Chapter 445: Just Like I Never Asked

Chapter 445: Just Like I Never Asked

In the middle class at Chuntian Kindergarten, Xixi enjoyed treatment like a celebrity. Her little friends gathered around her one after another. Even Yang Luoqi looked at Xixi with her envious little eyes, with Wang Xiyun, her hair tied into two little upward-pointing pigtails, and Xiaolingdang, who had come to watch the excitement, following behind.

“Xixi, your mother is actually a singing star!” Chen Shiyun exclaimed.

Lan Xin said proudly, “I knew that a long time ago. We had a meal together, and Xixi’s mother was super nice.”

“Then Xixi isn’t being loyal! She didn’t even tell me!” Chen Shiyun said unhappily.

It was unclear where Chen Shiyun had picked up the phrase “being loyal,” but she’d started using it all the time.

Bombarded by her little friends’ chatter, Xixi finally found a chance to speak. She said a little anxiously, “Chen Shiyun, don’t be angry, okay? I, I didn’t mean to not tell you. My Papa and Mama said I couldn’t tell anyone.”

“I’m not angry!” Chen Shiyun was pretty carefree too. She had already forgotten why she’d been unhappy in the first place and said it casually.

“Xixi, are we still good friends?” “Nan Zhaoyu asked worriedly in a low voice.

The little boy had become much shyer now, even more introverted than before, and more sensitive in his thoughts. However, he had also become more sensible. Since his father was still in recovery and needed his mother’s care in daily life, his mother had less time to look after him. Nan Zhaoyu needed to learn to take care of himself and care about his father.

“Of course we’re still good friends!” Xixi nodded vigorously and smiled sweetly.

……

In the evening, Xixi was dismissed from kindergarten. After playing with her friends all day, the little girl happily ran out of the classroom. When she saw her father among the crowd, she called out happily. She waved with one hand while holding the other slightly raised to keep the strap of her little backpack from slipping off her shoulder, then ran over with quick little footsteps.

She couldn’t even be bothered to put her backpack on properly before eagerly throwing herself into her father’s arms.

Yang Yi was just talking to a few parents who were fans of Mo Fei. Of course, they kept their excitement restrained in front of their children and were just asking if Yang Yi could get them some of Mo Fei’s signed albums.

“How about this? I’ll bring them over for you at this time tomorrow,” Yang Yi smiled and nodded at them.

“Okay, thank you so much, Mu Li’ang! Ah, your child is really adorable…” The several fan parents left happily satisfied, not forgetting to praise Xixi before leaving.

Only then did Yang Yi have time to tidy up his daughter’s headband and smooth her hair. He said softly, “Why are you so happy today? Did something fun happen at kindergarten?”

Xixi shook her head vigorously, hugged her father’s neck tightly, rubbed her little head against his shoulder, and said sweetly, “No, Papa, I missed you!”

At this moment, Chen Shiyun and Nan Zhaoyu, who happened to be passing by, both greeted Yang Yi, and Yang Yi quickly greeted them back.

“Papa, did you miss me?” Xixi reached out and turned her father’s face toward her, pouting her little lips as she spoke.

That clinginess was truly adorable.

Yang Yi’s gloomy mood from the entire day seemed to be blown away by the fairy-like breath the little girl exhaled. A sunny smile appeared on his face as he said, “Of course, Papa missed Xixi very much too!”

The little girl finally giggled contentedly.

However, as they were leaving the kindergarten, Xixi suddenly wrinkled her little nose and sniffed at her father, just like a dog.

Yang Yi’s heart skipped a beat, but he pretended to stay calm as he asked, “What? Does Papa smell bad?”

It couldn’t be!

After taking care of everything that needed to be dealt with, Yang Yi had even disguised himself and used a fake ID at a budget hotel, where he had thoroughly showered several times to wash away the pungent smells and bad luck on his body.

Xixi looked a little confused. She looked at her father and shook her head, but then nodded again.

“What do you mean?” Yang Yi opened the car door, settled Xixi into the safety seat in the back, and fastened her seat belt.

“I don’t know either. Papa smells bad, but he also doesn’t smell bad. I don’t know…” Xixi said in confusion.

“Then that means Papa doesn’t smell bad!” Yang Yi smiled as he rubbed Xixi’s head and said gently.

He had already cleaned himself thoroughly, and with his sense of smell, he couldn’t detect any unpleasant odor at all. He didn’t know where Xixi had managed to smell it from. Could it be that her intuition was so sharp that she could smell it across time and space?

After Yang Yi started the car, it was quite a while before Xixi pouted and asked, “Papa, did you drink alcohol?”

“No! After Papa promised you, I’ve hardly drank at all,” Yang Yi said with a smile.

“Then all right, Papa is a good child too!” Xixi finally let go of the confusion from earlier. If she couldn’t figure it out, she simply wouldn’t think about it anymore. She showed a cute, little-angel-like smile from the back seat.

In truth, there were great waves surging deep inside Yang Yi’s heart, and he was not as calm as he appeared. Xixi’s innocent eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything, putting intense pressure on him, while her innocent, pure smile was also like a mirror, reflecting Yang Yi’s guilt.

From now on, he still had to be a good person… Yang Yi didn’t want to face another “interrogation” from his daughter that pierced straight into his soul.

“Ahem, Xixi, your Grandpa is coming!” Yang Yi changed the subject, smiled slightly, and said.

“Grandpa?” 1Xixi exclaimed in surprise. “Grandpa2is here?”

“From now on, when we’re in China, try to speak Chinese as much as possible and call him Grandpa!”3Yang Yi corrected Xixi, then said, “Your grandpa isn’t here yet. He’s coming. He should still be on the plane now, but I don’t know whether he’ll arrive tomorrow or the day after.”

“Grandpa…”4Xixi remembered what her father had said and quickly corrected herself, saying excitedly, “Grandpa is coming to see Xixi! Last time, last time I talked to Grandpa on the phone, I said that Xixi really, really missed Grandpa!”

Yang Yi smiled bitterly in his heart: If only it were that simple.

“Xixi, what Papa wants to ask you is, do you know what your Grandpa likes?” Yang Yi asked while driving.

Xixi tilted her little head and thought for a moment, then said, “I know! Grandpa likes drinking, but Mama and Grandma don’t let Grandpa drink. Drinking alcohol means you’re being naughty!”

Yang Yi frowned and pondered to himself: Should he buy his father-in-law a bottle of good wine? Whether he gets to drink it or not was another matter; he had to express his sincerity.

“Xixi, does your Grandpa like red wine or white liquor? Or perhaps…” Yang Yi asked carefully.

Xixi was confused by the question. Where would she have heard of these things?

“Just alcohol! Grandpa likes to drink!” the little girl said quite seriously, as though she was worried that her father might misunderstand.

All right, that was no help at all!

“Does Grandpa have any other hobbies?” Yang Yi asked.

“Grandpa likes guns, very, very big guns, and they’re very loud and scary!” Xixi once again gave an unreliable answer.

“Anything else?”

“Hmm… Grandpa likes… what does he like?” Xixi became troubled too. She was only a little over three years old before returning to China, so how could she remember so much?

“All right, it’s okay…” Before Yang Yi could finish speaking, the little girl behind him suddenly cried out happily.

“I know, Papa! I know!” Xixi shouted.

Yang Yi looked at his daughter in the rearview mirror, her eyes curved into smiles from happiness, raised an eyebrow, and asked, “What else?”

Xixi giggled and said, “There’s me! Grandpa likes Xixi the most!”

Yang Yi couldn’t help but laugh. Although he knew that asking his own daughter wasn’t reliable, he still asked, and sure enough, it was just like he’d never asked.
