Chapter 472 - Hell Contract
Chapter 472 - Hell Contract
Asaemon fell silent at the words of Hell. He simply stared at the
laughing molten dog-like creature, his eyes growing colder and colder as time passed.
Many things and thoughts flashed through his mind, summoning memories he thought long forgotten. Memories of where he had grown up
amidst beasts - and how he had arrived there.
His memories played in front of him like a movie shown by his brother, going deeper as he saw the first meeting between him and Asmodeus.
One would believe that he was the one who went to seek Asmodeus, but it couldn't be farther from the truth.
Not even minutes after being officially recognized as the Second Abomination, Asmodeus himself came to him.
And there began the whole talk of Child of Sin and him being meant to be a demon.
Asaemon never knew the reasons why, but he despised the very idea of being a demon. Something within him always churned in searing distaste at the simple thought of it.
But the one thing that made him even angrier...
"I told you, Hell," Asaemon growled, looking down at Hell with frosted crimson eyes, "to never call me that ever again."
"Oh, Asaemon, of course you did!" Hell cackled. "However, that's so pitiful and pathetic of you, oh Asaemon."
Asaemon's eyebrows knitted so tightly a chasm was slowly being formed between them.
Hell barely cared. It flicked its burning tail behind leisurely and
continued its words,
"Are you aware that you are pretending to be who you are not, Asaemon?" it said, mouth stretching lightly to expel molten steam. "But do you know what is worse than pretending?"
It didn't wait for an answer.
"It's the fact that you are completely unaware that you are pretending."
"And all of this," Asaemon said, "is none of your concern, Hell. Again, I am not here to talk about my identity. I am old enough-!"
"Please, Asaemon!" Hell cut him briskly. "Your age matters not in this matter. Your whole childhood has been spent among beasts who treated you like their own kin."
Its eyes hardened.
"You learned their way of living, and with it their way of thinking, even their damned culture. You have been completely shaped by them, making you incapable of knowing who you truly are in the deepest of your core."
Steam, as hot as the glare of the sun, escaped the mouth of Hell. At that instant, its voice lost its barking tone, sounding more like a woman speaking to her child; admonishing him for having bad influences.
"Your entire being has been muddled by too much unnecessary noise, drowning your-!"
"Enough." Asaemon cut Hell with a cold, descending voice.
Hell halted, glaring at the hard face of the Second Abomination.
"You will not waste my time any longer, Hell," he said, jaw popping in anger. "My time is scarce. So tell me, will you aid me or will you not?"
Hell answered with silence. It simply looked at him for a long while, its tail patting the ground below rhythmically, its mouth opening and closing, letting out soft, menacing, but annoyed growls.
After what seemed like years, it finally answered,
"Well, Asaemon," its voice regained its barking tone, "I have told you what you need to do for that to happen. Give me your soul, and sign
the pact."
"Anything but my soul," Asaemon countered. "My soul is not for you to take."
"Because you believe you have any choice in this matter?"
Hell barked a loud laugh.
"Asaemon, please, don't be blind. If you wish to go against Asmodeus,
a Progenitor, you need to at least be willing to sacrifice your soul. Or even everything. Just like..."
Hell didn't finish its words. Asaemon was looking at it murderously, daring it to continue.
It was tempted. But Hell, like Asmodeus, held a soft spot for Asaemon. The man knew it, even though he didn't know why.
Well, he did. But accepting that meant accepting something he had been taught to run from.
And that, he couldn't.
"Tell me your decision, Asaemon," Hell urged. "Tell me and at least you will be able to prevent yourself from another unnecessary heartbreak."
At its words, Asaemon tilted his head. "What do you mean?"
"Your answer," Hell simply said, smiling mysteriously.
The Second Abomination frowned.
A rising feeling of warning was creeping inside his soul, but he
couldn't pinpoint if it was because of Hell or anything going on
outside this room.
'My soul, huh...' Asaemon thought, closing his eyes briefly. Next, he pictured the beasts that raised him.
He watched, and saw the first time he laid his eyes on them. He seemed to have just been born, yet his mind was clear.
Asaemon saw those beasts the first time as he came out from a
crimson egg etched with black swirling tattoos, as big as Mount
Everest.
Then he witnessed how they took hold of him, about to kill him, only to be stopped by an old, wrinkled, shriveled, and trembling
chimpanzee.
After that, something was conducted inside his body, making him lose the innate power he had to see a large beast made of flame
whimpering towards him somewhere.
A beast who wished to be close to him, to see him and protect him.
Then he was raised, taught by them all he knew.
Until now, Asaemon knew nothing about that flaming beast, even
though an idea was already inside his mind.
But all of that was a useless matter at that moment. So he exhaled and
steeled himself for the inevitable outcome of this situation.
Hell sensed it, and it began to grin widely even before the
confirmation.
"Fine," Asaemon whispered. "Fine, Hell."
He looked at the beast in front of him.
"Let's sign the Hell Contract," he said. "But first I need to know what is
happening."
"Oh, that?" Hell cackled. "It's just that Gluttony betrayed you. He
managed to take out the Sin Core of Envy and fatally wound Lust.
That poor whore is on her last leg. Pitiful, isn't it? Now Gluttony has
joined Wrath and Pride."
Hell grinned wide.
"Envy is dying. Without her Sin Core, she will lose her power. And
Gluttony will have the power of Sloth if he absorbs her core. Don't
count on Sloth. Wrath has taken her hidden child hostage; she will not fight for you anymore. Meaning, my dear Asaemon, Child of Sin..."
Asaemon's eyes dilated.
"...without me you will die just as your fake siblings have died."
"And your death will be nothing glorious like the Madman, or even as courageous albeit foolish - as the First Abomination." "Your death, Asaemon..."
Hell passed its forked flaming tongue along the edge of its mouth,
"...will be worthy of one who refused himself. A death with no
meaning."
Dead silence soaked the surroundings.
Asaemon eyed Hell quietly, then slowly, ever so slowly, a wide
hollowed smile crept onto his face.
SHIVER-!
Hell shivered so hard it almost jumped on its legs, its hairs standing
on edge.
"Oh..." Asaemon exclaimed. "I see. I see. Let's continue, Hell."
He stretched his hand,
"Let's start the Hell Contract now."
