Chapter 1123, Reserves of Power
Chapter 1123, Reserves of Power

Yan Jiao had been occupied with Tribe matters, yet he found himself standing inside the Yong’an Building at that very moment.
The instant Yan Hua had thought of a suitable candidate, she had dashed off to fetch him at once.
She recalled that upon her return, she had asked her Father to attend to the Six Eyed Red Birds.
“Shaman, I heard you wished to see me?” Yan Jiao stood with his spine perfectly straight.
He had scarcely known a quiet moment of late. Every single day brought with it a mountain of things to be done, and every single day that mountain somehow grew taller.
“This Ferocious Beast Crystal appears to have chosen you.” Su Bai said, his tone unhurried.
And indeed it had. The moment Yan Jiao stepped through the door of the Yong’an Building, the Ferocious Beast Crystal had begun to emit light.
The pale blue Ferocious Beast Crystal was now radiating that light outward without pause, and it was shifting slowly across Su Bai’s open palm.
All of this had begun the very instant Yan Jiao walked in. The scene was precisely as it had been when the Ferocious Beast Crystal had once chosen Su Bai himself.
It was unmistakable. This particular crystal had its own intention.
“Ah? What Ferocious Beast Crystal?” Yan Jiao had no idea what was happening. He had walked in and heard those words, and now his mind was a fog.
“Father, this is the Ferocious Beast Crystal I obtained when dealing with a Ferocious Beast. It has chosen you as its Master.” Yan Hua’s explanation was direct and without ceremony.
Though, to be fair, anyone who had walked into that room at that moment would have been equally bewildered.
“Am I to possess a Ferocious Beast Crystal just as you and the Shaman do?” Yan Jiao’s voice carried a tremor of excitement.
He knew well enough that Su Bai carried a Ferocious Beast Crystal within him, and he could feel the Shaman’s power for himself. A Ferocious Beast Crystal was proof of one’s strength being multiplied. Beyond bolstering one’s raw power, it could accelerate a breakthrough.
Yan Jiao had watched his own Daughter break through to become a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior. Naturally, he yearned to break through himself and become a Late-Stage Totem Warrior.
And there was more to it than simple desire. As Chieftain of this Tribe, he ought to be the first in the Flame Dragon Tribe to make that breakthrough. The reason was plain enough: to inspire the others. Though, in truth, a small and honest part of him admitted it was also a matter of pride.
He was the Chieftain of the Flame Dragon Tribe, after all. If someone else reached the Late-Stage before him, the loss of face would be difficult to bear.
And so, he had thrown himself into rigorous training these past weeks, all in pursuit of an earlier breakthrough.
Yan Jiao understood the situation clearly. There was no shortage of capable fighters within the Flame Dragon Tribe, and Sha Hong was foremost among them. She had already been a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior before Yan Jiao, which meant she had advanced ahead of him.
Barring some unforeseen turn of events, the Tribe’s first Late-Stage Totem Warrior would most likely be Sha Hong.
Yan Jiao had largely made peace with that outcome, quietly counselling himself not to place too much weight on the matter.
And then, without warning, a Ferocious Beast Crystal had appeared before him, and it had chosen him.
The Chieftain felt that ember of ambition reignite inside of him, and that was the source of the barely contained excitement now written across his face.
“That is correct. A Ferocious Beast Crystal must choose its Master of its own accord to be of any use. Forcing it to enter into a body would only cause it to reject, and the result would be a severe weakening of one’s strength.”
Su Bai gave a calm nod and said. “Since this Ferocious Beast Crystal has chosen you, and since this crystal came from Ah’Hua, it is naturally yours to keep.”
“Thank you, Shaman. It seems I owe this entirely to my Daughter,” Yan Jiao said, and a rich, open laugh broke from him.
“Prepare yourself,” Su Bai said, picking up the Ferocious Beast Crystal and walking over.
Yan Jiao straightened immediately. The tension in his expression was plain to read. He held his body rigid and completely still, his red eyes fixed unblinkingly on the Ferocious Beast Crystal.
Su Bai extended his hand toward Yan Jiao’s chest, and the light emanating from the Ferocious Beast Crystal blazed brighter still.
With a surge of intense radiance, the Ferocious Beast Crystal rose slowly into the air and drifted toward Yan Jiao’s chest.
Yan Hua stood at the side, holding her breath as she watched, her heart quietly pleading that nothing would go wrong.
Yan Jiao was the same, his gaze locked on the arc of the crystal’s movement, too absorbed to spare a single thought for anything else.
The Ferocious Beast Crystal transferred itself into the Chieftain’s body in an instant, sliding in as smoothly as though it had always belonged there.
The pale blue light vanished the moment it entered him, and Yan Jiao felt a sudden and tremendous surge of vitality.
His eyes went wide. The red traces of sleepless nights that had threaded through them were gone entirely.
There was a lightness to Yan Jiao’s expression now, and that was clearly the Ferocious Beast Crystal’s doing.
He held out his hand and examined it with great care. “Shaman, does this mean it was a success?”
“Indeed. Do you feel it? Stamina brimming, as though even several days of hard work would cost you nothing?” Su Bai asked.
“Yes, Shaman. Right now, I feel as though I could take on several Ferocious Beasts at once. Energy feels like it is spilling out of me.” Yan Jiao’s voice had grown more animated still.
“It seems this Ferocious Beast Crystal has settled well within you. If you continue training at your current pace, a breakthrough should come to you quickly,” Su Bai said, his tone as measured as ever.
“Understood. I will train hard. I will not disappoint you, Shaman.” Resolve shone from the corner of Yan Jiao’s eyes.
He resolved to use every idle moment in the coming days for dedicated training. He would advance to the Late-Stage within the shortest possible time.
Once a Tribe counted a Late-Stage Totem Warrior among its ranks, other Tribes would think twice before daring to cause trouble.
“Select a number of your strongest fighters from within the Tribe and have them begin hunting Ferocious Beasts. We need to accumulate a large supply of Ferocious Beast Crystals.” Su Bai instructed.
The reason he had once moved away from hunting in the Hunting Ground was that the Flame Dragon Tribe no longer needed to risk life and limb hoarding food. Between the Central Market and their own fields, the Tribe had more than enough to eat.
But now that the existence of Ferocious Beast Crystals was known to him, hunting had to begin anew.
Ferocious Beast Crystals were invaluable to Totem Warriors. Beyond bolstering their overall strength, they provided the means for a breakthrough.
Only by making the Tribe’s Totem Warriors stronger would other Tribes be deterred from encroaching on their interests.
“Understood. I will select a group at once. With so many Six Eyed Red Birds and Grey Feathered Giant Birds in the Tribe now, we need not fear venturing to more distant territories,” Yan Jiao said with a nod.
“Come to me if you need Shaman Bone Tablets, and make sure you are fully equipped,” Su Bai reminded him.
“Understood.” Yan Jiao turned and went to make his preparations.
“I hope we can build a large enough reserve before the Dark Scorpion Tribe arrives,” Su Bai said quietly to himself.
