Chapter 516-Yours
Chapter 516-Yours
"The jugular veins?" Noah echoed, his eyes widening slightly at the unexpected answer.
He had anticipated many other responses. Even that Luminara would choose to be made from his heart, particular bones, or even something far more intimate.
But then he realised...
"The jugular veins... aren't they more intimate than anything?" He breathed slowly.
'Those are the veins in the neck responsible for something primordial to any living being!
After all, it was those very veins that carried deoxygenated blood from the head and brain back to the heart.
They were central to the simplest definition of life. For if they were destroyed, death would follow in the swiftest way possible.
That was what Luminara was asking to be created from. What she was asking to represent to Noah.
His source of life and death.
Of course, Noah wouldn't die even if his entire body were destroyed, let alone his jugular veins. Not that easily.
But accepting Luminara's request would mean acknowledging the status she wished to claim.
And that was a dangerous one.
"Greedy." Laeh muttered under her breath, barely loud enough for both Noah and Luminara to catch.
Her words pulled Noah back to the present. His eyes settled heavily
on Luminara.
"This time," he said, his lips twisting faintly, "I can't help but side with my sister."
That single sentence breathed life back into Laeh's entire body.
"I know." Luminara acknowledged, dipping her head. "I know it's presumptuous of me to ask such a thing. But you asked me what I wanted, and I simply answered."
"I wasn't questioning your answer," Noah replied. "I was asking whether you understand the magnitude of what you're demanding. This isn't only asking to be remade. This is asking for a close, permanent place in my life."
His lips curled into a smile. "And so you know, any position comes with two things at once."
He raised two fingers. "Benefits and responsibilities."
"You are not speaking to a child." Luminara narrowed her eyes. "I am older than you."
"You don't look it." Noah countered. "And you act it even less."
Luminara's lips twitched. "Oh? So it's easy to blame me, but not your sister, for her rude and impolite and inconsiderate behavior?"
Laeh immediately scowled at her.
"This is exactly what I mean." Noah shamelessly took his sister's side. "My sister is a toddler - barely a newborn - compared to you. So now I am genuinely concerned. Creating you from my jugular veins means making you the living representation of their function in my body. I'll ask again, are you sure you can carry that?"
"Yes." Luminara said.
"Are you certain?"
"I am."
"What makes you think so?"
"I have lived long enough not to be intimidated by such a thing."
"So it looks easy to you?" Noah laughed. "I think most would say the same. But you should know, dear mother-in-law, that everything looks easy when you are nothing but a spectator to it. That applies to any responsibility."
He paused briefly. "Most burdens look light when someone else is carrying them."
Luminara's face grew solemn.
"But I will trust you, Luminara."
The atmosphere shifted at once, becoming heavier, more serious. The divine beast's eyes widened, she hadn't expected her request to
actually be accepted.
Noah stepped closer, then crouched down before her. His right hand rose and pressed softly, tenderly, onto the fur of her head.
"I will give you what you seek," he said, "and I expect you to live up to the level of your own greed."
"I will." Luminara said with quiet confidence. "And don't pretend you don't enjoy all of this, Noah."
A smirk curved her lips. "You wanted me close."
"Now why would I want that?"
"Because of your greed." She retorted. "You are the greediest man I
have ever known. You always want more, always reach for more. More and more and more. You have my daughter. You have my pupil. Now
you want me."
"Aye." Noah chuckled. "I have a habit of making sure everyone belonging to a family is beside me. Would you blame me for it? I strive
to make everyone happy."
"And you are the source of that happiness?"
"I am an important part of it."
"The worst thing is I can't disagree." Luminara admitted. "And what's
even worse is that despite all of it... despite your sickening greed... despite your very profane nature..."
Luminara's cat body glowed with an intense, glacial blue light that blinded everything around them for a heartbeat.
When it receded, drawing back inward, a cat no longer stood there.
But
woman.
A tall woman with cat-like features, her white hair and purple eyes glowing like celestial stars against a darkness that had never known
the light of the universe.
She wore a white robe that clung to her body, accentuating every curve with hips and thighs that could inspire worship on their own.
Her chest was full and heavy, yet she carried herself effortlessly, stepping to within an inch of Noah, her face so close their lips nearly
brushed.
The tension between them ran high. Laeh wisely - if reluctantly — chose to close her eyes at the sight.
Not before cursing Luminara thoroughly in her mind.
"Your nature should drive us away from you, yet we are drawn to you
like hapless souls." She whispered, her hand rising to caress his cheek. "Even I, Noah. Even I. Here I am, offering myself like a whore with
nothing left to lose."
"That's a harsh way to put it." Noah chuckled. "You aren't offering yourself. You are deliberately choosing me as a partner for life. Not a one night stand. That changes the picture, don't you think?"
"And do you choose me in return?"
"It's because I chose you first that you're choosing me now. I opened
the door-!"
"And I walked through it on my own two legs, ready to be burned by your profanity and permanently changed." She finished, pressing her
forehead to his.
"So are you ready?" Noah asked.
"Do you think my daughter will be happy with my decision?"
"She will be thrilled to have a mating companion."
"That's crude."
"Truths usually are."
Luminara laughed, then immediately pressed her lips to his, kissing
him with everything she had, her voice resonating inside his mind.
"Unravel me. Unmake me. Then remake me from your jugular veins, so
that I can be closer to you. So that I will never lose sight of you."
"How do you want to be?"
Luminara smiled against his lips and kissed him deeper, and he
returned it with even more fervour.
"Just like how you want me to be..."
Noah mirrored her smile as her last word reached him.
"...Yours."
And the process began.
