Chapter 769: Cosmic bloodlines [Golden Ticket Chapter Bonus]
Faye’s hand tightened slightly on Jack’s back, her green eyes reflecting concern as she observed the weight of the revelation settling onto him like snow accumulating during a winter storm.
“Ophion is your direct ancestor,” Ren said, his voice carrying the clinical tone of someone stating a fact.
“The first of the Shattered Kings. The one who defied hierarchy before hierarchy even existed as a concept. He spoke to you in your Madness state because the amplified consciousness temporarily stripped away the barriers between your current awareness and your ancestral blood. Your descent from him is not distant or diluted. It runs through your core like molten metal through stone, inseparable and fundamental. He told you what you are, and the revelation broke something inside your mind because your mind was not prepared to comprehend the full scope of what your bloodline contains.”
Jack’s eyes began to lose focus as his consciousness turned inward, retreating from the immediate environment into landscapes of his own understanding and confusion.
Ren had provided the basic information, but the implications were spiraling outward in fractals of increasing complexity, creating questions that multiplied faster than answers could hope to address them.
How did Ren know this? The question formed with sharp clarity. The Sovereign-rank warrior was from the Prosperity Kingdom, a civilization that had fallen three hundred years ago, buried in history and relegated to dusty archives.
He had studied the tower’s deepest histories, compiled knowledge across centuries of isolation, but that alone didn’t explain how he possessed information about Jack’s ancestry.
Information so specific, fundamental to Jack’s very existence, that it seemed impossible anyone alive could know it.
Did his family know? The thought struck like a blade forged from ice. Jack’s family history was still largely obscure to him, a mystery wrapped in shadows.
He had been reborn into this world as a child, but his origins before that rebirth remained shrouded in mystery; it felt intentional.
If his parents, his relatives, or anyone in his bloodline had known about his descent from the three most powerful categories of beings ever created. These beings predated civilization itself. Why had they never mentioned it? How could they have kept such knowledge hidden from him?
Why hadn’t Tharaxis or Emberion said anything?
The thought crystallized with unsettling clarity, cold and sharp as broken glass.
Jack’s contracted dragons lived within his consciousness, existing in a space beyond his normal awareness, yet intimately connected to every aspect of his power and existence. They dwelt in the depths of his being, present at every moment of his waking consciousness and even during sleep.
If anyone would know about his ancestry, his literal descent from the Primal Monoliths, the Celestial Archons, and the Shattered Kings, it would be them.
They had been observing him since the beginning, had bound themselves to him through soul contracts forged in power and sacrifice, had watched him grow and develop his abilities. Yet they had remained silent. Absolutely silent about his bloodline.
Was their silence intentional? A conscious choice to withhold information because they feared what he might become if he understood the full scope of his inheritance?
Did they believe that knowledge of his ancestry would destabilize him, would drive him toward paths of destruction and conquest?
Or did the restriction apply to them as well, some bound limitation, perhaps written into the contracts themselves, that prevented them from speaking the truth about his ancestry?
And Malakai.
The name emerged from the depths of his mind with the weight of a revelation Jack didn’t fully understand, a concept that seemed to exist just beyond the edge of his comprehension.
Malakai, an entity so powerful, so fundamentally significant, that Jack’s connection to it had nearly destroyed him when he first made contact with the first part of his soul.
The presence had been overwhelming, suffocating, like trying to contain an ocean within the space of a cup. Ren had mentioned that Malakai was the original Soul Warden, that he had commanded hundreds of millions of soldiers across battlefields spanning continents, and that the gap between Malakai’s power and Jack’s current power was incomprehensibly vast.
The difference between a candle flame and the sun.
But if Jack was descended from the three categories of beings that Sarin had created and if those represented the most powerful entities ever brought into existence by divine will, then where did Malakai fit into that hierarchy?
Was Malakai descended from one of the three categories?
Was Malakai one of the Shattered Kings?
One of the Celestial Archons, removed from godhood and remade?
One of the Primal Monoliths, embodying the power of dragonkind?
Or was Malakai something entirely separate?
A being so powerful that it transcended the categories Sarin had created, existing in a realm of power that made even the original Monoliths, Archons, and Kings seem like children playing with toys?
If Jack carried the blood of all three categories within his own being, and one of the three fractured parts of Malakai’s soul resided within Jack’s system, what did that mean?
Was the fragment of Malakai that dwelt within him descended from those same cosmic lineages, or was Malakai something entirely separate?
A being whose nature transcended the bloodlines Jack carried?
And if one fragment of Malakai’s shattered soul could coexist with the blood of all three categories, what were the implications of a single vessel housing both Jack’s cosmic inheritance and a piece of an entity as powerful as the original Soul Warden?
How were Malakai and Sarin connected?
The question spun outward, creating fractals of confusion that seemed to multiply exponentially with each moment he considered it.
If Sarin had created the most powerful beings in existence, and if Malakai was comparable or superior in power to those categories, what did that mean?
Was Malakai one of Sarin’s creations, elevated to a position beyond the three main categories?
Was Malakai perhaps a being Sarin had hidden away, kept separate from the cosmos until the right moment, waiting for a vessel capable of containing its power?
Or, and this thought struck with the force of lightning, shattering through his consciousness like a blade through silk, was Malakai something that existed before Sarin?
Was Malakai the force through which Sarin expressed creation itself? Was Malakai the primordial consciousness that had dreamed reality into existence, with Sarin merely serving as one of its tools?
Jack’s eyes had gone completely unfocused, his gaze pointing toward a wall but perceiving nothing of the physical world around him.
His body remained upright, supported by Faye’s hand against his back. Still, his consciousness had retreated entirely into the internal labyrinth of questions with no clear answers, spiraling deeper the more he attempted to comprehend them.
The silence stretched for what felt like an eternity, though time itself seemed to lose meaning in the face of such fundamental confusion.
Faye remained still, her bubbly personality subdued by the recognition that Jack was processing something far beyond her capacity to assist with.
She maintained her position, offering physical support and presence while remaining otherwise invisible to him. Her hand didn’t move, her breathing remained quiet and steady, her entire being compressed into the simple act of being present.
