Chapter 654, Inexplicable Confidence
Chapter 654, Inexplicable Confidence
Translator: Silavin
Su Bai sat in his position, holding a quill pen and contemplating for quite some time.
He had risen rather early today, completing his training and having a simple breakfast before arriving at his position.
Today’s matters to handle concerned the other Tribes, as their representatives would arrive in just a few days.
He had to prepare proper countermeasures, as people of this era were not particularly easy to deal with.
Fighting and brawls could break out at any moment, though Su Bai was not particularly concerned about that.
What he cared about was ensuring they did not damage his goods. Beyond that, they could do whatever they pleased.
“First thing when they enter, they must put down their deadly weapons…” Su Bai muttered to himself.
After this self-directed comment, he recorded it on paper, finding that he had grown quite fond of using the quill pen.
“Arrange two teams at the Tribe entrance on guard duty to conduct inspections,” Su Bai continued writing with his head down.
His thinking was that entering the Tribe was acceptable, but certain weapons had to be secured beforehand.
This would prevent incidents from brewing once they were inside the Tribe. Bare-fisted conflicts were manageable enough. But once two people picked up weapons and started fighting, it would not end as simply as bruises and black eyes.
“Everyone entering must register which Tribe they’re from, so if anything happens, we can track them down…”
His quill pen never stopped moving, continuously gliding across the paper.
The sound of quill against paper echoed throughout the living room as Yu Ying watched curiously from the side.
She brushed her pink hair aside and stood up to ask. “Shaman, what are you doing?”
She was simply curious, watching the Shaman from the moment he had finished breakfast, constantly there working, occasionally muttering to himself, then burying his head to continue writing with such a serious demeanour.
“I’m arranging matters for when the other Tribes visit our Tribe in a few days.” Su Bai said without lifting his head.
Just having thought of something, he raised his quill pen to write furiously, fearing he might miss this spark of inspiration.
“Aren’t the other Tribes still several days away?” Yu Ying asked, tilting her head in confusion.
“We need to prepare in advance, so the Tribe’s people know what to do,” Su Bai lifted his head slightly.
“Shaman, what should we do when the other Tribes arrive?” Yu Ying swished her pink fox tail.
Su Bai set down his quill pen and picked up his tea cup, saying. “We don’t need to do much of anything. Just watch.”
“Eh?” Yu Ying was now rather bewildered, as what she’d just heard didn’t seem to match. “Weren’t you just preparing for the other Tribes’ arrival?”
Yu Ying cupped her round face in both hands, resting her elbows on the table and crouching down. She always enjoyed doing this, quietly watching the Shaman whenever there was not much happening.
In the past she would not have dared. When she had first become a Shaman Priestess, such actions would have been absolutely unthinkable.
No, forget about approaching the Shaman like this, she would not have dared speak a single word, terrified her voice might be too loud.
“We need to handle our own protective measures properly. We can’t be too passive.” Su Bai explained softly.
Seeing Yu Ying’s adorable appearance, he could barely resist the urge to pinch her round little cheeks.
“Does the Shaman mean we should keep watch over them?” Yu Ying guessed innocently.
“Something like that. People from other Tribes might not necessarily obey our Tribe’s rules. I’m worried about troublemakers,” Su Bai suddenly became serious.
He knew there would be some Tribes with natural superiority complexes, always feeling other Tribes could not compare to them.
Such people were often the most likely to cause conflicts and create trouble.
Today’s arrangements targeted precisely these individuals. They could not be allowed to become too arrogant.
“I understand. Since they’re coming to our Tribe, they must follow our arrangements,” Yu Ying declared with inexplicable confidence.
Perhaps it was because the Tribe was growing increasingly powerful, or perhaps because she trusted the Shaman so much. In any case, her confidence was as rock solid as diamond.
“Ha ha ha, you’re absolutely right.” Su Bai was amused by Yu Ying’s serious expression.
He noticed her transformation. Her previous timid and cowering demeanour had completely vanished.
“Shaman, is there anything I can help with?” Yu Ying asked enthusiastically.
Yu Ying also wanted to contribute to the Tribe’s development, making her daily consumption of meat feel more justified.
She felt she had been eating far too much meat lately, and such high-quality meat at that. It was almost unbelievable.
The better it got, the more guilty she felt, thinking she had not invested much labour yet could eat such excellent meat.
“In a moment, just take what I’ve written to the Chieftain and repeat it to him.” Su Bai said casually.
He was not unaware of Yu Ying’s thoughts, though there was not much he could do to change it immediately.
These things had to happen gradually. She needed to understand that being a Shaman Priestess made her different from the rest.
“Alright,” Yu Ying agreed without hesitation.
“Listen carefully. I’ll explain it to you first,” Su Bai picked up the paper he’d written.
Yu Ying tidied her hair, stood up straight, and nodded. “Okay, I’m ready.”
“Have the Chieftain arrange some Warriors, as many as possible, and station all these Warriors at the Tribe entrance.”
Su Bai looked at the writing on the paper and continued. “Set up barriers at the Tribe entrance so people entering our Tribe must submit to an inspection.”
“Shaman, what’s the purpose of this?” Yu Ying asked curiously.
She was thinking that since she had to relay the message, she should ask about anything unclear.
“To remove weapons from them. We’ll help them store these safely and return them when they leave.” Su Bai explained.
Yu Ying’s mind raced as she worried. “Shaman, all these other Tribes are visiting our Tribe for the first time. I’m afraid they won’t be willing.”
Yu Ying felt the other Tribes’ people might simply leave because of this, meaning no one would trade for the goods inside the Tribe. After all, each Tribe had its own character, and they certainly would not indulge such treatment.
“Don’t worry, I’ve thought of a solution for this. We just need to set up stalls at the entrance,” Su Bai smiled.
He had already considered this point and understood that people would not accept inspection without reason. Especially having their weapons confiscated. Out of fear, they’d be even more unwilling.
“Didn’t the Shaman say before that goods would all be traded at the Central Market?” Yu Ying twitched her pink fox ears.
“You’re right, which is why the entrance stalls have nothing to do with us.” Su Bai smiled faintly.
Yu Ying’s mind worked rapidly, and suddenly she understood completely. “Does the Shaman mean having our people pretend to set up stalls, as if they were of other Tribes, at the entrance?”
“Exactly. We’ll price the goods slightly higher. When they see such excellent merchandise, they’ll agree to the inspection.” Su Bai’s lips curved upward slightly.
“What a brilliant idea!” Yu Ying covered her mouth and laughed softly.
