Volume Four has finally ended.
I didn't write an end-of-volume thought for Volume Three, so I'll make up for it in Volume Four.
This volume is a rather special one for Play God. Unlike the Aurora Domain and Red Dust Domain arcs, it doesn't take domain stories as the main thread, nor does it slightly carve out the atmosphere within a domain like the Wuji Domain. Chen Ling in this volume is mainly wandering around, without a fixed residence.
From leaving the Dusk Society, to the Integration Faction, then to the destruction of the Integration Faction, going to the South Sea Domain, being swept out the door by the South Sea Domain, disheartened, and returning to the Ghost Mockery Abyss... Chen Ling in this volume doesn't have the high spirits of the first three volumes, and it isn't that "satisfying".
Of course I know that a story that isn't satisfying enough might not be liked by everyone. Chen Ling's bumps and setbacks along this journey will definitely become the reason for some readers to drop the book. But after thinking about it repeatedly, I still decided to write it.
Play God is different from the previous two books "Slaying Gods" and "Replica Mirror". From the very beginning, Play God is a grand and solemn story. It will have many knives [tragedies/heartbreaks], many people will die. It looks like a tragedy, and Chen Ling is the person trying to rewrite this "tragedy".
From the past Red Kings to Chen Ling, what they do is try to find the possibility of turning everything around in a destined tragedy. They are great, solemn, and highly charismatic, and such a protagonist absolutely cannot have smooth sailing, killing gods when gods block the way and advancing triumphantly like a common satisfying web novel...
If such an invincible protagonist appeared in a worldview like Play God, it would only make people feel awkward, make the solemnity less solemn, and make the sacrifices of others seem weak and stupid. It would shatter the overall main tone of Play God.
Volume Four is a volume of Chen Ling's transformation. From a Dusk Society member to a Fusionist, to a thorn in the side misunderstood by the Human Domains, and finally to the Red King who completes his transformation and knows everything. He is no longer that weak and confused Chen Ling, no longer that "Six of Hearts" protected by many people. This time, he suffered grievances and no one could stand up for him. Only in such an environment can he truly grow, and ultimately become the Sixth Generation Red King who carries the entire Dusk Society.
Of course, now that Chen Ling's transformation is complete, Volume Five won't be so depressing...

Some people say that Volume Four doesn't have the atmospheric feel of the first three volumes. The reason is also very simple. Because Aurora and Red Dust were both writing the story of a domain, I spent a lot of ink and brush [effort/writing] to build the domain, portraying some more down-to-earth minor characters, writing their Spiritual Worlds, love, hate, and enmity, so that the domain can become three-dimensional.
But if the destruction of every subsequent domain was done in this way, then perhaps this book wouldn't be finished even with ten million words... and it would definitely be called "too padded".
As the story reaches its later stages, the speed of domains being destroyed accelerates. Coupled with the fact that Chen Ling is no longer situated within them as a "person in the city", the perspective naturally changes... At this time, the focus of the story has shifted from "domains" to the storyline itself.
According to Sanjiu's current expectations, Play God will probably end in six volumes, but it's also possible that Volume Six will be directly merged into Volume Five, making it a five-volume ending. Sanjiu doesn't have a detailed outline for this point, so it's still unclear.
But Sanjiu has to clarify, not having an outline doesn't mean writing blindly. Some main plotlines and major twists are engraved in Sanjiu's brain and won't change easily, let alone a situation of "writing whatever I dream of".
Volume Five, just like its name, is the story of Chen Ling destroying the world. Sanjiu can't give specific spoilers, I can only say everyone can look forward to it~
Up until now, Play God has been serialized for over two years. Continuous daily writing is a very mentally draining thing. It will empty out your inspiration and accumulation little by little. Therefore, the longer the serialization time, the more tiring the writing gets, and the emptier the brain becomes. So Sanjiu will occasionally ask for a leave of absence to rest and adjust my state.
It's not that Sanjiu is lazy and unwilling to write. Sometimes, even if I force myself to write, it will turn out poorly instead. I hope everyone can understand this. Perhaps there will be more leaves of absence to rest during Volume Five. Let me explain this to everyone here first. When my state is good, Sanjiu will naturally update more, like the past few days and today.
Additionally, after finishing Volume Four today, Sanjiu will also rest for two or three days to recover some inspiration, adjust my state, and organize the plot~
