Chapter 285: I Hope You Worry about Me More

Yun Xiangxiang understood why Song Mian did it. He was helping her build her career into a resplendent empire.

If “First Love” started filming now, it would finish in August and air during Christmas. Salon would be held before that.

If this painting astonished all those who would go to the art exhibit, two things would happen. One, Yun Xiangxiang, would enjoy unprecedented fame. Two, it would build up considerable hype for “First Love.”

She should use this painting in the film to have the audience know where it came from.

“I will send it back here before I leave France,” Yun Xiangxiang explained to the puzzled Ebner.

Ebner had someone take the painting down carefully and pack it up before handing it to Yun Xiangxiang.

Ebner asked Yun Xiangxiang to have lunch in his home. When Yun Xiangxiang returned to the hotel, the idea of having fun was thrown out the window.

She held down her excitement and sent a picture of Ebner’s painting to Milles.

Milles called her not a moment after he saw the picture. “Oh my God, Yun. Where is this painting right now?”

“I have it,” Yun Xiangxiang answered. “I trust that you will never find any prop more gorgeous than this one.”

“Yes. This painting is too vivid. If Amy is the soul of “First Love,” then this painting will be Amy’s soul.” Milles gave the highest accolade.

“I can bring it to our filming venue. But I do hope that you can finish filming all the scenes involving this painting first. And the fewer people know about this, the better. I’ll have to take it away after the filming is done. This is important to me.”

Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t let this painting hang in the protagonist’s house for too long. If there were even a scratch on it, she would be devastated.

This painting meant more to Yun Xiangxiang than that black jadeite ever could.

Art was special. Yun Xiangxiang believed that even if Ebner painted the same painting, it would not have this kind of soul.

Milles thought about if he could fulfill these requests. He only agreed after he was sure he could do it.

When the negotiations were done, Milles came for Yun Xiangxiang on the double. When he saw the painting with his own eyes, he was shaken to the core.

“This is the feeling described in the script. This painting is simply magical.”

The protagonist for “First Love” was a painter. The plot began with this painting. If it were to appear in the film, two things would happen.

After the exhibition was over, this painting would hype up “First Love.” But since not everyone could admire the painting in all its glory, the film would give everyone the chance to see it.

It could be an instant classic. A story which would delight everyone.

When Milles found out that Ebner was the painter, and that Ebner would bring it to Salon, he almost yelled in excitement.

“Yun, you are simply a gift that keeps on giving,” Milles was more excited about “First Love” now.

He went back immediately. He had to go through all the parts that were filmed, in case he missed anything that could ruin the film.

Milles had a mission. He had to craft “First Love” with painstaking effort to make it into a gorgeous gem everyone would adore.

Humans. They were a species that would pour more effort into perfecting something once they noticed that a part of it was outstanding.

As dusk fell, Yun Xiangxiang was still diligently at work. She was hoping that the time for a video call with Song Mian would arrive sooner, even if just a bit.

She used to be someone who valued time. Only an alarm clock served as a reminder of her daily video call.

But this time, she sat before the window, staring at the time on the screen of her phone. Every minute passed ever so slowly. Whenever the screen dimmed, she would touch it again so that she could keep staring at the time.

She could call him, but she didn’t do it. She didn’t want to.

As the final minute approached, she unlocked the phone, and Song Mian was already calling her. Yun Xiangxiang immediately picked it up.

She wanted nothing more than to see him. She had a lot she wanted to tell him. But everything became blurry.

Tears streamed down her face. She didn’t feel them welling up. She didn’t even feel her eyes stinging.

They just fell when she saw Song Mian.

“What’s wrong?” Song Mian was taken aback. He quickly asked her. “Does it hurt anywhere? Did someone bully you? Or did I do something wrong?”

Yun Xiangxiang was trying to hold her tears back, but when Song Mian asked about her, she couldn’t stop them no matter how hard she tried.

Since she couldn’t stop it, she ended just holding the phone all along. She sobbed as she looked at Song Mian.

“Please, don’t cry. Every time you do, my heart aches for you,” Song Mian consoled her gently.

“It’s all your fault!” Yun Xiangxiang cried.

“Yes, it’s all my fault.” It’s my fault for not knowing why you cried.

“It’s your fault! All of it!” Yun Xiangxiang cried louder.

“Yes, everything is my fault.” It’s my fault for failing to stand by your side when you need it the most.

“Why, why are you so nice to me?” Yun Xiangxiang bawled.

Song Mian finally relaxed when he knew why Yun Xiangxiang cried. He knew he shouldn’t laugh, but the way Yun Xiangxiang looked as she cried was too amusing.

He never knew the strong Yun Xiangxiang would have this childish side. He could feel his heart-melting. Song Mian wanted nothing more than to embrace her right now.

“Why are you laughing?” Yun Xiangxiang was affronted.

Song Mian stopped smiling. Yun Xiangxiang didn’t know how adorable she looked when she cried.

This was the first time Yun Xiangxiang laid her emotions bare in front of Song Mian. It was raw.

He was itching to snapshot this and keep it as a remembrance, but he held back the urge.

Something told him that Yun Xiangxiang would eventually torment him if he did that. He still wanted to be happy with his girl.

Song Mian stopped consoling her when he knew why she cried. It could work but in the opposite way.

When Yun Xiangxiang calmed down, her cries turned into sobs, and slowly she stopped. She wiped her tears away with a tissue.

Once more, she was the calm Yun Xiangxiang. “Can you don’t spend so much time on me. I want you to worry about yourself more.”

Song Mian beamed. “I’d rather you worry about me. Me worrying about myself is no fun.

Perhaps you don’t know this. But no matter how much I love myself, it’s not as satisfying as having you love me.
