Chapter 1030, The Wild Fox Tribe’s Losses
Chapter 1030, The Wild Fox Tribe’s Losses

Today marked the final day of the rainy season, and the accumulated water in the forest had begun to slowly recede. No longer pooling into vast waterlogged land, the dense primitive forest concealed a group pressing steadily forward towards their destination.
They were members of the Wild Fox Tribe, a party of Totem Warriors led by Ye Tu as their leader.
The Totem Warriors numbered four in total, with Huang Ji among them.
Their destination was the Flame Dragon Tribe.
Ye Tu had spoken with Da Dong, their Chieftain, about this matter. After weighing the pros and cons, Da Dong concluded that what had been said was entirely reasonable.
After all, they had never visited the Flame Dragon Tribe before. If the Tribe truly lived up to its reputation, making the journey once would not be a loss.
Moreover, travelling during the rainy season genuinely saved considerable time, even if the dangers were substantial. But for the sake of the Tribe’s development, a degree of danger was tolerable.
And so Ye Tu led the Totem Warriors out. He was the same man who had previously commanded the Wild Fox Tribe’s trading parties to other Tribes.
“How much longer until we reach the Flame Dragon Tribe? I feel like the rain is about to stop soon.”
Ye Tu lifted his gaze to the rain falling through the gaps between the dense canopy above. “It feels like we should be close. You can tell from the surroundings that people live nearby.”
As he advanced, he had been deliberately observing the environment around them. Beyond watching for Ferocious Beasts, he wanted to gauge whether people inhabited the area.
“We should arrive tomorrow, I’d think. We’ve already been travelling for several days.” Huang Ji narrowed his eyes to peer ahead.
Due to the relentless rain, visibility was genuinely terrible. At most, one could make out the environment within a single metre. Not much more than that.
“We have already lost four Totem Warriors. From here on, you must be careful. More careful than we have ever been.” Ye Tu urged them solemnly.
His expression now was one of deep grief. Those four fallen Totem Warriors had been formidable, and their loss was quite big to the Wild Fox Tribe.
Ye Tu also recalled the promise he had made to the Chieftain before leaving, that he would protect his comrades, that not a single Warrior would be lost.
“Yes.” The remaining Totem Warriors understood without needing to be told, and not one of them dared to lower their guard.
*Step step step…*
*Splash splash splash…*
*Rustle rustle rustle…*
The rhythmic tread of Warriors pressing forward, the unceasing percussion of falling rain, the constant whisper of bodies brushing through leaves. These sounds layered together and produced an inexplicable tension. This atmosphere plunged to a freezing point in an instant.
The Warriors were still immersed in the grief of losing their companions while simultaneously remaining vigilant against the surrounding environment. They truly could not afford carelessness now. They had genuinely come to understand the rainy season’s terror firsthand.
“As long as we can bring good news back this time, the Chieftain will forgive us for our failings.” Ye Tu offered what comfort he could.
He could sense the grief within his Warriors, could feel the anxiety gnawing at them. It was worth noting that if Warriors died during the execution of a mission, the surviving Warriors would blame themselves. There was no other reason for it than they had failed to work as a team, failed to protect their comrades.
“Who knows whether the Flame Dragon Tribe is truly as good as they say. If it turns out to be no different from any other Tribe, then their sacrifice will have been entirely pointless.” One Totem Warrior’s voice carried unmistakable dejection. He held not a single scrap of hope for the Flame Dragon Tribe they were approaching.
In his view, how extraordinary could any Tribe really be? At most, it might differ somewhat from others, but truly remarkable? How was that even possible?
“That’s true. If the Flame Dragon Tribe genuinely isn’t worth it, we would have truly let down the Warriors who died.” Another Totem Warrior echoed the sentiment.
“How can anything good come from having no hope at all? You’re already this negative before we’ve even reached the Flame Dragon Tribe. Does that mean we should just turn back?” Huang Ji had finally heard enough.
He had been among those deliberating whether to travel to the Flame Dragon Tribe. The loss of those Totem Warriors was never something he had wanted. Hearing everyone grumble like this left him deeply uncomfortable, burdened by a persistent sense of owing something to the dead.
And so, he wanted to rally everyone. This journey had to mean something.
“I think Ah Ji is right. Nothing spreads as rumour without some foundation. You’ve all heard the stories about the Flame Dragon Tribe. However bad or good it might be, it can’t possibly be the same as every other Tribe out there!”
Ye Tu had no wish to see morale collapse before they even reached the Flame Dragon Tribe. He had to consolidate everyone’s resolve.
“Yes.” The remaining Warriors nodded in assent.
Ye Tu exhaled a long, helpless sigh. He could only hope the Flame Dragon Tribe truly was something worth seeing. Otherwise, there would simply be no way to hold everyone together. On the journey back to the Wild Fox Tribe, the lack of cohesion could lead to disaster.
“Look. There’s something up ahead. Is that a stone wall?” Huang Ji had kept his eyes narrowed, scanning the distance.
His eyesight was among the finest of all the Warriors, which was why he had consistently taken the lead at the front.
Between the unrelenting rain reducing visibility and the density of the primitive forest, judging the path ahead had become nearly impossible. In such conditions, what they desperately needed was someone with a strong sense of direction and exceptional vision to guide them forward.
*Step step step…*
Upon hearing Huang Ji’s words, Ye Tu and the others accelerated at once, pressing towards the stone wall.
Several minutes later, the group arrived before it and discovered it was not particularly tall. And yet it was remarkably uniform, arranged with visible regularity, bearing absolutely no resemblance to anything formed naturally.
“Was this stacked by Human hands? It looks amazing.” Huang Ji reached out to examine the wall.
He found that the stones were nothing like the irregular shapes of natural rock. Everything about it suggested deliberate craftsmanship.
“It isn’t that tall, but the length is truly vast. You can’t see either ends.” Ye Tu had also observed as much.
“Does anyone else feel like this resembles a wooden wall? This must be made by someone.” One Totem Warrior remarked suddenly.
“Could this already be the Flame Dragon Tribe? Is this how they’ve protected their territory?” Another Totem Warrior speculated.
“Possible. Though why are these stones so perfectly shaped? And how are they bonded together so firmly?” Huang Ji pressed against the wall with force and found it utterly immovable.
He had initially assumed the stones had been deliberately shaped and then stacked one by one. But after applying real force, he discovered they were sealed seamlessly together.
“Amazing.” Ye Tu murmured, unable to suppress his astonishment.
The Warriors paid no mind to the rain continuing to fall upon them. Every gaze was fixed upon that stone wall.
