Chapter 103: The Second Woman to Changbai Mountain
Chapter 103: The Second Woman to Changbai Mountain
On a highway leading to Baishan City, a dark green Hummer sped through the icy snow. Chen Siran sat inside, her large eyes fixed on the endless road ahead.
Chen Siran knew that driving so fast on icy roads was dangerous, but she was too impatient. She wished she could sprout wings and fly straight to Changbai Mountain; she couldn’t wait even a quarter of an hour.
“Conghu, could you drive a little faster?” Chen Siran said.
“Miss, I’m driving a car, not a plane.” Even Guo Conghu, usually so daring, was somewhat exasperated after glancing at the speedometer.
If he were alone, he might have been able to drive faster, but Chen Siran was inside the car; he couldn’t risk her life.
Chen Siran glared at him and urged, “Conghu, I know you’re very capable, don’t lie to me.”
Guo Conghu sighed and said, “Miss, I understand your feelings, but this isn’t safe. What if something happens?”
Chen Siran remained silent, only staring at him.
Guo Conghu couldn’t bear her gaze, so he slowly accelerated, gripping the steering wheel tightly with both hands.
The car was now traveling at 150 km/h. On a southern highway, Guo Conghu could handle it with ease, but in this place, at this speed, he dared not be distracted for even a moment.
Chen Siran understood that this put Guo Conghu in a difficult position, but she had no choice. She couldn’t rest easy until she knew Jiang Feng’s safety.
Chen Siran had originally planned to take a direct flight from the capital to Changbai Mountain, but the airport in Changbai Mountain was closed, so she had to go to Changchun first and then drive over.
This detour wasted a lot of time, making Chen Siran feel like each day was an eternity.
Fortunately, an hour later, the Hummer finally entered Baishan City smoothly. Guo Conghu was slightly relieved, slowed down, and drove towards the Changbai Mountain Scenic Area.
The car finally stopped at the entrance of the scenic area.
Chen Siran couldn’t wait to get out, bought tickets, and instead of taking the tour bus, she pulled Guo Conghu directly inside. Guo Conghu didn’t know how someone as delicate as Chen Siran could have such strength. He wasn’t paying attention and was practically being dragged along by her. He quickly quickened his pace to keep up.
“Miss, slow down. We still have to climb the mountain later, which will be very tiring. Walking so fast will take a toll on your body,” Guo Conghu had to advise.
“Conghu, when did you become so nagging?” Chen Siran said, somewhat annoyed.
Guo Conghu scratched his head and smiled wryly, saying, “I’m not being long-winded, I’m doing this for your own good. Besides, we sneaked out this time. If the old man finds out, he’ll break my legs.”
“If you’re scared, then go back,” Chen Siran said stubbornly, almost defiantly.
“What do I have to be afraid of? I’m just worried about you, Miss,” Guo Conghu said helplessly.
“It’s alright, we’ll go back after we find Jiang Feng. It won’t take much time,” Chen Siran said.
Guo Conghu had followed Chen Siran for many years, so he knew her temper all too well. Although Chen Siran spoke lightly, Guo Conghu didn’t think things were simple.
He had heard about Jiang Feng’s actions and had even admired Jiang Feng’s courage. After all, Jiang Feng had not only crippled Li Yuanjue but also killed Qin Shiming, essentially offending both the Li and Qin families.
Offending two powerful families at the same time—not everyone could do that. Or rather, there are very few people in the world who would dare to do such a thing.
Even if he’s known for being incredibly despicable, he would absolutely not dare to do such a thing.
And Jiang Feng, having committed two earth-shattering acts, must have already disappeared far away. Finding him wouldn’t be so easy.
However, given Chen Siran’s words, Guo Conghu couldn’t say much more. Firstly, he couldn’t persuade Chen Siran at all; secondly, Chen Siran’s unusual reaction this time, while puzzling him, also gave him a vague sense of unease.
After spending a considerable amount of time, the two arrived at the Grand Canyon. Chen Siran looked around; it was now covered in ice and snow again, and nothing could be seen.
Remembering what Zi Ling had said, Chen Siran quickly determined her direction and headed towards the deep forest. Guo Conghu had no choice but to follow, carefully protecting Chen Siran.
After several hours of searching, still finding no clues, Chen Siran was somewhat discouraged. Initially, she hadn’t thought much of it, only wanting to get to Changbai Mountain quickly. But Changbai Mountain is so vast; finding someone inside is incredibly difficult.
In fact, it was practically impossible without sending in a professional search team.
Chen Siran realized she had been too hasty and overlooked many details. After thinking for a moment, she said to Guo Conghu, “Conghu, let’s go down the mountain first.”
Guo Conghu was overjoyed and said, “Miss, are we going back?”
“No, we’ll come back this afternoon,” Chen Siran said.
She decided to hire a professional search team, even though it would make her too conspicuous. It was very likely that when she found Jiang Feng, the Qin and Li families would also discover him, putting him in danger.
But now she couldn’t worry about that anymore. According to Ziling, Jiang Feng’s situation might be very difficult, and she had to help him.
After descending the mountain, Guo Conghu found a restaurant. He first ordered a cup of hot water for Chen Siran before ordering some food. Neither of them had eaten or drunk anything on the journey. He was fine, but Chen Siran would surely collapse if things continued like this.
Guo Conghu ordered several dishes according to Chen Siran’s preferences and was about to order a bottle of wine to warm themselves when he saw several people walk in.
Guo Conghu frowned immediately. They were from the Qin family. He recognized the person in front; he was from a collateral branch of the Qin family named Qin Jun.
Like Qin Shiming, Qin Jun was close to Qin Junlin. However, unlike Qin Shiming, because he belonged to a collateral branch, Qin Jun had always been very hardworking and capable, earning Qin Junlin’s trust.
Although Guo Conghu knew the Qin family had found Baishan City, he hadn’t expected that Qin Jun would be leading the group. It seemed the Qin family took Qin Shiming’s matter very seriously.
What Guo Conghu couldn’t understand was, what was the point of caring about Qin Shiming, a good-for-nothing like him, just because he was dead?
Qin Jun had also come to the restaurant for a meal. Searching for so long in the freezing snow was a huge torment, both physically and mentally, but he hadn’t expected to see Guo Conghu as soon as he entered.
Upon seeing Guo Conghu, Qin Jun also saw Chen Siran, and was taken aback, wondering why the two of them were in Changbai Mountain.
Guo Conghu was a scoundrel, and Qin Jun looked down on him, but Chen Siran was the little princess of the Chen family, and Qin Jun couldn’t ignore her. He stepped forward and greeted her, saying, “Miss Chen, you’ve come to Changbai Mountain too? Are you here for tourism?”
Qin Jun knew very well that Chen Siran wasn’t here for tourism. After all, a pampered young lady like her would usually travel abroad, not to such a harsh place.
He asked this knowingly, just to find out why Chen Siran had come here.
Chen Siran glanced at him and said, “No, we’re looking for someone.” After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “I’m looking for Jiang Feng. I know you’re looking for Jiang Feng too. Have you found him?”
Qin Jun was stunned, not expecting Chen Siran to directly say she was looking for Jiang Feng. He wondered when Chen Siran and Jiang Feng had become so close. While inwardly cursing Jiang Feng’s luck, he also knew that Chen Siran must know about the conflict between Jiang Feng and the Qin family.
However, Chen Siran’s direct question meant she hadn’t found Jiang Feng. This gave him a headache. How could Chen Siran ask so directly? Was she sure he would answer her question? Was Chen Siran too naive, or too foolish?
Of course, he hadn’t found Jiang Feng either. After a moment’s hesitation, Qin Jun said, “Miss Chen knows we’re also here to look for Jiang Feng. To be honest, we’ve been searching for days without any leads. It’s very likely that Jiang Feng has already left Changbai Mountain.”
These things weren’t exactly a secret, so Qin Jun said it directly, partly to do Chen Siran a favor.
“He’s already left?” Recognizing this, a faint smile appeared on Chen Siran’s face. The reason she came to Changbai Mountain was because she was worried about Jiang Feng. But since Jiang Feng had left, it meant he was definitely safe, at least until the Qin and Li families found him.
The reason she asked so directly was, of course, intentional. The Qin family had been searching for Jiang Feng for some time and certainly knew more than she did.
Qin Jun didn’t understand why Chen Siran seemed happy. Logically, since she came to find Jiang Feng, if he had really left Changbai Mountain, she should be very disappointed.
Before she could even speak, Chen Siran asked again, “So, do you know where Jiang Feng went?”
Qin Jun was somewhat amused and exasperated. Even Guo Conghu, standing beside him, twitched his lips. Qin Jun said, “Sorry, I can’t answer that question.”
With that, Qin Jun turned and left, going to his group’s table.
Guo Conghu quietly gave Chen Siran a thumbs-up and whispered, “Miss, are we going into the mountains again this afternoon?”
Chen Siran shook her head and said, “No need. We’ll go back to Changchun this afternoon, and then back to Yanjing.”
She didn’t really need to find Jiang Feng, because even if she did, it wouldn’t solve the problem at its root. Knowing that Jiang Feng was safe for the time being was enough.
Now that she had achieved her goal, there was no need for her to stay.
Guo Conghu breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly urged the waiter to bring the food, and even declined the wine. After all, he would be driving soon, and he didn’t want to cause a traffic accident.
After finishing their meal, Chen Siran and Guo Conghu left the restaurant and headed towards the edge of the scenic area. Just as they reached their parked cars, Chen Siran saw several vehicles pull up. People got out, and Chen Siran recognized one of the men and whispered, “Li Bohong.”
Guo Conghu said, “The Qin family is here, and so are the Li family. It seems they won’t give up until they find Jiang Feng.”
Chen Siran bit her lip and said, “Let’s go.”
The presence of the Qin and Li families meant they had no leads on Jiang Feng, and this matter was beyond her control.
The root of the problem lay in Yanjing. Chen Siran thought she might need to find an opportunity to talk to her grandfather.
