Chapter 1426: The Blade Of Despair

Chapter 1426: The Blade Of Despair

Revant looked at the slumbering body of the Prince with slight disgust. He dragged him to the jagged wall of the canyon then turned away, looking irritated for a moment.

With a flash, he vanished and appeared in the sky, staring down at the pale spine that stretched across the vast land beneath him.

On one section was a river of black and red. There were occasional explosions of flames that met brutal and sudden extinguishment. And loud screams ambitiously rose from beneath.

’Annette has fallen with a grave injury, is that my cue to step in?’

Revant’s eyes looked sideways, expecting a response, but no response came.

He sighed and looked down.

’Then I guess it is.’

He lifted his hand toward the sky and gave the tumultuous sea of despair within him form.

The heavens roared painfully and darkened, causing vast and unnaturally deep shadows to fall on the wall.

It was unignorable. The soldiers lifted their heads with fright, but the disaster moving within them did not stop. Their stupid fear cost them their lives before whatever nestled in the depths of the clouds did, its obsidian claws tearing through them with even more easing precision.

Vida glanced up only for a moment before she continued her business.

’Just now, I felt two large presences, and one of them was snuffed out before it could reach me... now there’s the strange overwhelming feeling of hopelessness that is dampening my movement...’

She had heard a few things from Annette about Revant, including the fact that he was a Tyrant. Everyone who was trapped in the Dark Continent and had to conquer a series of rifts would have come across their murals — depictions of how they spread violence and sin across the world. They were the demons to the angels of Origins.

And that was what made the nature of their powers quite terrifying.

How Northern had managed to get his hands on one of these existences was going to continue to be an unsolvable puzzle to her.

’He is amazing...’

For a moment, even though she was in an intense battle, moving like a peaceful whirlwind of death, her brown cheeks flushed.

The sky rumbled with a titanic terror. A lusterless amethyst light traveled through the depths of the clouds, as if something eldritch was moving within it, preparing to descend upon the world.

Vida felt her body go cold. Her limbs became harder to push forward, greatly stabbing her speed. She still ran fluidly between the river of soldiers, but she was far slower than before.

The good thing was... they were even more affected than she was, stricken down by the painless agony.

The weight that loomed in the atmosphere bore a chiling kinship to that of a funeral shroud. Stagnant with immense and unexplainable heaviness of the heart and soul.

Barely a second afterwards, a titanic blade with a pale-amethyst sheen slowly tore open the clouds, falling.

Revant had given his sea of despair the form of a colossal cleaver.

The wretched blade descended from the heavens, carrying with it an insurmountable weight of hopelessness.

The fall was slow... and almost unmoving, for a moment, it stilled.

Then it dropped.

...

Silence swallowed the world.

Everything on the wall, for a moment, halted. Its existence was lost, unable to withstand the vicious, antediluvian sea of hopelessness.

Vida felt her strength flow out of her body at a horrifying pace. Worse off... she didn’t want to do anything about it.

Because what was going to be the point? She could never get her strength back. She was weak against life — everything. Her family, her destiny, her body, her training. She was an abjectly weak human who continued to crawl with her teeth.

It was pitiful, and now she realized that no matter how much she tried to strive, she was never going to amount to anything. Even fodder was a prestige compared to her worthlessness.

With that came a feeling of vagueness... she didn’t matter enough to exist.

"Whoops..."

She was grabbed by Revant before she completely collapsed to her knees. Then he vanished without a trace.

Every soldier on that wall slowly crumbled to their faces. They glanced up, enthralled by despair. Somberness paled their expressions, and the strange weight that had sat upon the wall seemed now to cloak it completely.

This was just a prelude to the destruction that truly happened.

Revant smiled amusingly, staring at the wall, being a vast distance away himself.

Annette, who had managed to stop her bleeding with flames, stared at the wall with a purple look on her face.

Vida’s eyes widened and she staggered. Her helmet opened, and she drove out a revolting retch from her mouth.

Annette looked at the poor girl, then returned her lingering gaze to Revant.

After gathering her thoughts, she finally opened her mouth.

"Interesting, aren’t they?"

She turned to the wall where Revant had been staring all the while.

"Huh?"

"Leviathans."

"Oh..."

"They’re near impossible to kill. It’s terrifying."

Contrary to his words, Revant spoke with a rather amused voice.

"But you did it easily before... on our way to Ryugan."

Annette spilled some curses beneath her lips.

Revant turned to her, his face weary.

"Easy? It takes almost all of my strength to defeat a Leviathan."

He glanced back at the white wall.

"Even to cleave one that has been dead for centuries saps me of an equal amount of vigor it took to slay a living one."

Annette’s eyes widened.

"You... you don’t mean..."

She slowly turned in the direction of the wall, her face growing even paler than it had been thanks to her grave injuries.

A deep and wide chasm now separated the wall in the middle. It was large enough for a hundred people to walk through side by side and looked like an aberrant creature had savagely churned down its height with gigantic talons rather than simply being cleaved.

Her heart plummeted and the hairs on her back stood in horror.

Whatever preconceived thoughts she had about the height of Revant’s strength... surely she was wrong.

’He’s bastardly strong! What the hell?! When did this happen?!’

She had not even heard anything, one moment the wall was there, the next, it was like it had always been this torn.

Her mouth froze open.

’I don’t know whether to fear this beast or the boy that calls himself his master more.’

Finally managing to gather herself, she asked with a stuttering voice.

"H-H-How?"

Revant replied nonchalantly, his face frozen with a ghostly smile.

"How else... I gave it despair."
