I Died and Became a Noble's Heir

Chapter 876: Soul Grafting

Chapter 876: Soul Grafting

His fingers blurred through the air, drawing concentric circles of interlocking, ancient script that floated between them in radiant, iridescent silver-black fire.

The contract expanded to the size of a war-banner, dense with unyielding clauses: absolute obedience to the Current Soul Warden, immediate execution upon deceptive intent, total forfeiture of personal secrets, and eternal service as the Castle Steward of Floor 25.

Valeria stared at the floating, self-sustaining matrix, her amber eyes wide with genuine awe.

“You mastered the weave on the first attempt…” she breathed, shaking her head. “No hesitation. No flaw in the execution loop. You really are an impossible bastard.”

“Sign,” Jack commanded coldly. “Or I walk through the gate alone.”

Valeria didn’t hesitate. She bit the tip of her spiritual thumb, drawing a drop of glowing, crimson soul-blood, and pressed her hand flat against the center of the floating silver-black matrix.

FLASH.

The contract flared with blinding, concussive brilliance. The intricate geometric circles collapsed inward, condensing into a single, glowing brand that split in two.

One half shot straight into Valeria’s forehead, sinking deep into the foundation of her spiritual vessel, while the other half surged into Jack’s right palm, burning a small, intricate seal beneath his skin.

The master-servant tether locked into place.

Jack felt her presence instantly. A fierce, burning ember completely subordinated to his absolute will. If she so much as formulated a thought of direct betrayal, a simple flex of his soul core would detonate her spiritual matrix into nonexistence.

Valeria let out a ragged gasp, dropping to one knee as the weight of the absolute binding settled over her. She pushed herself up, a feral, satisfied smirk returning to her lips despite the collar around her neck.

“Fair enough, Master,” she rasped, dusting off her leather pants. “Now for your payment.”

“The Red Sigil formula,” Jack demanded.

Valeria’s expression turned grim. “You aren’t going to find the original parchment in the castle archives, Jack. And I can’t draw the complete master matrix from memory because it was never meant to be memorized. It requires the primeval substrate etched onto the original sheet.”

Jack’s heterochromic eyes narrowed, a dangerous chill bleeding into his aura. “You promised the formula.”

“And I’m telling you where to get it,” Valeria snapped back, unflinching. “Centuries ago, before Mira took my head, the Spire suffered a fracture. The Ember Clan, a fanatical splinter sect of fire-attuned zealots who worship the lower volcanic faults, breached the restricted archives. They stole the original Red Sigil parchment.”

She pointed upward, toward the churning crimson sky.

“They fled to Floor 30. They built an unassailable mountain fortress within the molten caldera of that floor, using the parchment to empower their high warlords with artificial flame matrices. If you want the true, uncorrupted Red Sigil to complete your elemental ascension, you will have to march your army onto Floor 30 and pry the parchment from the dead fingers of the Ember Clan’s Grand Patriarch.”

Jack absorbed the information with cold, calculating detachment. Floor 30 was already a milestone threshold on his ascent. Knowing the exact prize waiting in the caldera gave his campaign a precise, unyielding target.

“And the remaining Soul Keys?” Jack pressed.

“Malakai scattered the elemental keys across the milestone floors to ensure only a conqueror could claim them,” Valeria explained rapidly. “The Blue Key is sealed in the sunken abyss of Floor 48, guarded by a slumbering Leviathan. The Verdant Key is locked in the sky-citadel of Floor 50. Claim Floor 30, recover the Red Sigil, and the path to the remaining vaults will open.”

“Understood,” Jack said.

He stepped forward, raising his right hand toward her chest. “Prepare yourself. We are leaving.”

“Show me this fabled Soul Grafting,” Valeria said, her amber eyes burning with fierce anticipation. “Pull me out of this dirt.”

Jack reached deep into his Soul Warden authority, activating Soul Grafting.

A soft, ethereal silver glow enveloped his hand. Jack pressed his palm against Valeria’s chest.

Instead of striking physical resistance, his fingers sank smoothly into her spiritual form. Her ghostly vessel didn’t tear; it unraveled into thousands of fine, scarlet ribbons of light, swirling in a tight vortex around Jack’s arm.

With surgical precision, Jack guided the swirling spiritual threads inward. He didn’t consume her essence like the Tidefang Demons; he anchored her spirit into an isolated, dormant compartment within his own soul meridians, resting directly beneath the Dark Sigil on his back.

Valeria’s physical form in the Red Soul Realm vanished entirely. Within Jack’s core, a warm, steady ember settled into dormant containment.

Safe, bound, and ready to be transplanted into a living vessel on the other side.

The moment the graft was complete, the world around Jack violently shuddered.

The bloated blood-moon in the crimson heavens fractured like brittle glass. Air pressure collapsed, and the sulfur winds died into an eerie, suffocating vacuum.

In the center of Jack’s physical chest, miles away in the subterranean vault of the mortal world, the **Soul Key** reached its rotational limit. The mechanism engaged its return cycle.

A deafening, metallic *CLANG* resonated through the fabric of his mind.

Space tore open beneath Jack’s boots, dragging his astral consciousness downward into a blinding, spinning void of interlocking gears and ancient celestial light.

Jack’s physical lungs expanded with a sharp, concussive inhalation.

The ancient, petrified scent of the divine vault flooded his throat. The blinding light of the white-stone chamber snapped into razor-sharp focus, banishing the crimson skies of the Red Soul Realm in a fraction of a second.

Jack stood perfectly upright in the center of the floor, his boots planted firmly into the pristine stone.

His dark wool coat fluttered slightly as his mana flared back to life, the silver streaks beneath his skin humming with restored physical density. In the center of his sternum, the iridescent handle of Malakai’s Soul Key gave a soft, final CLICK, releasing its hold on his core.

Jack reached up with his right hand, gripped the cold, multi-dimensional metal, and pulled.

The key slid smoothly out of his chest without drawing a single drop of blood. The ethereal aperture in his sternum sealed shut seamlessly, leaving his pale skin unmarked, while the microscopic weeping eye-glyphs along the key’s spine closed in dormant satisfaction. He slipped the artifact back into his system storage.

Within his soul meridians, the newly grafted ember of Valeria’s spirit rested quietly, tethered by the unbreakable independent contract he had woven with his own hands.

“Soul Warden.” A raspy, hollow voice broke the heavy silence of the chamber.

Loryn stood five paces away, his gaunt, near-skeletal frame draped in dark alchemical robes.

His sunken, brilliant purple eyes flickered with intense analytical curiosity as he observed Jack’s return. In his pale, bony hands, he held a long stirring rod forged of blackened iron, its tip dripping with dense, glowing fluid.

“The astral displacement lasted precisely fourteen minutes, thirty-two seconds,” Loryn reported, his voice devoid of emotion, operating purely on cold certainty. “Your physical vessel remained completely stable. The ambient reagents have reached peak thermal saturation.”

Behind Loryn, the massive stone vats bubbled violently.

The high-grade demon blood, black binders, and blood had completely broken down, sending thick plumes of violet and red vapor rising toward the curved white ceiling.
