Chapter 925, There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch

Half an hour later, Su Bai and the others had all returned to the Flame Dragon Tribe.
Ban Ye felt thoroughly shocked before even entering the Flame Dragon Tribe. This was a Tribe unlike any he had ever encountered.
To put it more precisely, he had never seen such an exceptional Tribe before.
While the wooden wall surrounding the Tribe’s perimeter did not differ significantly from those other Tribes, the external planning was remarkably sophisticated. The impact became overwhelming upon entry.
“Is… is this the Flame Dragon Tribe?” Ban Ye’s astonishment had reached unprecedented levels.
He had anticipated the Flame Dragon Tribe would be decent, but never imagined it would be this extraordinary.
“That’s right. This is our Tribe. You’ll have the next few days to experience it properly.” Yan Jiao spoke with measured detachment.
His impression of this individual remained lukewarm, particularly given the conditions proposed earlier.
Even considering the man’s considerable strength, when compared to the current Warriors of the Flame Dragon Tribe…
Ban Ye’s capabilities ranked highly, but Yan Jiao harboured little fondness for those whose loyalty did not lay in the Flame Dragon Tribe.
“Has this Tribe always been like this? Why is it so different from other Tribes?” Ban Ye kept blinking, continuing with his enquiry. “What I mean is, this Tribe appears fundamentally different. Nothing like other Tribes.”
Several Tribes had offered to accept him, so he had naturally observed numerous Tribes. Yet all those Tribes followed similar patterns.
Either the wooden dwellings were arranged in chaotic disarray, or the pathways consisted entirely of muddy earth roads.
Beyond being appallingly waterlogged, those Tribes would always have this odour to them.
That distinctive combination of acidic sweat stench and excrement’s foul reek mixed together made anyone who caught it involuntarily wrinkle their nose.
Additionally, there was everyone’s general demeanour, they all appeared to be suffering terribly.
Everyone constantly worried about their next meal, or the Tribe’s inhabitants seemed utterly lifeless.
Yet none of these phenomena existed within the Flame Dragon Tribe. Quite the opposite, in fact. Everything here was completely different.
All the structures were arranged in orderly fashion, and the main thoroughfares were remarkably flat and spacious. Most importantly, the Flame Dragon Tribe lacked those offensive odours. Instead, there lingered a subtle fragrance of food combined with the scent of fresh flowers.
Moreover, the Tribe’s inhabitants radiated expressions of contentment, something that seemed absolutely impossible to believe.
“This Tribe isn’t that different from others previously, but under the Shaman’s leadership, the Flame Dragon Tribe has developed to this level.” Yan Jiao’s lips curved upwards slightly.
He had anticipated these questions, just as he had expected such a shocked expression.
“I see. So, it’s like that scene in the forest earlier?” Ban Ye found it simultaneously astonishing yet somehow reasonable.
The astonishment came from achieving such remarkable improvements to a Tribe. The reasonability stemmed from having witnessed Su Bai’s capabilities in the forest. Given such abilities, achieving this level of development seemed within expectations.
“This wasn’t accomplished overnight. It’s all thanks to the Shaman’s excellent leadership. Otherwise, our Flame Dragon Tribe wouldn’t differ much from other Tribes.” Yan Jiao immediately reverted to seriousness.
“I understand. What would you have me do next?” Ban Ye enquired.
He understood that there was no such thing as a free lunch. Having been accepted by the Flame Dragon Tribe meant certain contributions were required.
“Since you’re a Totem Warrior, joining the Flame Dragon Tribe means joining with the other Totem Warriors to protect our Tribe.”
Yan Jiao crossed his arms over his chest, continuing to instruct. “But you should be quite clear about what comes next.”
“I understand. Whatever tasks you assign, I’ll have no complaints. As long as I can remain in the Flame Dragon Tribe for a period.” Ban Ye nodded without hesitation. After all, he was joining belatedly; distrust from the Flame Dragon Tribe was perfectly normal.
However, before that, he genuinely wanted to discover what other intriguing aspects the Flame Dragon Tribe possessed. At the very least, everything he had observed so far had already filled him with curiosity, strengthening his desire to remain and continue observing.
For the immediate future, securing food and accommodation would suffice.
“Since you understand, that saves me a ton of time.” Yan Jiao nodded with satisfaction, continuing: “I’ll have someone show you around the Tribe first.”
He summoned Mai Mao, then departed to handle other matters.
“Welcome to the Flame Dragon Tribe. Your choice will be proven to be the best one you’ve made in your life.” Mai Mao spoke with absolute confidence.
Since awakening as a Totem Warrior, his entire personality has undergone a huge transformation.
Though truthfully, what fundamentally altered his character probably began the moment his Father suffered injury in the forest.
Without Su Bai’s treatment, his Father would likely have died directly in the wilderness.
From that point onwards, he had been determined to grow stronger, powerful enough to protect his Father and the Tribe.
The true catalyst came when he awakened as a Totem Warrior, that was when his efforts gained a direction.
“Could you tell me more about the Flame Dragon Tribe’s history?” Ban Ye asked curiously.
He had committed rather hastily, joining the Flame Dragon Tribe almost unconsciously. Initially, he had only wanted to observe the situation from the periphery. Who knew he would blink and find himself here.
Admittedly, he had planned that if he truly could not locate any Wanderer Tribe before the rainy season, he would simply join some random Tribe.
But the rainy season was still approximately ten days away. He had never anticipated he would join a Tribe today.
Moreover, it was a Tribe he had been seriously observing. Fate could be rather strange.
“The Flame Dragon Tribe previously…” Mai Mao patiently explained the Tribe’s history.
Naturally, he knew what should and should not be disclosed. Everything he told the newcomer consisted of information the man deserved to know.
Moreover, nothing he described contained exaggeration. It was all entirely factual.
Ban Ye listened in stunned fascination, thoroughly captivated by these accounts. The stories seemed extraordinarily dramatic.
Yet these narratives held tremendous appeal for him. In his decade-plus of life, he had never heard such fascinating tales.
“What!? Did all this truly happen? Did the Shaman genuinely lead the Tribe’s development to this extent?” Ban Ye remained somewhat incredulous.
Of course, his enquiry was phrased diplomatically, without expressing outright disbelief.
“I don’t lie. Regardless of whom you ask in the Tribe, they’ll all tell you the same thing.” Mai Mao showed no concern whether the others believed him.
Anyone joining the Flame Dragon Tribe would eventually believe these accounts.
“Then I understand. Take me to the training grounds.” Ban Ye’s mind still harboured doubts.
