Part 2
“?! No way…”
As the evil spirits turned their gaze to the collapsed figures of my parents on the floor, Kuuya-san seemed to realize something.
Then, the two demons grinned maliciously.
“That’s right. You know, don’t you? About our abilities!”
“We devour human hearts to gather power and plant evil thoughts in empty voids. We used that power to toy with their minds, trying to make them kill that little brat over there!”
“!?”
As I stood stunned by the demons’ words, they turned their gaze toward Youta and Sora.
“Well, we also tampered with their hearts, but since we weren’t possessing them directly, they were able to free themselves from our power somehow. It was bloody disgusting!”
…So it wasn’t just Dad and Mom. Youta and Sora’s actions were also caused by these guys.
“I see. Youta and Sora were lucky to be freed from their power because they experienced Yuuya’s power firsthand…”
Hearing this, Kuuya-san murmured, his expression grim.
Ignoring him, the evil spirits continued.
“Still, this isn’t working out either, huh? Both this man and this woman should have just killed their son already. Instead, they kept using these roundabout methods. That little brat just wouldn’t die, no matter how long we waited…”
“It would have been easier if he had just killed himself, but he wouldn’t even do that. He’s nothing but trouble.”
“On top of that, he’s standing in our way, right when we were about to fully revive. It’s absolutely the worst.”
“Well, even so, we could easily kill the likes of you now!”
The evil spirits continued their conversation, completely ignoring me.
“You bastards! To toy with a person’s heart like this!”
“Kuhahahaha! Fine! I wanted to see that look on your face!”
“Your descendants were the best, weren’t they? They weren’t quite as good as that little brat over there, but even as ordinary humans, their demonic power was top-notch! They were the finest prey for us. Thanks to them, we grew strong!”
“Well, then. We’ll slaughter every last member of the Tenjou family right here and now. How about that? Awesome, right!?”
Facing these demons who spouted whatever they pleased, I felt my heart grow cold.
So this was why I was tormented by my family all this time. Was it because of these bastards?
Because of them, I… My dad, my mom… And Youta and Sora.
That thought struck me in that instant.
The demons, grinning sadistically, lunged at me.
“To start things off, I’ll kill that little brat standing there like a dummy!”
“Not a chance!”
Kuuya-san tried to restrain the demons with the chains of demonic power wrapped around their bodies, but they tore them apart with ease.
“What!?”
“Kuhahahaha! Fools! You’re already dead! You can’t possibly have the same power you did in life!”
“Besides, we’ve grown much stronger since then. Your chains don’t scare us at all!”
With that, the demons’ sharp claws closed in before my eyes.
“Die already!”
“Yuuya!”
Kuuya-san’s scream reached my ears at that very instant.
Enormous demonic power erupted from my body.

“Wh-what!?”
“Guh!”
The sheer force of it repelled the two demons that had lunged at me effortlessly.
“Wh-what is this demonic power?”
What the hell was going on!?”
The demons looked utterly bewildered, as if they were witnessing something unbelievable.
I ignored them and drew my Omni-Sword.
In an instant, I slipped into the demon’s embrace and swung my blade.
“Hah! It’s easy to block such…”
“!”
Flash.
A single line sliced through the evil spirit’s neck. Its head slid off, leaving behind an expression of utter bewilderment. Both the head and body dissolved into the air and vanished.
“I-Impossible! One strike? That can’t be—”
The demon who witnessed this scene widened its eyes in shock.
“Shut up.”
“Huh?”
Without waiting for the demon to finish speaking, I sliced it clean in two, from crown to body, with the Omni-Sword.
Then, the demon let out a pitiful cry and vanished in its final moments.
I exhaled slowly, watching this.
“Yuuya… Because of me. Because I let those bastards escape back then…”
Kuuya-san said, his voice filled with deep regret.
As Kuuya-san said, if he had defeated them while he was alive, I might not have had to go through this.
But…
“It’s okay. They’re the ones at fault.”
Yes, they were at fault.
No matter the circumstances, they did terrible things to my family.
“So please don’t worry about it. I’m fine.”
“Yuuya…”
“But if… if they hadn’t harmed my family… would I have been able to live happily from the beginning?”
“…”
I found myself saying that, but I immediately shook my head.
“No, it’s nothing. More importantly, what should we do now?”
Yes, Youta and Sora had seen the demons’ and Kuuya-san’s forms.
How was I supposed to explain this to them when they woke up?
Then, Kuuya-san spoke.
“You needn’t worry about that. We’ll guide their consciousness.”
“Guide? What do you mean by that?”
“The best solution would be to erase their memories, of course. Memories about me, whom they saw for the first time today, should be easy to erase. However, due to years of exposure to the demon’s power, erasing memories of your parents, who were possessed by demons, or the brief glimpse of demons they saw earlier, will be difficult. But it is possible to guide their consciousness to believe it was a misunderstanding or their imagination while leaving the memories intact.”
“I-I see…”
“Well, you’ll understand when they wake up. But I don’t know how their memories will be affected.”
As Kuuya-san and I were talking, Youta and Sora began to wake up.
“Ugh… Where am I?”
“Youta! Are you okay!?”
“Yeah. I’m fine, but wait—what about that monster from earlier?”
Youta scrambled to his feet, looking flustered.
Then, drawn by the commotion, Sora woke up too.
“Ugh…”
“Sora, are you okay?”
“Y-yes, I’m fine… Wait, Onii-chan! There were monsters there just now!”
Sora pointed frantically.
Of course, I had already defeated the demons, so there was nothing left.
“Huh? What was that?”
“You two, are you okay? You both collapsed suddenly. That scared me.”
“N-no, no, no! No way! Wait, Nii-san, you didn’t see that just now!”
“What are you talking about?”
I replied to Youta.
According to Kuuya-san, it was about guiding consciousness.
Just as I started to worry if they were okay, Youta and Sora looked puzzled.
“You really didn’t see it?”
“Well, but monsters like that can’t actually exist…”
“That’s true, but then why do Sora and I both have memories of seeing the same monster?”
“Well, you know, maybe because you’re twins?”
“I guess that could be it.”
They seemed somewhat unconvinced, but, as Kuuya-san had said, Youta and Sora had come to believe the monster was just their imagination.
Then, this time, Dad and Mom woke up.
“Ugh…”
“Hmmm… Why was I asleep, I wonder…”
They sat up and wore expressions more serene than I had ever seen before. Youta and Sora were also surprised by the sight, and they couldn’t hide it.
“D-Dad, Mom…”
“Ara? Youta and Sora, what’s wrong? You look so dazed…”
“Hm? Wait, is that Yuuya over there?”
Then, noticing me, Dad’s eyes widened.
“Oh, Yuuya! It’s been a while! How have you been?”
“Y-yeah…”
Stunned by this sudden turn of events, I stood there, bewildered, while my parents looked puzzled.
“Hm? Come to think of it, why is Yuuya here?”
“Well… Oh, that reminds me. Why was Yuuya living apart from us again?”
They tilted their heads, completely baffled by everything that had happened and the current situation.
Seeing them like this, Youta and Sora tilted their heads, too.
“Huh? Dad and Mom, you don’t remember?”
“D-Don’t remember?”
“Even if you say that…”
The four grew even more bewildered.
Probably, with the demons gone, whatever “malice” had been implanted in Dad and Mom had vanished, too.
And as a result, it seemed like they didn’t properly remember anything that happened after the evil thoughts were implanted.
Still, I couldn’t tell if the lack of memory gaps or confusion was due to Kuuya-san’s demonic power or the demon’s influence.
But, whatever the case, this was the true form of my parents.
Then, facing my parents, who remembered nothing, Youta raised his voice, looking slightly angry.
“What?! Because of you two, Nii-san—”
“Youta.”
“Huh?”
I silenced Youta with a hand gesture. He widened his eyes in surprise.
Then, stepping before them, I smiled.
“Long time no see. I came back home for the holidays because I wanted to spend New Year’s with everyone.”
──I decided they didn’t need to remember everything that had happened before.
Now that I knew it was all the demon’s influence, I didn’t want them to carry those painful memories.
Of course, it was true that I went through some really hard times before, but that was now over.
I was happy now. And since we removed the root cause infesting our family, there was no need to bring it up again.
It took a long time, but if I could spend more time with everyone as we truly were from now on, that was all that mattered.
When I said that, Youta and Sora were stunned. Mom and Dad were confused but smiled.
“Oh, really? Well, then I’d better get motivated and make some New Year’s dishes!”
“I’m looking forward to the New Year’s soba noodles, too.”
With that, Dad and Mom started chatting as if nothing had happened.
As I watched them, Youta and Sora asked me,
“Are you really okay with it? About Dad and Mom…”
“It’s fine. I can’t go into details, but they’ve returned to their original selves.”
“Huh?”
“Back to their original selves?”
Ignoring the two of them, who looked completely confused, I moved closer to Mom.
“I’m really looking forward to your cooking, Mom.”
“Fufu, really?”
Looking at Mom’s gentle expression—one I’d never seen before—and Dad’s calm face, I finally felt it strongly. I had truly become a member of this family.
