Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Rumors
The next day, Shen Yin went to work. As soon as she arrived at the office, she saw a cup of hot soy milk and two meat buns on the table.
She pointed at the table in amazement. “Who brought me breakfast?”
“Not us.” Zheng Ling poked her head out playfully and winked mischievously. “It’s the handsome guy from Team Three!”
“Meng Heng?” Shen Yin sat down thoughtfully and looked at the bun, unable to eat.
Nian Nian prepared breakfast for her every morning, and now she really could not finish these buns.
However, she had always been a frugal person. It would be a pity to throw these away for nothing.
She casually pushed the food forward and asked generously, “Who hasn’t eaten? Take it. I’ve already eaten.”
“No, no.” Zheng Ling waved her hand as if to avoid arousing suspicion. “Boss, I’ve eaten.”
Wang Sheng walked over with a smile. “Boss, he means it kindly after all. At least have some.”
“Yes, yes.” Han Xu, who had always been silent, nodded in agreement.
Shen Yin raised her eyebrows and looked at Han Xu. “Are you close to Meng Heng?”
“Boss, you still don’t know, right? Meng Heng and Han Xu are alumni of the Police Academy. The two of them came to our bureau together.”
“I see.” Shen Yin’s head ached as she looked at the heap of breakfast that she could not get rid off. She had no choice but to carry it to Team Three.
Zou Sheng was playing games in his office. He glanced at the door during a break. When he saw Shen Yin, he quickly nudged Meng Heng, who was engrossed in a book.
“Sister is here.” Meng Heng saw the breakfast in her hand and asked in confusion, “Don’t you like it?”
“It’s not that I don’t like it. I ate this morning.” Shen Yin placed breakfast on the long table in the middle of the room. “If any of you haven’t eaten, then you can have this. I can’t eat anymore.”
“Oh…” Meng Heng smiled and said, “Then just leave it there. Captain might not have eaten yet.”
“Okay.” Shen Yin nodded. Before she left, she looked back at Meng Heng with a complicated expression.
As she expected, Meng Heng was staring at her back and watching her leave.
That morning, Shen Yin received a case. Someone had committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a mall. A forensic pathologist was needed to investigate the scene.
Zheng Ling and Han Xu should have gone, but when Shen Yin saw Meng Heng nonchalantly walking by the entrance of the forensic office countless times that morning, she volunteered to go to the scene.
At that moment, the executives of Prosperity Mall were holding an emergency meeting.
The plump manager, He Sheng, wiped the sweat from his brow. He was bowing in apology to the man at the head of the table.
“President Lian, this incident was caused by a lapse in our security. To think that the person managed to get to the rooftop. Don’t worry, we will definitely increase the surveillance. Such a thing will never happen again!”
“Little Jing.” Lian Jing’s aunt, Lian’e, sat awkwardly at the side. “This matter is indeed an oversight on our part, but He Sheng is my man. I will definitely teach him a lesson.”
Lian Jing looked over unhappily. “Auntie, this matter has caused the Lian family’s shares to fall and we’ve lost millions. There are dozens of surveillance cameras in the mall, and dozens of security guards. Yet, someone managed to pry open the lock to the roof, climb onto it, and jump down. This matter cannot be resolved with just a few reprimands.”
He looked lazily at the manager. “He Sheng, you know what to do about the media.”
“Yes, yes, yes.” He Sheng could barely straighten up. He cursed the suicide victim a thousand times in his mind.
Why couldn’t he chose to choose somewhere else to die. Why did he have to choose the mall He Sheng was in charge of!
He was deliberately causing trouble for others!
Lian’e could not take it anymore. Although Prosperity Mall belonged to the Lian family, she was the one who controlled it. Now, Lian Jing was reprimanding her subordinates in front of her. It was equivalent to humiliating her in public and showing everyone that he was the real heir of the Lian family.
Lian Jing stood up and glanced at the rest of the board. “How should we recover our losses after this? Discuss it with Auntie. I want to see you come up with countermeasures as quickly as possible and stop the public from discussing the matter.”
Who would dare to disagree? They hurriedly stood up and guaranteed they would do it as they saw him off.
“He’s afraid of gossip? He himself is very intimate with the starlets.” Lian’e’s secretary could not stand it anymore, and muttered softly.
“What starlet?” Lian’e asked her with a frown. The secretary told her what the media had reported last night.
