Chapter 765 Side Stories 09: Wasted Efforts
Mornings on Euphoria were always the coldest. But that day felt especially cold.
Ashton had received the word about the Precursor ship heading towards him and was expected to reach Euphoria anytime. The guardians were already in position, brushing up the planet's defence system as Ashton needed all the help he could get.
The joint force of Xyrans and Orions was on their way to support, but Ashton knew they wouldn't make it in time. Nor did he want them there with him.
As much as it would hurt their sentiments, they were mere ants compared to him or the approaching threat. Ashton knew that and didn't want any trouble or distractions while dealing with a Precursor.
Ashton checked his armour and Thanatos one final time while waiting for the disaster to occur. Then, as if on queue, his earpiece rang, and he received the expected news.
"The ship is here, master," the Guardian reported.
"Give them a proper welcome then," Ashton replied, flexing his neck. "Show them how prepared we are to welcome the honoured guest."
Ashton focused his eyes and saw a faint silhouette of a spaceship headed his way. But a moment later, it turned into a ball of fire as the Guardians rained hell upon the vessel.
The force from the missiles altered the ship's path as it crashed and landed a bit away from Ashton. With that, the first step of the plan was complete.
Ashton instructed the Guardians to join him as he welcomed the guest.
"Don't let your guard down," Ashton reminded the guardians as they reached the crash site.
Upon one look, Ashton knew the ship was in no condition to be flown anywhere. Since he, too, had disassembled the ship and sent it back to Earth using the portal, the precursor entity was now trapped on Euphoria with no way out.
However, Ashton couldn't sense the entity's presence anywhere. Just then, there was a loud shriek in his earpiece, and Ashton pulled it out of his ears before destroying it.
Disgruntled, Ashton looked around to find the guardians were on the ground. The loud sound must have done something to them. But Ashton had no time to be surprised as the target appeared before him out of nowhere.
"So you're the one who defeated the mighty Kro'Han," the woman laughed, swaying her hips as she walked towards Ashton. "I'm disappointed in him."
"And who might you be?" Ashton asked, trying to buy time for the Guardians to reboot.
"Sil'na, a precursor like yourself. But you'd have guessed that much by now," she replied, untying her blue hair. "But unlike the others, I love hunting my own kind. A little side activity just for fun."
"So you're here for me?"
Sil'na scoffed and rolled her eyes, "You? Why would I be here for a half-backed potato? I came to kill Kro'Han, but he died before I got my hands on him."
"Well, that's too bad. So why don't you, let me think how to say it politely, oh right! Why don't you fuck off out of my galaxy?"
"Oh, you disrespectful child," Sil'na sighed, retrieving a blood-soaked machete from her side. "I was going to leave after playing with you a bit, but your parents didn't teach you manners. Guess I'll have to do it in their stead."
Sil'na lunged towards Ashton, who swung Thanatos with all his might. However, the lady appeared more agile than Ashton as she easily dodged his attacks.
'Damn, she's quick!' Adrian thought, narrowingly dodging her machete. 'No wonder she calls herself the huntress.'
Sil'na took a wild swing, but this time, Ashton grabbed her hand instead of dodging before unleashing Seraph's flames on her. Sil'na was engulfed in flames as Ashton jumped back to see the scene unfold in all its glory.
He expected some damage to her, but as Sil'na whisked the flames away, the only damage was on her clothes and nothing else.
"If you wanted me out of the clothes, you could have just said so..." Sil'na smirked, licking the tip of the machete.
"If you wanted new clothes, you could have just asked," Ashton replied, uninterested in the woman.
"Tsk, even my charm has no effect on you," Sil'na clicked her tongue, and a new set of clothes covered her body the next moment.
Ashton didn't bother telling her about Anna, but no woman could seduce him if he could turn down a succubus in heat.
It was Ashton's turn to go offensive. He swung Thantos, aiming for Sil'na's chest, but she blocked the strike with the edge of her blade.
"Tne out of ten for execution. But no grade for the failed attempt."
"Who said I failed?"
In a swift move, Ashton shifted the weight of the blade to the other end and swung it with all his might. Before Sil'na could react, the other end of the blade was embedded in her shoulder.
The woman was so arrogant that she hadn't even covered herself with her aura, thinking no weapon could touch her. Which was true... had it not been for the weapon imbued with the essence of death.
Angered by Ashton's trickery, Sil'na lost her cool and blindly slashed towards his throat.
Ashton swung Thanatos like a wheel, flicking away the machete out of her hands. Sil'na's eyes widened as the weapon slipped out of her hands, as if it had never happened before.
She tried getting another blade, but Ashton wasn't going to let that happen and kicked her to the ground before crushing her hands. Sil'na howled in pain, but there was no one there to help her.
"You wanted to kill Kro'Han?" Ashton mumbled, staring into her eyes. "He could devour dozens of you before even considering it a meal. Insects like you would never even register on his radar."
"Eat... shit..." Sil'na groaned. "You think I'm the only one? The other hunters-"
Before Sil'na could even finish what she was saying, Ashton swung the blade, severing her head.
"Yeah, yeah, let them come," Adrian replied, setting Sil'na's corpse on fire. "I'm sure they'll be eager to join you... Precursor entity, my ass. Can't believe I waste so much of my time for this shit?"
