I Died and Became a Noble's Heir

Chapter 808: Dynamic Duo

Chapter 808: Dynamic Duo

Three days had passed since the finals ended, and Jack stood deep beneath the stone roots of the capital.

The tunnel descended into absolute, suffocating darkness.

At the center point of the ancient passage, Jack raised his hand. A tear in space opened before him. A jagged, purple-edged portal that peeled back reality to reveal another sector of the Spire.

Ren stepped through first. His silver-blue armor caught the ambient dark mana, and his katana remained sheathed at his waist.

He didn’t speak; his presence simply expanded to fill the entire subterranean chamber like an unspoken threat.

A second portal fractured the air beside him.

Pho emerged, his deathfrost magic radiating outward in physical waves, trailing like a freezing mist down the treeline of the dark passage.

His frame was massive. Shulders were broad, his dense musculature forged through decades of brutal, survival-driven conditioning. His skin carried the faint, pale blue-white hue of high-tier ice magic, and his heavy breath bloomed into thick clouds of vapor.

Jack extended his hand, pointing deeper into the abyss.

Five hundred dark elves marched out from the portal in flawless, terrifying synchronization.

They wore pristine white articulated armor.

The elite, personal strike force granted by Maelor’s secret directives.

The stark white metal plates created a blinding visual contrast against their dark skin, and their pitch-black, lightless eyes reflected nothing as they locked onto the darkness ahead.

”Beneath these tunnels lies the forgotten architecture of the original dark elf kingdom,” Jack said, his voice carrying through the stone corridors without needing to be raised.

“The surface abandoned it centuries ago when they chose genocide over coexistence. Today, you reclaim these halls. Clear every red demon infesting this sector. The blue demon waiting in the lower depths is mine. Do not kill him. That creature is mine.”

He lowered his hand. “Move.”

Ren began his descent immediately. His footsteps were silent, calculated, navigating the steep decline without a single wasted motion.

He didn’t rush. He didn’t surge forward with chaotic aggression. He walked with the absolute certainty of a predator who owned the space he inhabited.

Pho followed a pace behind, his deathfrost magic continuously spilling off his shoulders. The temperature in the tunnel plummeted violently; rime and frost crystallized across the ancient elven masonry.

In his right grip, he carried his ice axe.

A massive, brutal weapon carved from pure, glacial core-ice that carried the density of forged titan-steel.

The five hundred dark elves advanced behind them like a tide of white steel, their black eyes scanning the gloom.

”You’re walking down here like you built the damn place,” Pho grunted, his deep voice echoing off the frost-slick stone. He adjusted his grip on the axe, his muscles coiling.

“Jack’s the only one who’s mapped these depths. You don’t know what’s waiting at the bottom.”

Ren didn’t turn his head. “I don’t need a map to recognize a killing ground. Look at the archways. The defensive chokepoints. The narrow killing funnels. This wasn’t a city; it was a fortress built for a siege. That means the infestation won’t be scattered. It will be dense, organized, and waiting for someone to come.”

”Good,” Pho growled, his deathfrost spiking violently as a jagged layer of ice coated his forearm. A dark, eager grin split his face. “I was worried this was going to be boring. I need something to break.”

”Save your mana for the lower chambers,” Ren replied flatly. “If you trained Rhys half as ruthlessly as you claim, you know that reckless excitement gets soldiers killed.”

Pho let out a harsh, gravelly laugh. “I didn’t train the kid to be a soldier. I trained him to survive. I broke his ribs, froze his blood, and taught him that pain is just information telling you where you’re weak. Look at him now. He just dismantled the Council’s golden children in front of the entire continent.”

”His foundation held,” Ren conceded smoothly as they reached a massive structural archway. “Jack provided the blueprint; you provided the iron. Just make sure you bring that same discipline down here. Orders look good on you, Pho. Don’t spoil it.”

The tunnel opened abruptly into a staggering underground expanse.

It was a cavernous cathedral carved directly into the planet’s bedrock. Massive stone pillars rose toward a distant ceiling, engineered eons ago to house an army.

Ancient dark elf statuary lined the perimeter. Carved representations of legendary vanguard warriors in aggressive combat postures.

Then the smell hit them.

It wasn’t merely the stench of decay. It was the volatile, metallic tang of active demonic corruption. Blood essence being chemically harvested and manipulated by dark magic.

From the shadows of the pillars, red demons emerged in coordinated, swarming waves. Hundreds of them. Humanoids twisted by corrupting mana, beasts warped into skinless nightmares, their eyes glowing with crimson, unholy light.

Pho’s eyes widened with dark satisfaction. He surged forward, raising his massive ice axe above his head as deathfrost exploded from his boots, freezing the stone floor in a thirty-yard radius.

”Watch this,” Pho roared, his frame coiling to deliver a strike meant to shatter the entire front line. “Let me show you how a real weapon works…”

Before the axe could reach the apex of its arc, Ren moved.

There was no flash of light, no spatial tear, no sound. Ren simply ceased to exist where he stood and materialized at the absolute center of the demon swarm.

Slink.

Ren’s katana cleared its sheath by an inch and snapped back into place.

A razor-thin, horizontal line of purple spatial light bisected the air. Thirty-seven red demons froze instantly mid-stride.

A fraction of a second later, their upper torsos slid cleanly off their waists, erupting into clouds of evaporating demonic ash and black blood before they even hit the stone.

Pho’s axe brought down a massive shockwave of ice, pulverizing empty air and smashing into the headless corpses that Ren had already killed.

Pho froze, his axe buried in the frozen ground, staring at the empty space where his targets had been a millisecond prior.

His chest heaved, his face flushing with raw irritation as he snapped his gaze toward Ren, who was already casually stepping over a pile of ash.

”Every single time!” Pho snarled, pulling his axe from the stone with a crack of ice. “You do that spatial trick every damn time! I’m halfway through a swing, putting whole tons of force into an execution, and you cut the space out from under me! It’s like fighting alongside a ghost, Ren!”

Ren paused, glancing back over his shoulder with flat, blue eyes. “Then stop swinging at where the enemy is, and start swinging at where they’re going to retreat. This isn’t a performance, Pho. It’s a harvest. Use your deathfrost to pin their flanks. Let the dark elves close the perimeter.”

”Tsk,” Pho spat, though the tactical logic sank in. He swung his axe in a wide, sweeping arc, unleashing a wave of absolute-zero cold that flash-froze fifty charging demons into solid ice statues.

“Fine. But leave some for the white-armored boys behind us.”

The five hundred dark elves moved into the cathedral with mechanical, terrifying precision.

They didn’t shout war cries. They didn’t break ranks. They formed a tight, advancing phalanx, their white armor gleaming under the crimson glow of the demonic eyes.

Where Pho froze, the dark elves shattered. Where the demons tried to flank, the dark elves’ glowing bloodline tattoos flared, turning their spears into lethal streaks of light.

As the first chamber was systematically cleansed, Ren walked alongside Pho, his katana resting lightly against his hip.
