Chapter 464: Mo Fei, Beautiful as a Heavenly Fairy
Chapter 464: Mo Fei, Beautiful as a Heavenly Fairy
“Dad, be careful.”
It was early evening on the day of the concert, with only a short while left before it began. Although they didn’t have to squeeze into the entrance queue with the other audience members to get in, there were some steeper steps to climb along the way from the staff entrance to the VIP box. Yang Yi was carrying Xixi as he walked ahead, and he turned around to give Mo Henian a hand.
After their confrontation, with Mo Fei deliberately reminding him by pretending to blame him, Yang Yi had changed the way he addressed Mo Henian.
However, Mo Henian impatiently waved his hand and said, “I’m not so old that I can’t walk yet. You’re carrying my granddaughter, so just watch where you’re going. Don’t let her fall!”
Yang Yi could only smile wryly and withdraw his hand. He secretly shook his head, feeling that what Mo Fei had told him the previous night was true. Fathers all over the world were pretty much the same. They didn’t know how to express their love, nor did they know how to accept it.
However, he didn’t mind it. He really didn’t. Instead, he continued to do everything he was supposed to do, as he always had.
In his previous life, Yang Yi had never experienced the love and care of parents. Although Mo Henian and Yang Chonggui didn’t know how to express their love, the concern they showed in other ways still gave him a sense of familiarity, and it was something he should cherish!
When they reached the box, Yang Yi held the railing and looked down over the entire venue. Only then did he finally experience firsthand the excitement of the live atmosphere. The enormous Yangcheng Stadium was packed with more than fifty thousand spectators. The glow sticks swaying back and forth and the fan-support signs had almost lit up the stands, turning them into a sea of stars!
Just then, Yang Huan came up carrying large bags of snacks and drinks. Seeing the luxurious box, she exclaimed in delight, “Wow! So this is a VIP box! It really is VIP among VIPs!”
Although it wasn’t as close to the stage as the VIP seats on the floor, it was still fairly close. And thanks to its elevated position, guests in the box could see the entire stage clearly, giving them an even better view than the VIP seats! Even more comfortable was the fact that, besides the sofas in the front row, the box had some room to move around and a simple restroom. That way, they wouldn’t have to squeeze into the restroom queues with the other spectators!
It was Yang Huan’s first time attending a concert, and she got to watch it from a VIP box. The treatment couldn’t have been much better!
“Too bad Sister Ding Xiang has to temporarily play the role of Little Guo’s manager. She’s missing out on this good fortune,” Yang Huan said regretfully, not forgetting her good friend.
“Little Aunt, sit here!” Xixi jumped down from the sofa and pulled Yang Huan over to sit beside her. Then she pointed to the other places. “Papa sits here, and Grandpa sits here.”
“Whoa, you’ve already arranged everyone’s seats!” Yang Huan said with a smile. “Are you your Papa’s little housekeeper?”
“Hehe!” The little girl giggled proudly.
…
The concert began. Mo Fei’s opening song that day was rather special. Instead of the hugely popular “Listen to the Sea” or “Across the Ocean to See You”, she chose “Sigh of Freedom”, a song rich in traditional Chinese flavor.
Of course, the real highlight wasn’t the song itself, but Mo Fei’s ancient-style costume for the opening!
Her hair was arranged in an exquisite updo, decorated with small braids woven into the hair ornaments. There were no excessive accessories. The simple style nevertheless gave her hair an elegant yet lovely appearance. Her long hair flowed down her back, as soft as black satin. Two locks of glossy black hair fell in front of her shoulders, as gentle as willow branches in spring, hanging lightly over her white dress and adding to her beauty.
Of course, Mo Fei’s hair wasn’t naturally long enough to fall all the way down to her legs. The hairstylist had extended it with a wig. But the hairstyle was merely the finishing touch. What truly amazed everyone was Mo Fei’s ancient-style costume.
White as winter snow, light as a cicada’s wing, the long skirt swayed, and the sleeves fluttered! Under the stage lights, it seemed as though a layer of thin mist enveloped her, making everyone feel as if they had fallen into a dream!
This was an ancient-style costume that Yang Yi had carefully drawn by hand based on the stills of the 2006 version of Little Dragon Maiden in his memory, then handed over to a master craftsman to be meticulously made. It wasn’t simply a dress of white gauzy fabric. The bright white floral-bone patterns, the lotus-like layers of the front panels, and the wide, tight-fitting waistband all brought out the slenderness of Mo Fei’s waist.
This white ancient-style dress, combined with Mo Fei’s naturally beautiful and otherworldly features, her smooth, flawless skin, and her somewhat indifferent expression, gave people the feeling of a celestial fairy descending to the mortal world!
Mo Fei walked out along the long stage, accompanied by the light and ethereal Chinese-style melody of “Sigh of Freedom”. This opening right from the start stunned the entire venue. More than 50,000 spectators let out cries of amazement, and they probably all had the same thought in mind.
“She’s as beautiful as a heavenly fairy!” Even though Yang Huan had already seen Mo Fei wearing the outfit when she tried it on at home, she still couldn’t help exclaiming beside her older brother.
On the vast stage, magnified across the enormous projection screens, Mo Fei’s ethereal beauty truly blossomed!
Yang Yi also felt proud of Mo Fei in his heart. He picked up his daughter so that the little one could see clearly, pointed his finger at the stage, and said, “Look, that’s Mama!”
“Mama is so pretty!” The little girl was captivated by the sight and murmured softly.
“When Xixi grows up, she’ll be just as beautiful as Mama!” Yang Yi kissed his daughter’s little cheek and said with a smile.
“Years rarely fall silent, and the autumn wind has grown tired of wandering…” After the audience’s initial gasps of amazement, Mo Fei began to sing. She controlled her voice so that it sounded ethereal, with a faint trace of world-weary melancholy. Beneath its sweet clarity lay a lingering sadness that refused to fade, as she gently unfolded the jianghu world described in “Sigh of Freedom.”
The elegant, otherworldly beauty in her ancient-style costume and the serene, understated ancient-style song seemed to transport the audience back to the past. They watched in fascination and listened in a state of intoxication.
Even after the song ended, the fans found it difficult to pull themselves out of the spell. It took them a long time to remember to applaud.
The applause gradually rose. Thunderous applause and cheers, like roaring mountains and surging seas, immediately engulfed the entire stadium!
“That was so beautiful! How did I never realize how good this song was before?” Many fans began blaming themselves, feeling that they hadn’t supported the song enough in the past.
It was understandable. The album contained too many excellent songs, and tracks like “Listen to the Sea” and “Across the Ocean to See You” had overshadowed its brilliance. Now, Mo Fei’s performance in ancient-style costume had given them an entirely new appreciation of the song.
If “Sigh of Freedom” were still in the new-song charting period, would the fans’ enthusiasm have pushed it to the top of the charts?
Of course, that was only a hypothetical. After singing the song, Mo Fei had to go change her clothes, since her other songs weren’t in the traditional Chinese style, and the outfit wasn’t quite suitable for them.
So, despite the fans’ reluctance to see her leave, Mo Fei handed the stage over to Guo Ziyi. She took the elevator platform down and hurried backstage to change her clothes and hairstyle.
Guo Ziyi’s entrance was somewhat affected by Mo Fei’s performance. The audience’s initial reaction was rather lukewarm. But the chubby young man was clearly very comfortable on stage. With just a few self-deprecating jokes, using the gag from the short film “Fairy Tale” in which Xu Shishi said he was too fat to be her prince, he quickly stirred up the audience’s enthusiasm. Good-natured laughter rang out from below the stage.
“So it’s him!” The short film Fairy Tale had swept across the country in March. With Guo Ziyi’s little “reminder,” everyone recognized the chubby “A’Guang.”
After warming up the atmosphere, Guo Ziyi began singing “Fairy Tale” to the band’s accompaniment.
“…My sky, all the stars are shining!” When he reached the second verse and approached the climax again, Guo Ziyi said in his gentle voice, “Why don’t you all sing along? Let’s sing together and send the most beautiful wishes to the people we love!”
The band cooperatively stopped playing. When Guo Ziyi called out, “One, two, three!” they began playing again.
“I’d become the angel you love in a fairy tale, spread my arms and turn them into wings to protect you…” As he sang, Guo Ziyi placed his hand beside his ear.
Sure enough, this part of the song, which resonated most strongly with people, also won the participation of Mo Fei’s fans, who sang along.
His stage presence was nothing like that of a newcomer who had only just debuted, let alone a rookie singer stepping onto a grand stage for the first time!
Although his singing had a few flaws, nobody could really notice them. All fifty thousand-plus spectators were moved by Guo Ziyi’s voice.
