“Stop!” Pang Zhen’s voice reverberated across the place with the help of his Spiritual Power. Upon hearing the order, they stopped in their tracks.

Lu Ye looked ahead and saw all sorts of insectoids streaming hideously towards them. Although he was mentally prepared, he still couldn’t help but sport a solemn expression.

As the distance between them shortened, the Spiritual Powers of the Vanguard members started undulating.

In the centre of their territory, Pang Zhen held a Spirit Talisman Paper which was full of Spiritual Power and tossed it forward. In an instant, a clap of thunder was heard. The winds howled as the thunderclouds converged and swirled around.

“Kill!” As he shouted furiously, thunder roared and bolts of lightning descended from the huge thundercloud. The attacks struck the insectoids as if it was a divine punishment. As the lightning spread, these insectoids lost their lives in an instant.

This seemed to be a signal. As soon as the lightning struck, the Vanguard members started using their moves to attack the insectoids as well. At that moment, powerful spells of different colours were formed. Some Saber Lights were seen crisscrossing each other. The lights of telekinetic weapons wandered around the insectoids, ending their lives.

The insectoids kept hissing and howling as they collapsed to the ground, which was soon dyed red with blood.

On the left side of Lu Ye were Tang Yi Feng and Yi Yi who were destroying the enemies with their spells. Tang Yi Feng was the main attacker while Yi Yi assisted him. As there was a huge gap between their powers, Yi Yi’s attacks could only help so much.

On the right side of Lu Ye was Nian Yuexian, whose sharp Sword Qi covered a large area and easily destroyed the enemies.

Be it Tang Yi Feng or Nian Yuexian, they made sure their attacks would cover Lu Ye’s area. Perhaps they felt a Combat Cultivator like Lu Ye couldn’t fully activate his power in such a situation.

However, when they saw Lu Ye casting a Fire Phoenix and a Fire Dragon at the enemies in quick succession, they set their minds at ease.

The insectoid attack didn’t only come from the ground but also from the sky. Many insectoids were born with the ability to fly. Even if they didn’t have wings, they could still fly when they were powerful enough.

But with the counterattacks coming from the Vanguard members, these insectoids, be they on the ground or in the sky, couldn’t go anywhere near three kilometres in front of them.

When one looked at it from the sky, he could see that the area that was three kilometres in front of these Vanguard members had become a death zone where no insectoids could pass. Once the insectoids crossed the line, they would collapse to the ground.

The carcasses of the insectoids soon piled up as their blood dyed the ground red.

This was meant to be a life-and-death battle. When dealing with these insectoids which had been devastating Jiu Zhou for the past few years, the Vanguard members never held back their powers.

They didn’t face much pressure, though. If the insectoid attack were only this mild, it wouldn’t be hard for them to solve the insectoid plague. Nevertheless, everyone knew it was only the beginning. The real pressure had yet to come.

Besides the fact that they only came across a small number of great insectoids, they hadn’t even bumped into any of the giant insectoids which they had seen in the video.

As time passed, the cultivators would be exhausted. Even the Vanguard members couldn’t go on attacking their enemies for a long time.

The violent fluctuations of Spiritual Powers attracted even more insectoids to come. The number of insectoids was growing by the second. Even when the insectoids were continuously killed, many more of them would soon join the battle.

At this point, they were glad that the insectoids were unintelligent beings. If an insectoid attack of such a scale appeared in Jiu Zhou, the entire world would be destroyed. Such a huge calamity would cause all the living creatures to lose their lives.

Lu Ye focused on defending his area as he took turns using Fire Phoenix and Fire Dragon. He could also use other spells, but given the current situation, these two spells were the most fatal and could harm a lot of enemies at the same time.

Since he had showcased how capable he was, Tang Yi Feng and Nian Yuexian could focus on defending their areas with peace of mind without needing to share his burden.

The sounds of breaking through the air were heard coming from behind. More and more figures appeared around Lu Ye. Without a need for any communication, the cultivators who had just arrived immediately joined the war.

Not long after the Ward Cultivators passed through the portal, the reinforcements from Jiu Zhou also arrived.

They were mostly Spell Cultivators. That was because only Spell Cultivators could fully activate their powers in such a war. There were some Body-tempering Cultivators and Combat Cultivators who were responsible for dealing with the insectoids which had come near them. They also used United as One Ward Nexuses to allow Spell Cultivators to draw energy from them.

All of the groups were formed in advance. Therefore, even though many people had entered the Hidden Realm, they could still do things in an orderly manner.

Initially, Lu Ye was some distance away from Tang Yi Feng and Nian Yuexian, but as the reinforcements came, the spaces were filled by the soldiers who had just arrived.

The reinforcements never stopped coming. Soon enough, those who came at a later time didn’t even have a spot to stand.

With these people’s help, the Vanguard members found it easier to deal with the insectoids.

They were past the most dangerous initial phase of the second stage.

“Advance!” Pang Zhen gave another order.

As soon as these soldiers received the order, they marched forward neatly.

When one looked at it from above, he could see that the semi-circle that was five kilometres away from the portal was slowly expanding as the cultivators enlarged their territory and lengthened their defence line.

That way, it would allow the cultivators to use their powers better and kill the insectoids more efficiently.

If they were trapped within the semi-circle that was five kilometres away from the portal, many people couldn’t find a spot from which they could attack, and it would be a waste of their powers.

Compared with the number of soldiers of Bing Zhou who were there, an area of five kilometres wasn’t enough.

As they expanded their defence line, the area that was three kilometres away from them was still the death zone for the insectoids. Most insectoids couldn’t cross the line. Even if some of them were lucky enough to achieve that, the Combat Cultivators would quickly destroy them.

As the defence line lengthened, the distance between Lu Ye, Tang Yi Feng, and Nian Yuexian widened as well. This meant that it would be hard for him to receive support from the two of them. If any powerful insectoid appeared in the area he was in charge of, he would have to deal with it on his own.

He scanned the surroundings with his Divine Ego and discovered that there was one Eighth-Order Master and four Seventh-Order Masters on his side. He also had exactly 20 people below the Seventh-Order Divine Ocean Realm, and the rest were in the Real Lake Realm.

Their collective power could be considered mighty, so they could deal with most of the situations.

Everything was going well in their early phase of pressing on. Even though the defence line had lengthened, more and more cultivators had joined the war. Therefore, the intensity of their attacks had increased instead of decreasing. They naturally wouldn’t face much pressure.

But as time passed, they started feeling a certain amount of pressure. On the one hand, the scale of the insectoid attack had become larger. On the other hand, the longer defence line also made their collective power fragmented.

Fortunately for them, Pang Zhen’s voice was heard saying, “Stop!”

He was monitoring the entire situation, and he would give the most suitable order at the most opportune time. If they endlessly pressed on, their defence line would be destroyed.

The length of their defence line was the most perfect for the time being. They could feel a little pressure but it wasn’t too severe. They could certainly bear it.

By now, the head of the defence line was already more than ten kilometres away from the portal.

Spell Cultivators were still the main attackers. After all, in such a battle, Spell Cultivators were more useful than the other factions. It was the advantage of being able to cast long-distance attacks.

The main job of Combat Cultivators, Body-tempering Cultivators, and Ghost Cultivators was to make use of United as One Ward Nexuses and allow Spell Cultivators to draw energy from them. At the same time, they had to ensure the safety of Spell Cultivators when some insectoids managed to go near them.

But so far, no insectoids were yet able to cross the defence line protected by their spells. This was why cultivators of other factions had nothing to do.

Cultivators with telekinetic weapons could use the items to kill time by destroying some of the enemies amid the myriad of spells. Those without telekinetic weapons were truly bored.

After all, cultivators would only complement their attacking skills with telekinetic weapons when they were weak. When they became powerful enough, telekinetic weapons became useless.

For example, Lu Ye rarely used telekinetic weapons during battles. He would rather cast a Saber Light as it would be more powerful than using a telekinetic weapon.

“Brothers, please let some insectoids come over. It has taken us a lot of effort to come here, but we’re unable to kill the enemies since we lack long-distance attacking skills.”

“That’s right. Spell Cultivators like you can’t keep all the insectoids to yourselves. We’re not saying it’s not fair, but please let us kill some insectoids at the very least.”

“Lu Yi Ye, you’re a Combat Cultivator, so why are you so adept at using spells? It’s ridiculous!”

These people were so boisterous that the solemnity of the war was almost gone.

That was because there was no Ninth-Order Master in Lu Ye’s area, so they were unrestrained. In places where there were Ninth-Order Masters, the cultivators were more constrained.

The Spell Cultivators obliged and let some of the insectoids pass amid the storm of attacks. They initially thought it would help mitigate the displeasure of these Combat Cultivators and Body-tempering Cultivators, but much to their surprise, the latter argued even more fiercely.

“Hey, that Sword Cultivator! Which Sect are you from? You’re good-looking, but you’re actually a terrible person. Just use your flying swords to attack the enemies in the distance. Why are you snatching these insectoids from us?”

“Fellow Cultivator, stop casting Saber Lights! You’re killing the insectoids even though you’re dozens of metres away. It’s no different from using spells. As Combat Cultivators, we should showcase our powers by getting into close-quarters combat with the enemies.”

“The one using talisman paper, you’re basically cheating. It’s not like we don’t have talisman paper…”

Despite their arguments, there were still no insectoids that could go near the area of 300 metres in front of them. These Combat Cultivators, Body-tempering Cultivators, and Ghost Cultivators accused each other of using tricks, but they never hesitated to use Saber Lights, telekinetic weapons, talisman paper, fist phantoms, and so on. Those were typical double standards.

“Be careful! A big shot is here!” someone exclaimed.

They saw the insectoid as well. The insectoid was called a big shot not because of its size but because of its power. The aura exuding from the insectoid showed that it was in the Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm.
