Hero of Darkness

Chapter 1260: The Right of Acknowledgement

Chapter 1260: The Right of Acknowledgement

Even though Kahn had no will to concede to Beelzebub’s demands, he talked about entertaining the possibility. And thus, the divine weapon made its outlandish demand.

“Offer me the soul of someone precious to you.” stated Beelzebub, in his humanoid form, firmly.

Kahn furrowed his brows with a serious countenance and asked with a sombre tone…

“Why must there be a sacrifice?

Beelzebub, in return, explained the reason behind his demand.

“Death is a release. It is true freedom from the laws of the world.

Living beyond the mere constraints of mortality is what true life should be.”

“As a being born from the God of Death and Darkness, it is fitting that my contractor offers me a soul in exchange for my undisputed power.” iterated the divine weapon.

“But why that of a soul belonging to a loved one?” queried Kahn.

“Because otherwise… the offering has no meaning. You could simply kill anyone in sight, with no remorse or repercussions for the action, and get easy access to my invincible power.

Some would even do it as part of a game just to entertain themselves, picking up someone they hate or see as a thorn in their side.

A sacrifice with value shows sincerity. That you shall wield my power, which comes with a price, more seriously.

Not for mindless slaughter but as an act of absolute necessity.” revealed the demonic-looking being with a domineering stature.

“And once I acknowledge you as my contractor, you must offer me 10 times more souls every single time you intend to use me.

Those however, can belong to anyone. A foe or even a friend.” stated Beelzebub grandiosly.

But in response to his logical explanation…

“Nope! You, Sir, can proceed yourself and kindly Fuck Off!” said Kahn with a disinterested countenance.

“If you think I will keep on killing living beings and offer their souls to you for every single time I have to use you… You can stay in this cold realm for eternity.

I’m not sacrificing innocent lives like my predecessors just so you could feel important.” reiterated Kahn as he was already fed up with this twisted condition.

“Amaterasu himself is not demanding and doesn’t ask for anything other than my soul essence, which is the standard set for every divine weapon.

So if you think I will play along with your masquerade of life and death, then forget about it.” spoke Kahn with a calm demeanour.

At this moment, they were on negotiative terms.

“You do not understand, child. Death comes at the price of death itself. Whether it is a single one to kill millions or millions in exchange to kill a single one… the cost must be paid regardless whether you want it or not.” spoke Beelzebub begrudgingly.

To this law of exchange, Kahn offered a countermeasure.

“I will only offer you living beings, but without a soul or consciousness.” he stated.

Beelzebub’s eyes widened as he instantly responded…

“What?! You aren’t planning on offering me Undeads, are you?

I will not accept it!”

Kahn, on the other hand, said calmly…

“Not undead, but they will have no soul or will of their own. However, their bodies will be as real as a living being.

Accept the terms, or I am good with everything I’ve heard so far.

I will return and leave you sealed here for the rest of the time I’m alive as the Hero of Darkness.” spoke Kahn.

Now, like always… he was back to coercing his opponent when it came to making a deal.

“You, who once slew the Demon God, won’t even be able to partake in the Great War of this era.

No one will even know or remember your name or existence during this war.” he said with a condescending expression.

It was right then that Beelzebub’s face contorted with shock.

[What? Does he mean I will be forgotten? What face would I have in front of other divine weapons if we meet again?

If this brat killed the Demon God using Amaterasu instead of me… all of the prestige I established during the last great war would be nullified.

No, I can’t let this happen. I also swore to finish that runt myself.

I won’t even be able to fulfil that promise from 300 years ago.] thought Beelzebub to himself.

Beelezebub was afraid of being forgotten.

And on top of it… he had to settle a score with the Demon God.

Because despite having the powers of all the divine weapons, the act of erasing Argos’ existence, sealing the Godbeasts, and even helping create Morpheus, this hidden Abyss Empire, along with his divine ability… Beelzebub had one stain left in his repertoire.

That he could not kill the Demon God for the last time and end this entire Great War that has been happening throughout the past 3 thousand years.

“So make a choice… Let go of your pride and make a compromise, or simply be forgotten.

Because without me… You have no other chance. No other Hero or Heroine of Gods is going to come in this sealed realm and risk their life just to find and make a contract with you, especially when they all already have their own.” spoke Kahn, his body exuding an unyielding aura.

It was right then…

“HAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHA!

Serves you right, you asshole!” shouted Morpheus and started laughing hysterically.

“You made me and all the previous heroes sacrifice someone they had come to cherish in their lives.

You even took decades just to acknowledge them as the contractor and asked for the souls of their loved ones… an act that broke us all from the inside.

But we had no other choice in order to fight the Demon God or even defend ourselves from other heroes.

You rejoiced every single time it happened, and now… you are not even needed!” exclaimed Morpheus in joy.

Whether intentionally or inadvertently… Morpheus revealed a dark past regarding the divine weapon, Beelzebub.

A weapon already meant to be wielded by the chosen Heroes of Darkness always put the latter in a situation where they had to make a sacrifice just to use its powers.

All of Kahn’s predecessors had to concede to its games and sacrifice someone they had come to care about in their lives. And Beelzebub thrived upon their misery.

“Good, I’m okay with nobody remembering me. And I would be very glad if it happens to you too.” he spoke with an elated smile, as if letting out frustration he had buried deep in his heart a long time ago.

Shock!

While Beelzebub was stupefied with the current predicament and still thinking…

“My patience wears thin. I have far more important matters to attend to.

I just became the new Cult Leader of Darkbornes. The management work alone is going to be a headache.

So make your choice quickly!” said Kahn with an intimidating tone.

Beelzebub was silent, bewildered, but still indecisive.

It was right then that Kahn turned around and decided to walk away.

“It was good hearing everything from you. I will end the war in my own way.

This is a farewell.” said Kahn.

“Good luck. We will never meet again, so I hope you succeed.” said Morpheus as he gave Kahn a thumbs up.

Morpheus was clearly playing along with Kahn.

It was right after Kahn had almost reached the door of the throne room.

“Wait!! I accept your terms!” shouted Beelzebub as it stood in the middle of the two heroes of darkness.

Whether it was Morpheus who stood a few meters behind him or Kahn whose back was turned against Beelzebub…

Both of them hid the most shameless grin of their entire lives.
