I Became the Best Forensic Doctor After My Betrayal

Chapter 87 Mishap

87 Mishap

When everything was quiet again, Shen Yin turned on her cell phone and rubbed her fingers repeatedly over Lian Jing’s chat interface. She typed some questions in the chat box but deleted them all.

Shen Yin threw her phone beside the pillow and let out a long sigh. She angrily decided to forget about this fickle man.

The next morning, Shen Yin walked out of the room with a smile. When she saw Shen Nian waiting downstairs, she even stroked his hair gently.

Shen Nian swallowed back the comforting words that were at the tip of his tongue.

He stopped worrying when he saw that her mother was beaming with genuine joy.

She went out happily. Even Grandpa Lian did not notice anything amiss about her, but the moment she got into the car, her tense shoulders relaxed.

She was still very upset…

Shen Yin scolded herself for being useless. It was better if Lian Jing left! It would be best if he never came back! That way, she could bring Nian Nian back and not have to stay in the Lian residence anymore!

She angrily stepped on the accelerator, but before she reached the police station, her cell phone suddenly rang.

She quickly parked the car by the roadside and hurriedly took her phone from her bag. Then, she saw Captain Wu’s name.

“Dr. Shen, we found Lin Hui’s tracks in an old abandoned building to the south of the city, but by the time Xiao Meng arrived, it was empty.”

“Lin Hui escaped?” Shen Yin frowned. From the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a figure flash past the rear view mirror. The sensation of being followed for the past few days resurfaced.

She gripped her cell phone tightly and got out of the car. She looked up and down the alley where the figure had briefly appeared.

Wu Zheng sighed over the phone. “I’m afraid so. Lin Hui is very good at losing anyone who is trailing her. We’ve checked a few surveillance cameras around the old building, but we found no sign of her. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Shen Yin walked to the entrance of the alley and studied its layout to see if there were any hiding places. She said to Wu Zheng, “I don’t think Lin Hui is alone. Remember the knife we found at her house? Why would she cut herself and not bandage her wound?”

“Are you saying that Lin Hui might have been coerced?” Wu Zheng nodded. “We can’t rule out that possibility.”

Zou Sheng’s voice came over the line. “Captain Wu, come and take a look. I saw a suspicious man in the surveillance footage of the supermarket near Lin Hui’s house.”

“Alright, I’m on my way.” Wu Zheng said apologetically to Shen Yin on the phone, “We’ll discuss it in detail when you reach the police station later. I’m making you late for work.”

“It’s alright. Wait for me. I’ll be there soon.” Shen Yin hung up and was about to walk towards the car. But before she could turn around, a hand suddenly reached out from behind her, and a hand holding a knockout drug tightly covered her mouth and nose.

Shen Yin looked down and saw a man’s rough hand covered with chilblains.

She grew alert. She knew that what she had sensed for so many days was not an illusion, but she did not have time to think further. She bent her elbow and hit the stomach of the person behind her hard.

That person grunted and grabbed her hand tightly. He was so strong that the ring that Lian Jing gave her bit into her flesh. The other hand that was covering her mouth and nose pressed down even harder. The drug took effect. Shen Yin finally lost the strength to resist and slumped on the man’s shoulder.

The man sneered and looked at Shen Yin’s beautiful face evilly. He pulled her into a secluded alley.

At ten o’clock in the morning, the Team Three’s office was replaying the surveillance video that only captured a back view of the suspect. According to the footage, this man in black frequently appeared near Lin Hui’s house. His gaze was always directed towards Lin Hui’s house, so they suspected that he was following Lin Hui.

Wu Zheng looked at the time on his cell phone and asked curiously, “Why isn’t Dr. Shen here yet?”

“I’ll go take a look.” Meng Heng stood up and was about to go to the forensics office to look for her when Zheng Ling rushed in.

When she saw them, Zheng Ling quickly scanned the office and suddenly froze at the doorway. “My boss isn’t here?”

“Shen Yin? Isn’t she at the forensics office?” Zou Sheng frowned and looked at her in confusion. “We were about to go to your office to look for her.”

“No.” Zheng Ling explained anxiously, “Boss has never been late. Also, no one picked up when I called her.”
