Chapter 1274: Last Enemy Down
Chapter 1274: Last Enemy Down
The following week, under Kahn and Ronin’s careful planning, all the active ministers and officials received messages in their private abodes. A letter and an artifact with the recordings of the dirt and corruption they committed.
All of those artifacts contained exact information, and the acts of these individuals, who gleefully participated in them, as most couldn’t even hide their greedy expressions.
And in the letter were a set of instructions. The ones they had to follow unless they wanted the public to not only know of their wrongdoings but also face actual criminal charges.
They start blackmailing the elected politicians, corrupt government officials, and also business organizations that sponsored these politicians to get monetary gain, such as government contracts and unknown secret deals without public knowledge.
It caused an upheaval among the political party and even the business world because all the major key players in these fields were now compromised to a degree that would not only expose them, but also destroy the entire power structure they had built over centuries.
The system that existed on paper as a deterrence to keep both the Cult and Imperials in check was long corrupted and became a power play among the rich while excluding the normal citizens long ago.
Government grants, relief programs, special benefits… a lot of them were systematically used by people who never needed them in the first place.
And the price to pay for those scams came from the wallets of normal people who somehow still believed in the system and tried to live honest lives.
As for the first instruction…
It was to shake the very core of the reigning government.
Soon, the Senate had a vote conducted over the presiding President and State Ministers.
Out of 465 Cabinet Ministers spread across the Abyss Empire, 328 of them proposed the impeachment of the President as a No Confidence motion was officially announced by them across the Abyss Empire.
One after another, people keep turning against each other since they were blackmailed.
And all of them received another order.
Break off any political coalition or ties with the current government and resign from your positions, or the entire empire would hear about your crimes and corruption.
But you know the worst part of it?
Ronin and his hidden shadows not only stole the evidence of those crimes but also all the amassed wealth of these politicians, leaders, and officials.
Because if they did not even have any backup money left to lean on after resigning… not only would they become criminals, but also wouldn’t have a future where they get to live comfortably and work in any field, such as business or contractors.
Since no one would prefer to work with thieves and cons who were publicly known to have stolen everyone’s money.
It wasn’t just about saving their asses anymore. It was about survival.
And all of them were pushed to such a corner because Ronin, under Kahn’s orders, had taken away their last line of defense.
If no one had any money to fight against the crimes they were accused of in the Court of Law… would they dare to risk it all and still hold their positions?

Meanwhile, the Opposition Party wasn’t spared either.
Kahn wanted to have his own people put into positions of authority. Just because the leading party turned out to be corrupt, many foolish voters would assume that the opposition was filled with honest people.
It was an obvious lie spread in every nation, as the narrative always had a hero and a villain. Sometimes it was the current government or the opposition party, just with roles switching between them from time to time.
But only smart people would understand that, whether Liberal or Conservative, Republican or Democrat… they were all wolves hiding among the sheep; killing and bleeding normal people dry in the name of taxes while honest and hardworking people struggled to even pay their rent or feed their children.
And all these people pretended to fight against each other while their children went to the same schools and private universities for the elites, and their wives laughed with each other during the kitty parties held in lavish hotels.
These politicians and leaders worked with each other on several projects that raked in enormous money in the name of development projects or mining, while amassing immense wealth, and then they ostracized each other in front of the public.
And normal people, being extremely clever as they are… took sides and hated each other over the political views, causing a nationwide divide as well as discord among the populace while the system leeched off their money and their lives equally, no matter which political spectrum one believed in or supported.
Kahn knew that taking out one side wouldn’t be enough. He had to take out all parties at the same time and place his new people to completely control the Senate, as their forces and resources would also play a detrimental part in the Great War.
At the present moment in the Cult of Darkborne headquarters…
Kahn summoned Morrigan Morningstar, the High Priestess.
He commands her to summon all the people in the list Ronin gave and ordain them in the Church of Darkness, saying that the Cult Leader wishes them to cleanse the rot from the Abyss Empire and give power back to the people.

The Next Week…
The Senate officially passed the No Confidence motion, and all the reigning ministers soon followed with their resignations on the day after.
Normally, if one corrupt politician was caught, the party would replace them with another and even bring in new faces who would file candidacy to stand for elections.
However, this time, even the fresh faces they brought out felt like corrupt people beforehand as rumors linking them to heretics began.
Generally, both the Cult of Dakness and Imperial Faction stayed away from general elections, but this time, they both officially started supporting completely new faces.
Kahn had instructed Alcina Deux Luvian to get involved in this matter as well.
And all these people’s chosen faces soon started making appearances in both the churches and temples, as well as events held by both the factions.
The devotees started seeing them as people chosen by God of Darkness, and the Imperial Family openly acknowledged their talent and capabilities as the promotions went wild through broadcasts, entertainment news similar to radio shows on earth.
On top of it, because the hidden money was already stolen, the new candidates from both political parties were lacking in funding and connections to promote them to the masses.
Most of them either had to sell off the properties they already owned or had hidden away, or lend money from banks or loan sharks just to fund these operations.
Here, it also became another hurdle because Ronin had his spies steal even the documentation of most of these properties, so the people of the Senate and their lackeys couldn’t even sell them without the proof.
One after another, the elections were coming close, and the previously reigning government as well as the opposition party leaders were on the brink of bankruptcy just to keep their political careers afloat.
No one had expected that both the Cult and the Imperial Faction would unify out of nowhere, and also that their own people would be blackmailed into oblivion.
The money hoarded over the decades was also no longer in their possession, and the crippling dread of their secrets being out in public only caused disarray among their parties.
Some people either quit their party or started another business, while others tried to join the Cult and Imperial Faction themselves.
The boat was sinking, and all the passengers didn’t know how to swim.
And there was no Jack to offer Rose his raft either.
******************
One month later…
The general elections were concluded, and at least 71% of the total elected ministers were from the group backed up by the Cult and Imperial Faction.
The Senate now had a new party named the People’s Communal Tribe as the new reigning government.
And the most surprising part was that not a single elected official came from a rich background, had ties to business organizations, or military experience.
They were mainly from middle-class families with humble origins that used to have 9-5 Jobs or worked with NGOs to help common people.
And the President who now sat in the position as the leader of the Senate was a former Alchemist Demonkin who spent his life serving commoners in downtrodden areas of the capital Naraka, where even the government officials never went themselves to promote during the elections.
He made medicines for cheap and lived as a kind soul after losing his daughter to an illness decades ago.
He did not want to see others suffer and lose their families just because they were poor and couldn’t afford treatment.
Ronin personally recommended this man after thorough research, as he fit all the marks, and during the promotions for the elections, the majority of the population found themselves relevant to this demonkin.
Those with similar struggles understand your pain. Hence, they are easy to be seen as a reflection of your own life and hardships.
That was the selling point, and thus, the demonkin became the President of the Senate without even being a warrior class, having any rank, a rich background, or political ties.
As for Kahn… his dream to unify the Abyss Empire was realized.
All that remained was to bring the Abyss Empire outside in Vantrea and begin the Great War.
Which was only 15 days away.
