makes you so confident to stand before us so fearlessly?"

"Hmm." Adam dawdled a hum. "What’s there to be afraid of from the likes of you?"

He then ignored the idiot. His gaze shifted to Sandra and he asked nonchalantly, "Are you all coming from the city? Did you kill there?"

"Oy, human." Malik’s eyes narrowed. "Are you ignoring me?"

Adam looked back at him, staring at him like he was an idiot. "Obviously. Are you so daft? Catch a clue, man."

Malik’s bloody eyes flared with rage. It was one thing to taunt him. It was another to insult him in front of a fellow General and a group of subordinates.

He had to make an example.

No more words needed to be said. Mana flared around him, cracking the ground beneath him. Malik exploded into momentum. In a heartbeat, he had already arrived before the human, his claws shaped like a razor-sharp spearpoint and aimed right at his heart.

Whoosh!

A strong gust of wind swept through, and Adam’s robes fluttered wildly. He continued to smile in a lazy manner as he stared at the dumbfounded vampire standing right before him.

"Why are you so violent?" he asked. "Can’t he have normal discourse like civilized men?"

He had grabbed Malik’s wrist. His hands were like pincers, refusing to let go of the idiot’s cold hand.

Malik, meanwhile, suddenly felt a fierce chill crawl down his spine. He was so close to Adam — only an arm’s length!

Adam had displayed exceptional reaction speed just now. If he wanted, he could easily take Malik’s life and the latter would fail to react in time.

Sandra and the rest were equally shocked.

Then, they saw Adam move.

Malik’s eyes widened. He saw the human’s free hand move toward him. Fear gripped his heart and, in the next moment...

Splat!

Malik severed his own arm and rapidly retreated!!

"...Goodness," Adam murmured as he gazed at Malik’s severed hand in his own grasp.

Then he turned to Malik and praised, "You’re good."

Sandra’s expression had turned dark and grim.

If we lose Malik as well, there’s no saying how Jacob will react, she thought.

I convinced him and finally managed to get him to where I needed him to be. But this new variable...

Her eyes turned cold as she witnessed Adam tossing away Malik’s severed hand.

No, I need to salvage the situation!

"Malik, step behind me, dear," she said sweetly.

The vampire was in no mood to speak. He silently did as told. His gaze, which had contained contempt and rage toward Adam, now displayed nothing but shock and fear.

Sandra, who had never taken her eyes off Adam, said with a faint smile:

"We are presently at war, human. We went to the city to convey our King’s demands for surrender. Sadly, your people and I could not come to an agreement. And no..."

She paused briefly. "We haven’t killed anyone."

Adam was surprised. "We’re at war? Since when?"

"Since you killed four of His Majesty’s Generals," Sandra explained with a slightly cold smile. "I am assuming you killed them, did you not?"

"Aye, that was me," Adam replied frankly. "Hmm, but why go to war over it? That’s strange."

Sandra’s eyelid twitched imperceptibly. "Would you rather our King sit back and not react as his men die?"

"Hmm, I suppose that makes sense." Adam stroked his chin. "But not really. Okay. Yes. Anyway, since we’re already at war, shouldn’t I just kill you two here as well?"

He spoke those words so innocently, so frankly, that if it were anybody else, the vampires would have laughed.

But no one found it funny. The vampires truly believed Adam could kill every last one of them!

"You can try," Sandra said, polite as always. "All of us may even die. But..."

Her canines broke through the parting of her full lips.

"You can be damn sure we will take a piece of you down with us."
