And she asked niece and nephew and I’m like ‘niece is for female and nephew is for male and that’s that’, and she just realised that there’s no differentiation between the address for these terms on maternal side or fraternal side. Meanwhile in Chinese, there’s different ways of address which will pretty much immediately help someone understand, in more detail than in English, the relationship of said person to the speaker.
