Chapter 49: Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em

Chapter 49: Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em

“Ah—!”

Pei Ruoxi let out a small gasp, her eyes wide with shock.

She had just witnessed the car accident happen right before her eyes. The speeding vehicle had clearly been going over 70 km/h, and the severity of the victim’s injuries was undeniable.

In her eyes, Jiang Feng was recklessly meddling without any medical knowledge, likely hastening the injured woman’s death. Yet, to her astonishment, after just a few maneuvers from him, the elderly woman regained consciousness.

Though the woman’s pupils were still unfocused, the fact that she was awake at all was a good sign—it meant she was temporarily out of immediate danger.

“How did you do that?” Pei Ruoxi asked, stunned.

“Step aside. Less talking.” Jiang Feng cut her off, swiftly removing a silver ring from his right hand. With a flick of his wrist, the ring unfolded into a long silver needle.

He had bought the needle during a recent pharmacy visit, modifying it into a ring for convenience. He hadn’t expected to use it so soon, nor did he care that his methods might seem unbelievable—saving a life was urgent, and there was no time for hesitation.

Jiang Feng knew that while the old woman had regained consciousness, she wasn’t out of the woods yet. The high-speed collision had caused severe internal injuries, and without immediate intervention to stop the bleeding, she could die before even reaching the hospital.

If only his cultivation were stronger—he could have dissolved and expelled the clotted blood entirely. But as things stood, this rudimentary method was his only option.

Lifting the woman’s clothing, he located the acupoint and drove the needle in decisively.

Pei Ruoxi watched in awe. First, the unfolding ring, now acupuncture? She was completely dumbfounded.

But since Jiang Feng had already succeeded in reviving the woman, she bit back her questions, not daring to disturb him. She held her breath, observing intently.

Five minutes later, Jiang Feng sensed the internal bleeding slowing. Exhaling deeply, he stood up.

“Someone, give her a coat to keep her warm.”

Pei Ruoxi immediately shed her jacket and draped it over the old woman. Jiang Feng glanced at her, faintly amused—perhaps she wasn’t as insufferable as she seemed.

Without pause, he moved to the next victim—an elderly man lying motionless, blood seeping from his nose, ears, and mouth. The crowd watched nervously, afraid to touch him.

Before Jiang Feng could speak, Pei Ruoxi gasped, “Oh no—intracranial hemorrhage!”

The man’s forehead was visibly sunken, a clear sign of severe brain trauma. His condition was even more critical than the woman’s.

Jiang Feng’s expression darkened. Pressing lightly on the man’s forehead, he inserted the needle straight in.

The onlookers winced, fearing he’d kill the man outright. But Pei Ruoxi noticed something else—the needle trembled almost imperceptibly.

Having grown up around medicine, she recognized what was happening: Jiang Feng was using internal energy to guide the needle, dissolving the clotted blood in the man’s skull.

Her grandfather had once told her that in all of China, fewer than five renowned physicians could manipulate needles with inner energy. Even her grandfather could barely manage it.

Yet here was Jiang Feng, executing it flawlessly—with a technique she’d never seen before. The needle even took on a faint reddish hue, emitting a soft sizzling sound upon insertion.

She burned with curiosity but held her tongue, knowing any distraction could be fatal.

Fifteen minutes later, Jiang Feng withdrew the needle, his body weak from exertion. Had it not been for the spiritual energy from the ginkgo tree fortifying his cultivation, he would’ve collapsed mid-treatment.

“Karma’s a funny thing,” he muttered wryly, staggering slightly as he stood.

Pei Ruoxi caught him. “Are you okay?”

“Call an ambulance. They need to get to the hospital now,” he said, ignoring her concern.

“What about you?” she pressed.

Any prior dislike she’d felt for him had vanished, replaced by fascination. Her wide eyes studied him as if he’d grown a second head.

Jiang Feng sighed inwardly. Earth might lack the brutal warfare of the cultivation world, but technology claimed just as many lives.

When the ambulance finally arrived, Pei Ruoxi dragged Jiang Feng inside. “You’re coming too. I don’t trust them to handle this alone.”

“I have things to do,” he protested.

“You saved them—you know their condition best. Delays could kill them!” she argued.

“And why is that my problem?”

“Are you seriously shrugging off responsibility?” she shot back.

Jiang Feng gave her a sidelong glance. “…Fine.”

At the hospital, he briefed the doctors before trying to leave. But Pei Ruoxi clung to his sleeve, eyes gleaming. “See? I knew you had secrets!”

He shook her off. “Seems like you didn’t learn your lesson earlier.”

She stuck out her tongue playfully. “You’re so petty! It was just a misunderstanding. I’ve already let it go—why can’t you? And leaving me here alone? How heartless.”

“We’re strangers. Why should I care?”

“Strangers? You stared at my chest earlier!” she whispered, cheeks flushing.

Jiang Feng’s face darkened. “You—”

Pei Ruoxi peeked up at him, smug. His miraculous techniques had captivated her, and she wasn’t about to let him slip away.

“What’s wrong? Are you going to love me and leave me?” she pouted, laying it on thick.

“Shut up, or I won’t be polite,” he warned.

“You’re so mean!” she whimpered, turning on the waterworks.

Nearby hospital staff and patients overheard, shooting Jiang Feng disapproving glares.

“Young man, how can you treat such a sweet girl like this?”

“She’s carrying your child! At least be kind!”

“Don’t be a heartless scoundrel!”

The more Pei Ruoxi spoke, the more confusing and chaotic the situation became.

Jiang Feng couldn’t stand listening any longer and turned to leave.

Pei Ruoxi was left in a state of disarray, as if caught in a whirlwind. She hadn’t said she was pregnant with Jiang Feng’s child, had she? No, she was absolutely certain she had no relationship with Jiang Feng whatsoever. The imaginations of these onlookers—uncles and aunties—were far too wild. How had she not thought of this herself?

But as soon as she saw Jiang Feng about to leave, she hurriedly chased after him, grabbing a corner of his clothing. With a tearful, mournful expression, she said, “I know you love me. Even if we don’t keep this child, it doesn’t matter. We’re still young, and in the future, you can have as many children as you want. Isn’t that okay?”

Jiang Feng nearly slapped her across the face, barely containing his fury as he roared, “Shut up!”

Pei Ruoxi immediately closed her mouth, her large eyes looking at Jiang Feng with a pitiful, pleading expression.

Her delicate, vulnerable appearance made the hearts of some men secretly watching nearby ache, wishing they could rush over and beat Jiang Feng to a pulp.

“Minmin, what are you doing, sneaking around like that?” Ye Qingxuan asked, puzzled, as she tugged at Xu Minmin’s arm.

“Shh!” Xu Minmin put a finger to her lips and pointed at Jiang Feng and Pei Ruoxi, whispering, “Keep it down. Come watch the drama unfold…”
