Chapter 805: Sylvia vs. Rhys Part I [Golden Ticket Chapter Bonus]

The water rose to ankle height.

Then knee height.

Then waist height.

The arena floor had vanished beneath the rising liquid. The water was cold.

Not freezing, but sufficiently frigid to raise goosebumps across exposed skin. The resistance of the medium was tangible, pressing against every limb, demanding effort for every movement.

Sylvia moved immediately. Her water affinity allowed her to navigate the rising liquid with perfect coordination.

Her speed was unaffected by the medium she controlled. She accelerated toward Rhys, her body cutting through the water with minimal resistance, her movements smooth and efficient despite the surrounding liquid.

Bastian and Miriame began to slow.

Their movements through the thickening water became labored. Each step required constant effort against the drag and pressure of the liquid.

Each motion met resistance that Sylvia did not experience. The water that had been harmless was now a battleground tailored entirely to Rhys’s advantage.

Sylvia’s fists extended in rapid combination. Left jab aimed at Rhys’s center mass, right cross following immediately, left hook designed to target his head, right uppercut coming from her hips.

Her technique was flawless.

Her speed was extraordinary. Her strikes were powered by water magic that perfectly synchronized with her physical movement, amplifying both force and accuracy.

Rhys did not retreat.

He raised his hands and manifested water walls.

The walls erupted from the surrounding liquid, forming barriers of compressed water that intercepted Sylvia’s strikes.

Her left jab connected with the wall and stopped dead.

The impact absorbed by the dense water formation that held its structure despite the force being directed against it. The wall collapsed inward and reformed instantly behind Sylvia, creating a second barrier that she had to pivot around.

She adapted immediately, shifting her angle of attack, seeking gaps in his defense, and using her speed advantage to overwhelm his defensive structures.

But the water walls kept forming.

They appeared faster than she could strike. Their strategic placement exhibited a level of precision typically associated with advanced mages.

Each wall manifested exactly where her strike would connect, exactly when she needed to be defended against. It was not a reactive defense. It was predictive defense.

Rhys moved toward her slowly.

His wind magic enhanced his speed, propelling him forward despite the water resistance that should have slowed normal competitors.

His water magic flowed around his body, creating currents that accelerated his movement further. He was moving at speeds comparable to Sylvia’s despite the water medium that was now reaching chest height.

The water temperature was dropping. Rhys’s magic was actively cooling it, transforming it into something closer to ice-water, numbing exposed skin, draining body heat from anyone not actively maintaining magical resistance.

Sylvia felt the cold seeping into her limbs. Her muscles began to tense at the temperature change.

Her reflexes were slowing fractionally.

Not enough to notice under normal circumstances, but enough that Rhys’s defensive walls were appearing faster relative to her striking speed.

She attempted to create distance. She pivoted and accelerated backward, her water affinity allowing her to move at full speed through water that was beginning to reach chest height.

Rhys pursued.

His hands extended, and water began to rotate around them. The rotation increased in speed and intensity.

The liquid spiraled faster and faster until it resembled miniature cyclones contained within his palms. The rotation generated force, generated velocity, and generated the potential for devastating impact.

He released them.

The water tornadoes spun outward like Beyblades, rotating with such velocity that they cut through the water around them with visible force.

Their movements were strategically calculated to intersect with Sylvia’s trajectory, effectively preventing any potential escape and limiting her available options.

She dodged the first one.

A sharp acceleration to her left that allowed her to slip past the spinning water blade, the rotation missing her by inches, the disrupted water trailing behind the tornado as it continued its trajectory.

The second tornado caught her shoulder.

The impact was not blunt force. It was a cutting force.

The spinning water lacerated her shoulder, drawing blood that mixed with the water around her, her body’s heat warming the surrounding liquid momentarily before dissipating.

Her cry erupted involuntarily as pain overwhelmed her senses.

A sharp, cutting, more intense impact than any blunt impact could generate.

Her acceleration stumbled. Her rhythm was disrupted. Her perfect coordination was fragmenting under the sudden trauma and the recognition that Rhys was generating attacks she could not simply defend against.

Blood was diffusing through the water around her, creating clouds of crimson that drifted downward through the liquid.

Rhys raised his other hand.

Lightning gathered in his palm. Electricity crackled across his fingers with visible intensity.

Arcs of power that danced between his knuckles, that illuminated his hand with blue-white light. The lightning was not contained. It was raw power waiting for direction.

No one knew it, but Rhys found a way to generate the lightning from his dagger without swinging it, making it appear as if he had a third element.

He extended his hand upward and connected the electricity with the water surrounding him.

The entire arena was filled with electrical discharge.

The water conducted the electricity throughout the liquid medium with perfect efficiency.

Every particle of water became a carrier of electrical current.

The liquid itself was transformed into a weapon.

A medium that conveyed power, facilitated destruction, and rendered resistance virtually impossible.

Sylvia’s body convulsed as the current passed through her.

It wasn’t a killing voltage but enough to disrupt her nervous system completely, to force her muscles to contract involuntarily, to compromise her motor control and her ability to defend herself.

Her scream was involuntary, a raw scream of the electrical stimulation overloading her nerve endings.

She staggered backward, her body shaking from the residual electrical stimulation, her water affinity providing some resistance but not enough to prevent the complete disruption of her coordination.

At the observation tiers, the Council members watched in horror.

Leandros had risen from his seat. His hand was gripping the railing with such intensity that his ancient knuckles had gone completely white.

His eyes were fixed on the arena, where his daughter stood in the water, watching his expression transform from weariness to dawning comprehension of the danger she faced.

Tymandra’s wine goblet had slipped from her fingers and shattered on the stone floor. The red liquid pooled at her feet, but she did not appear to notice. Her eyes were wide.

Caspian’s entire body was trembling. His hands were gripping the balustrade so tightly that splinters of wood were digging into his palms, but the physical pain was irrelevant.

He was watching what he had created.

His decision to give Byron the Bloodrush pill, his decision to attempt to manipulate the tournament, unraveling before him.

Duke Asher’s composure had completely fractured.

His demeanor showed a comprehensive reevaluation of his perceptions regarding power and capability within Cordelia Academy.

His daughter was facing someone who was leagues above the normal measurement at this academy.

The announcer’s voice had ceased. There was no commentary. There was only the sound of water splashing, of electrical discharge crackling, of the arena transforming into a demonstration of dominance that transcended what a finals match should be.
