Many cultivators were seen moving around in Grand Sky City. They were mostly cultivators who had been sent out of the Cloud River Battlefield.
Although they had joined Bing Zhou Watch, they had no idea which Canyons they would go to. As such, they could only stay in Grand Sky City for the time being. Only when arrangements were made would they go to their respective Canyons.
There were a total of 12 Canyons in Bing Zhou, and every Canyon had several dozen to over 100 Passes. With the 12 Canyons as the cores and the Passes as the nodes, they formed the defence line which protected Grand Sky Coalition’s foundation in Bing Zhou.
The Canyons and Passes had to be guarded by cultivators. The war at the frontline was intense, and many cultivators would be injured or killed. Therefore, they always needed new cultivators to join Bing Zhou Watch.
Since a lot of new people had joined Bing Zhou Watch, many Divine Ocean Realm Masters left their Canyons and returned to Grand Sky City, ready to take these new sentries.
In a particular hall in Grand Sky City, 12 people were seated as they were having a joyful conversation.
Suddenly, a person rushed into the hall and presented a jade slip. “Commanders, all the new sentries are on the list here. Please have a look.”
Upon hearing that, all of them nodded. A handsome young man lifted his hand and drew the jade slip from the cultivator. He swept a glance over the other 11 people and said with a smile, “Shall we start, then?”
“Sure.” Someone nodded.
“Alright.”
The young man hummed in response and exerted more force with his hand, after which the jade slip came apart. At the same time, he activated his powerful Divine Ego as invisible ripples spread in all directions with him as the centre. Although he looked young, he was actually a Divine Ocean Realm Master.
As the ripples spread, dots of light drifted from the broken jade slip and illuminated the entire hall. It was as though a sky full of Stars had descended upon this space.
All 12 of them activated their Divine Egos and scanned the countless lights. Instantly, they could read the information contained in the lights in their minds.
Every dot of light represented a new sentry. It included all his information such as his background, Sect, cultivation, age, and military rank. That way, it would be easier for these 12 people to select the cultivators they preferred.
“I’ll take this one.” An old man smiled and lifted his hand, after which a dot of light was drawn to him and sucked into an empty jade slip in his hand. It showed that he had selected this new sentry and would bring him to his Canyon. As for what position the new sentry would hold when he reached there, it would be decided later.
All 12 of them were selecting cultivators they preferred. Although their movements seemed slow, the dots of light in the hall were rapidly disappearing.
They were snatching talented cultivators. It was a tradition that had been going on in Bing Zhou Watch for a long time. Brilliant cultivators were needed in all Canyons. If they were slow, they wouldn’t get the cultivators they wanted.
Therefore, these 12 people who came from the Canyons to snatch new sentries were all cultivators with powerful Divine Egos. Only with mighty Divine Egos could they be in an advantageous position in such a matter.
Barely several minutes later, all the new sentries were taken. In a way, their futures had been decided at that moment.
All 12 Canyons had different environments. Some Canyons were at an advantage when dealing with the enemies from Thousand Demon Ridge, so the cultivators were naturally in a safer environment. On the other hand, some Canyons were the exact opposite. The cultivators there would be in a dangerous environment.
The young man, who had received the jade slip earlier, swept a glance over them with a smile. “It seems that everyone has chosen their favourite cultivators. Let’s end the meeting here, then.”
“Wait a minute,” an old woman suddenly said.
All of them turned to look at her.
She glanced at the cultivator who had sent them the list of new sentries. “The list is incomplete, isn’t it?”
The cultivator replied, “All the new sentries have been included in this list. We didn’t miss anyone.”
“I don’t think so.” The old woman sneered. “As far as I’m concerned, a particular person isn’t on the list.”
“Oh?” The young man appeared doubtful. “How do you know a particular person isn’t on the list, Elder Yu? It seems that you’ve been paying attention to that person. Which Sect is he from? Why does he catch your attention?”
The others were curious as well. Supposedly, Divine Ocean Realm Masters like them were there to snatch new sentries for their respective Canyons. Now that they’d gotten their share, they should take the new sentries to the frontline instead of being concerned if anyone was missing from the list. The Commander of the Ministry of Recruitment would be the one dealing with such a matter.
Moreover, the new sentries were mostly in the Cloud River Realm, and a small number of them were in the Spirit Creek Realm. Usually, Divine Ocean Realm Masters wouldn’t pay much attention to these cultivators. As such, it was odd that the old woman was concerned about a particular cultivator.
“Naturally, the Junior I’ve been paying attention to is no ordinary cultivator. I’m sure all of you have heard of his name before.” Then, she turned to look at the cultivator, who had sent them the jade slip. “Hasn’t Lu Yi Ye from Crimson Blood Sect reported for duty? As far as I know, the deadline given to him by the Ministry of Orders is long due. If he hasn’t reported for duty, he should be killed. If he has, why isn’t his name on the list?”
At the mention of the Crimson Blood Sect, all of them understood what was going on. The Crimson Blood Sect was a special Sect in Bing Zhou. Many people were grateful to them, but there were also many who were resentful of them.
The old woman was undoubtedly the latter. She had never concealed her hatred for the Crimson Blood Sect. That was because her only Son worked for Feng Wujiang of the Crimson Blood Sect in the past. He made a huge mistake, and Feng Wujiang decided to kill him to show that he was impartial.
After Feng Wujiang was dead, the Crimson Blood Sect also went South. Although many years had passed, the resentment never subsided.
Several years ago, Crimson Blood Sect was set to be eliminated from the Heavens’ evaluation process, but Lu Yi Ye appeared out of nowhere and saved Crimson Blood Sect. Now, the Sect seemed to be rising again.
The old woman had come all the way here for her official duty as well as her vested interest. As the representative of her Canyon, she had to select new sentries. At the same time, she had her eyes on Lu Yi Ye from the Crimson Blood Sect.
If Lu Ye fell into her hands, he would end up in a horrible state. There were many methods within Bing Zhou Watch that she could employ to torment Lu Ye. However, the person she was looking for wasn’t on the list of new sentries.
“Elder Yu, many years have passed. Moreover, that incident…” The young man frowned, thinking that it was inappropriate for a Divine Ocean Realm Master to target a Cloud River Realm Master. Moreover, the matter had nothing to do with Lu Ye as Feng Wujiang was the one who executed her Son in the past.
When Feng Wujiang had made a name for himself, Lu Ye wasn’t even born yet. If the old woman got her way, it would tarnish the reputation of Bing Zhou Watch.
“Do not talk about the past with me!” the old woman growled. “As the leader of the Department of Recruitment in Heavenly Gate Canyon, I have a duty to select some brilliant cultivators. Lu Yi Ye from Crimson Blood Sect is a famous rising Star. What’s wrong with me wanting to bring him to Heavenly Gate Canyon so that he’ll make some contributions?”
Certainly, there was nothing wrong with it, and she had made a good argument. Even though these people knew what was on the old woman’s mind, they couldn’t criticise her.
“Or, does any one of you want to snatch him from me?” A glow radiated from the old woman’s turbid eyes as she swept a glance over them.
Some of them furrowed their brows while some of them decided to steer clear of the matter.
Since no one spoke, the old woman turned to look at the cultivator. “Lu Yi Ye isn’t on the list. Hasn’t he reported for duty yet? In that case, he should be killed!”
“I know little about this matter.” The cultivator’s forehead was beaded with sweat. He was only there to send them the list, so it surprised him that such an incident even happened. Moreover, he didn’t know who Lu Yi Ye was.
“If you don’t know, ask around!” the old woman demanded.
“Yes! Please give me a second, Commanders,” the cultivator replied and asked around for information about Lu Ye. When he got the answer, he was shocked.
“What’s wrong?” the old woman asked grimly.
“Commander Yu, Lu Yi Ye from Crimson Blood Sect had reported for duty several days ago, but…”
Seeing how hesitant the cultivator was, the young man urged him, saying, “But what?”
With an awkward expression, the cultivator replied, “It was said that when he reported for duty, he offended Commander Qian and Commander Fan. As such, Commander Qian sent him to prison. Since Lu Yi Ye didn’t manage to head to the Ministry of Recruitment for registration, his name wasn’t on the list.”
“Qian Wudang…”
“Fan Xiangyi…”
Since they were all Divine Ocean Realm Masters as well as Commanders within Bing Zhou Watch, they naturally knew who Commander Qian and Commander Fan were.
One of them was Commander of the Ministry of Laws while the other was the Commander of the Ministry of Orders. They held important positions within Bing Zhou Watch.
Did Lu Yi Ye have the audacity to offend the two of them? Or was something dubious going on there?
Of the 12 people, some fell into their thoughts while some were torn between tears and laughter.
The old woman knitted her brows together. She didn’t expect that to be what had happened, but certainly, she could see what was going on there.
Someone must have deliberately done that. Although Lu Ye seemed to be suffering in prison, it was a form of protection for him.
“What’s the punishment given by the Ministry of Laws?” the old woman asked grimly.
“Three whips and ten days in confinement,” the cultivator replied, and then added, “It’s the fifth day now.”
“It’s only a small mistake, so the punishment is probably too harsh. Get him out of jail and send him to the Ministry of Recruitment for registration,” the old woman ordered.
Although the punishment would be over for Lu Ye in five days, she couldn’t stay there for such a long time. Now that new sentries had been selected, she had to immediately bring them back to Heavenly Gate Canyon. As for Lu Ye, she had to take him with her as well.
“Err…” The cultivator was flustered and looked pleadingly at the other Divine Ocean Realm Masters. He didn’t have the power to do such a thing even though the old woman had given an order.
The old woman was the Commander of the Department of Recruitment in Heavenly Gate Canyon, whereas the prison was controlled by the Ministry of Laws. Hence, the old woman had no right to interfere in the prison’s affairs.
“Why make things difficult for him, Elder Yu?” the young man said and waved his hand at the cultivator.
Relieved, the cultivator hurriedly left the place. He didn’t want to get involved in the storm going on in the hall.
The old woman realised it was a ridiculous demand as well, so she didn’t stop the cultivator from leaving. Instead, she tapped on her Battlefield Imprint and sent some messages. Apparently, she wanted to make use of her connections to get Lu Ye out of prison.
Seeing that, the others didn’t stop her. They only shook their heads.
