Chapter 383 - 326: Heavy Rain
Chapter 383: Chapter 326: Heavy Rain
An Jian wouldn’t rush anyone, but he felt having a partner was really troublesome.
Not to mention the sticky conversations, but after marriage, they’d take a share of his salary—any one of these reasons was enough to keep him at a respectful distance.
After hanging up the phone, the rain was pouring down even harder than before, but Jiang Mingyue’s mood was great, completely unaffected by the heavy rain.
"Let’s go," Jiang Mingyue handed the bigger umbrella to An Jian, and An Jian didn’t reject it.
"Thank you!"
Even with the umbrella, by the time they got home, they were still quite wet; the house lights were on, and Jiang Mingyue leaned her bicycle against the eaves before going inside. Suddenly, she heard the front door slam, and saw her cousin and Brother Xie carrying a big box inside. Jiang Mingyue quickly grabbed the dripping umbrella from under the eaves and ran over to help.
"Cousin, Brother Xie, why didn’t you try to avoid the rain?" They looked like they’d been fished out of water.
The two put the box down under the eaves, took the dry towel from her hands to wipe their faces, and finally had a chance to speak: "The bridge on Wutong Street is broken; luckily we ran quickly, or if we tried to shelter from the rain, we’d be stuck all night."
Jiang Mingyue was very familiar with the layout of Nanxi City and knew that the stone bridge was a necessary route for residents in that area. Only those unfamiliar with the road conditions would detour around, but in reality, no matter where you detour, the road conditions would be worse than the stone bridge path.
Her cousin’s words were not exaggerated; if it took until midnight to come back and the area was flooded, they’d be stranded. They wouldn’t dare to go on; after all, it’s a night road, where street lights frequently break, and power outages are common.
Mrs. Jiang heard the commotion and quickly came out to see them—a trio of laughing, soaking wet chickens—and felt both distressed and comforted.
Jiang Mingyue and the others were very surprised, calling out to people.
Mrs. Jiang hurriedly ushers them off.
"Don’t dawdle, go take a hot shower. I’ll make ginger soup for you."
Upon hearing ginger soup, Jiang Ming’an shivered instinctively. Mrs. Jiang assumed he had caught a chill and decided to add more ginger to make the soup stronger.
Jiang Mingyue also felt cold and realized tomorrow was the start of winter. She thought, since Mrs. Jiang was here, she’d make a pot of lamb soup tomorrow, along with the morels from the storage—perfect nourishment.
As she truly felt cold, she went back to her room intending to find a thick coat to change into, only to discover she didn’t have one. Then she remembered the two rattan boxes her cousin brought back from his distant trip, which she hadn’t even opened. She had indeed forgotten.
Between dealing with her uncle’s family and the case, her brain was still too small.
Jiang Mingyue locked the room door, quickly entered the space’s warehouse, and sure enough, she saw those two forgotten boxes quietly lying in the least conspicuous corner.
She thought no wonder her cousin’s gaze lately had been inexplicable. If it were her bringing a gift and not seeing it unveiled in daylight, she’d certainly have thoughts too.
She sifted through the keys to find the very last two, "Snap! Snap!" Opening the boxes, just as expected, one contained her clothes and shoes, comfortably padded with cotton clothing and shoes, with gloves, socks, and hats—all quite complete. The style, well, fit the current aesthetic, and Jiang Mingyue liked it, picking a thick one to put on while thinking of choosing one for Mrs. Jiang, only to find they were all her size. Even though Mrs. Jiang wasn’t fat, a working woman wearing something tight would surely be uncomfortable.
Still determined, she checked the other box and surprisingly found two sets of children’s clothes; Jiang Mingyue was dumbstruck, belatedly realizing her cousin’s gaze might have stemmed from this.
Looks like her cousin did have thoughts about Xiao Ran!
There was also a small box inside that made Jiang Mingyue’s eyes shine; she had a premonition.
Excitedly, she opened it, and indeed, a golden gleam burst forth. Jiang Mingyue quickly classified the box elsewhere—she was truly wealthy now.
Because she was happy, she came out with her cheeks flushed, and Mrs. Jiang brought over ginger soup, instantly becoming tense.
"Do you have a fever? You’re just like Xiao Ran, unable to take care of yourself."
What? "Xiao Ran has a fever?" Her steps became erratic, completely missing her mother’s words. It’s perfectly normal for a five-year-old not to know how to care for themselves, isn’t it?
