The sun shone brightly over a pristine golden palace with dark red roof tiles. This Renaissance-style palace had many floors and plenty of room for holding banquets and small meetings between important people for important matters.
In one of the most heavily guarded rooms, a man was sleeping, his body barely breathing.
He was not taking an afternoon nap; rather, he was in a coma.
Outside the bedroom was an open garden where a black-haired and blue-eyed man, donning silver armor with bluish outlines, was talking to someone while sitting within a tea palace.
This was the 3rd Prince of the Imperial Family, who was having a chat with a noble who supported his claim for the position of the Crown Prince.
And around the same time, the messenger arrived and informed that the Hero of Darkness had been found and his coronation would be done tomorrow.
What no one outside of the Imperial Palace knew… that the Emperor had also woke up just that very night.
He had been in a coma for almost a year at this point, but as if fate would have it… he chose the very day to wake up when the entire Abyss Empire and particularly, the Imperial Faction was in shambles.
After regaining his senses, the first thing the Emperor did was call for his heirs.
He was still in recovery phase and couldn’t move despite being a Peak 7th-Stage saint himself.
And the reason why he went into a coma in the first place was due to a phenomenon called Soul Dissonance.
It was the same situation where Kassandra Mikealson almost sacrificed herself to save Kahn, and the latter had to share a part of his soul to save her life.
But he had help from Armin, who had a particular ability called Soul Reformation, which helped in his recovery.

Now, the Emperor himself was a frail old man, and most of his World Energy was as good as gone.
As for the reason why he suffered from Soul Dissonance… it was a well-guarded secret of the Imperial Family.

In the Royal Bed Chambers… the Emperor, assisted with the Royal Guards, lay on his bed as three princes knelt in front of the bed.
Everyone shared their pleasantries and conveyed how relieved they were to see him awake again.
But the Emperor, despite his sorry state… decided to talk about two important topics as if he was in a hurry.
The first one is the Succession War.
It was decided that the 3rd Prince would become the next Emperor, given his previous military achievements, his control over the Imperial Army, and support from the nobles.
The 5th Prince would be his Commander-in-Chief and would handle the overall operation of his forces.
The 9th Prince, on the other hand, would be in charge of the Royal Treasury, which also included him in monitoring their estates, lands, and businesses.
But in the end, the latter two would serve the new Emperor.
It was not a hasty decision but something he had thought of for a long time before his situation got worse.
“Do not be discontent with my decision. The survival of the Imperial Faction is far more important than who sits upon the throne.
Out of my 8 sons and 3 daughters… You are the only 3 left who can hold these important positions.
The rest of the weaklings who couldn’t even become a 5th-stage saint are not worthy to even stand before me.
As for those who are still alive, just grant them Count titles and marry them into noble clans with the most wealth and influence.

But if I had to recommend… I think it’s the Carette Family that has more knights and Semi-Saints who could be used to solidify the new Emperor’s reign.
We can just promise that the children born from their heir and the 1st princess will have a secured spot for the succession war for the next generation. That alone will bind them to the Imperial Family and have their forces at our beck and call.” said the old and bald royal advisor.
