Chapter 757 Side Story 01: Aftermath

Chapter 757 Side Story 01: Aftermath

In the aftermath of the colossal battle, Livania lay in ruins, a mere shadow of its former self. The once vibrant city now bore the scars of the conflict all over it.

From the smouldering remnants of buildings to the debris scattered across the roads, a heavy silence hung over the ruined terrain as people scrambled to help each other.

Similar scenes played out in other major cities across the world. Despite facing a few pockets of resistance, Vania and Nirvana were on the brink of victory.

They had won, but the war had taken a toll on the world, leaving destruction in its wake. Hundreds of ships had crashed on the planet, destroying cities and the lives of thousands of people.

But that wasn't all. Because of Kro'Han's sudden surge of power, the sea levels had risen as well, killing thousands more and wiping out entire countries.

Kro'Han's defeat didn't come without a severe cost, not just for humans but for the Xyrans as well. While Ashton and Astaroth were fighting Kro'Han on Earth, the Orions had struck Xyrans from behind, wiping out most of their fleet.

The Xyrans, sandwiched between Precursor ships and the Orions, stood no chance; soon after Kro'Han's defeat, the battle above the skies ended in Orion's victory after the Xyrans were forced to surrender.

It was a victory but a bitter one.

Cutting back to Livania, amidst the wreckage, Ashton lay unconscious, his body battered and broken. He had lost consciousness due to severe blood loss from his missing arm. Although he didn't have to sacrifice himself, his life was slowly slipping from his grasp.

At that time, Anna rushed towards him, panic etched on her face. Ava and Laihud followed closely behind. Everyone was busy searching for their loved ones in the mess, but most were looking for Ashton as they knew he would be in danger after fighting with Kro'Han.

"ASHTON!" Anna's cry cut through the air, her hands trembling as she reached out to him.

The sight of Ashton's disfigured form sent shivers down her spine. His hand was missing, and he was covered in blood with bruises spread on his body like tattoos.

While his chest was rhythmically rising and falling, anyone could sense Ashton's life was slipping from his grasp. The damage was too much for Ashton's self-preservation abilities to kick in, and none of them wanted him to go through resurrection all over again as they didn't know what the outcome would have been.

Most of them weren't even sure if Ashton could resurrect anymore now that the power of the Grim Reaper had disappeared along with Astaroth.

As Laihud rushed to heal his leader, Ava placed her hand on Anna's shoulder. "Anna, dear, we need to stay calm."

Ava was worried for her son more than anyone else, but she knew the importance of not losing her bearings like that. Unfortunately, Anna couldn't do the same.

It was the third time Anna had seen Ashton in such a feeble state, and with her being pregnant, her emotions were all over the place.

"He's... he's so pale, Mom," Anna stammered as she addressed Ava as a mom for the first time, her eyes welling with tears. "What if he..."

"He's a fighter, just like his father. Nothing will take him away from us," Ava cut her off. "And you, my dear, need to think about that little one inside you and calm down. Laihud is working his magic so that everything will be fine."

Anna's eyes widened as she clutched her stomach. "I... know. But I can't help it-"

Ava, holding Anna by the shoulders, spoke firmly. "Ashton wouldn't want you to worry like this. So be brave and wait for him to join us for celebrations, ok?"

"I'll do my best to stabilise him," Laihud said, wiping sweat off his face. "But we'd need to get him admitted for better care soon."

As Ashton's wounds were tended to, Rico and Vimur rushed towards them with a stretcher. Once Laihud was done sealing the wounds, the team carefully lifted Ashton and placed him on the stretcher. Still visibly shaken but not crying anymore, Anna walked alongside, gripping Ashton's hand tightly.

The medical team took charge at the hospital, rushing Ashton into emergency care. Anna, Ava and the rest of the Ghosts waited anxiously in the corridor as Laihud joined the team to help with the operation.

While the rest of the world celebrated their victory, the citizens of Livonia were busy praying to the gods to save Ashton. As they waited for an update, the minutes dragged on like hours.

The medical staff kept rushing in and out of the

Ava, trying to ease the tension, spoke softly to Anna. "He's in good hands now, dear. We have to wait and hope for the best."

Anna, her eyes fixed on the operation theatre's doors, nodded, but her worried look didn't change. "What if-"

"No 'what ifs,' Anna. Ashton is strong and has an entire family waiting for him," Ava interrupted, her voice as firm as a mama bear. "So wipe your tears and stay strong. If he got to know you were sad this entire time, he won't forgive me!"

"Ha... yeah, he tends to be overprotective of his family," Anna broke a smile, leaning on Ava's shoulder. "I just hope he leads a normal life now that it's all over."

"Of course," Ava replied. "I'll make him retire if necessary, but he will take a break as long as you want. That's my promise."

As they waited, Anna's thoughts turned to their unborn child. The weight of the recent events pressed on her, and Ava, sensing her daughter-in-law's turmoil, embraced her reassuringly.

Just then, the doors swung open, and Laihud and the rest of the team emerged. Anna's heart raced as she rushed forward, anticipation and fear mingling in her eyes.

"He's stable for now, but it will be a long road to recovery," Laihud informed them with a cheery expression, "But knowing him, he will recover faster than before. So no need to worry."
