Chapter 768: The connection once more
Chapter 768: The connection once more
Fifteen minutes later,
Julian was currently walking through the corridor that led to Olivia’s and the Duke’s private quarters.
Sera had mentioned earlier that his mother had suddenly summoned him.
After their last intense mana transfer session in his room, they had only exchanged a few brief contacts here and there. She had never approached him directly, and Julian had not gone out of his way to seek her out either.
He was quite interested in what was about to happen.
He reached the large, ornate door and knocked twice.
"Mother, it is me. Kraven."
Immediately, a soft voice answered from inside.
"Come in."
It seemed that she had been actively waiting for him.
Julian pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The Duke and Duchess’s private chamber was neat, clean, and massive. It was perhaps five times larger than Kraven’s own room, designed with unmistakable opulence.
A massive gold-plated bed dominated the center, easily large enough to allow multiple families to sleep comfortably. Beautiful paintings adorned the walls, depicting ancient battles and majestic landscapes. A grand chandelier hung from the center of the ceiling, its crystals catching the morning light and scattering it across the room like tiny stars.
Every piece of furniture, from the elegant tables and chairs to the tall mirrors and wardrobes, was gold-plated, signaling the wealth and power of the Astran family.
In front of one particular wardrobe stood Olivia.
She was looking inside it and occasionally flicked her fingers through the various dresses with a thoughtful expression. She wore a flowing red gown today, similar to the one from their last session, and her hair was free from its usual confines, cascading down her back in soft waves.
"Kraven, you are here," she said without turning around at first.
Julian bowed slightly and replied, "Yes, Mother. Sera said that you called for me."
Olivia turned from the wardrobe and faced him fully. Her expression was calm on the surface, but Julian could see the subtle tension in her shoulders and the faint flush that still lingered on her cheeks from their previous encounter. The red gown hugged her mature figure gracefully, accentuating the full curve of her breasts and the elegant line of her waist.
"You heard about the arrival of the envoy, right?" she asked, looking directly at his face.
"Yes, Mother," Julian replied. "Sera briefed me on this. I was just about to proceed to the main hall."
Olivia’s face flickered with concern at that. She stepped a little closer, her eyes scanning his features carefully, searching for any lingering signs of weakness or pain.
"Are you fully healed now?" she asked, her voice carrying genuine worry.
Julian smiled faintly, keeping his expression tired but composed.
"I am almost there," he said. "But whenever I try to fix that last part, I cannot reach it. It feels as if something is blocking me."
Olivia raised her brow in confusion.
"Last part?" she asked.
Julian nodded.
"Yes. It is the vessel near the core. Whenever I try to infuse it with my mana, it just rejects it."
He paused, as if thinking deeply about something, then added,
"It seems it can only be broken by your mana, Mother."
Olivia was caught off guard by that statement.
She had deliberately maintained distance from him after their last mana transfer session. She had privately hoped that he could heal on his own and she had even convinced herself that one session had been enough.
But now he was standing here, telling her that he still needed her help. That her mana was the only thing that could complete his recovery.
For a long moment, Olivia remained silent. Her hands tightened slightly at her sides as conflicting emotions warred inside her.
She had spent the last two days trying to bury those feelings, but her body remembered everything.
She looked at Julian’s face again. He still looked slightly pale, though much better than before. The concern for her son’s well-being slowly began to outweigh her personal discomfort... again.
"One more session..." she whispered, almost to herself.
She took a slow breath, trying to steady her racing heart. Her eyes met his, and for a brief second, something vulnerable flashed across her face.
"Very well," she said softly. "If that is what it takes for you to recover fully, then I will help you again. But Kraven... we must be careful this time. What happened last time... it went too far. I do not want to lose control like that again."
Even as she spoke those words, a faint tremble ran through her body. She knew how difficult it would be to maintain any boundaries once his hands were on her again. The mana transfer had a way of breaking down every wall she tried to build.
Julian nodded respectfully.
"I understand, Mother. I will be more careful. Thank you for doing this for me."
Olivia turned back toward the wardrobe for a moment, as if gathering her thoughts. She selected a lighter shawl and draped it over her shoulders, perhaps as a small attempt to add another layer between them. Then she gestured toward the large bed in the center of the room.
"Come," she said quietly. "Let us begin. The envoy can wait a little longer. Your health is more important."
She moved toward the bed and sat on the edge, turning her back to him as she had done before. Her shoulders were tense, her breathing slightly uneven. She was clearly nervous, but she did not refuse.
Julian approached slowly. He could see the internal struggle written across her body language. This session would push her even further. And he had no intention of holding back completely.
He placed his hands gently on her shoulders once more, feeling the warmth of her skin through the thin fabric of her gown.
"Mother," he said softly, "if it becomes too much again, tell me. I do not want to cause you discomfort."
Olivia gave a small nod, though they both knew the words were only half-true.
The room fell into a heavy, intimate silence as Julian began channeling his mana into her, preparing for the reverse flow. Olivia’s hands gripped the edge of the bed, her body already beginning to react to the familiar warmth spreading through her.
The connection between them was about to deepen once again.
