Part 7
As they celebrated, Luna said,
“Well done, Selene. Seeing you grow stronger and more mature, I’m sure His Majesty the King will be pleased.”
“Thank you. It’s been a long journey, but I finally made it here… It’s thanks to everyone.”
Selene’s voice choked with tears, and she smiled, showing her white teeth.
Lexia puffed out her chest with pride.
“That settles it!”
“Yes. All that remains is to give the order to seal the machine soldier.”
Selene said, holding up the key to the silent machine soldier.
“──I command you by the blood of the royal family. Ancient weapons created by a civilization that has come to an end, you shall once again fall into a long slumber.”
The key emitted a blue glow, and in inverse proportion, the light faded from the machine soldier’s eyes.
──But…
The key Selene was holding suddenly seemed to lose its glow, and it shattered with a high-pitched sound.
CRASH…!
“Eh!?”
“T-The Key…!”
“Ah, look! The machine soldier…”
“Oooooooooo…──”
There was a black, eerie light in the machine soldier’s eyes.
It lifted its drooping head and stood up on its broken legs.
The lightning cannon that had stopped earlier was once again emitting a black glow from its chest.
“Wha…! The lightning cannon has restarted…?”
“W-what the hell is this…?”
A scream erupted next to the four surprised people.
“Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!?”
“!?”
When they looked, they saw a black snake-like thing attached to Douglas, who was lying at the feet of the machine soldier.
“Th-That’s…”
“Eek, w-what is this…!”
The snake grew out of the throne on the machine soldier’s chest.
It wrapped around Douglas, who was crawling desperately to escape, and pulled him onto the throne.
“A-are you trying to take me in…? Stop, stop…! Please, help me…!”
“Douglas!”
“Fierce Claw!”
Tito fired a vacuum wave at the snake that had wrapped itself around Douglas.
However,
Boom, boom!
It was repelled by the lightning that was released from the throne.
“T-The attack is repelled…!”
“Kuh, stop, machine soldier! Stop! Listen to my orders!”
Selene pleads desperately.
However, the machine soldier does not stop, and the power is gathered in its main cannon.
“Why can’t I control it? And why did the key shatter?!”
“Oooooooooooooo!”
“G-guaaaaaaaaaaaa!?”
Douglas screamed from the machine soldier’s throne.
“Gaaaah, w-what is it? My power is being absorbed…! Aaa, aahhhhhh…!”
“Douglas!”
“L-look at that!”
The same crest as the shattered key appeared on Douglas’ body as he writhed in fear.
Selene’s eyes widened.
“Th-This is…! Could it be that it made the key itself by directly absorbing the royal blood…?”
“I-is that even possible?”
“I-I don’t know, but that’s the only explanation I can think of…──!”
“Ooooooooooooo!”
Halfway through Selene’s words, the machine soldier took a big step forward.
It fixed itself in the ruined castle, burying its lower body, and pointed its main cannon in a distant direction.
“Is it measuring the trajectory…?”
“I-it’s like it has a will of its own…!”
Selene gasped at the sight.
“I see, now I finally understand why the Nayuta Empire, which boasted of its advanced technology, was destroyed… This is the true identity of the great catastrophe that destroyed the ancient Nayuta Empire in a single night… The ancient Nayuta Empire was destroyed by the rampage of the machine soldier!”
“What did you say? So the Nayuta Empire was destroyed by the weapons they created themselves?”
Lexia’s voice trailed off, and Luna gritted her teeth.
“I see, that’s it… the machine soldier was broken long ago. That’s why the few surviving Nayuta people sealed the machine soldier in a stone altar and protected it for generations, never allowing it to be activated…”
“Eek, help, help me…!”
Douglas’ power is absorbed, and the main cannon fills with a black light.
“Do-Douglas-san!”
“If this continues, he’ll die from his energy being absorbed…!”
The power absorbed by the main cannon begins to leak out, and it begins to crackle with black lightning.
“No, the lightning cannon…!”
Lexia screams.
It was clearly on a completely different scale than anything they had seen before.
A tremendous amount of heat swirled around the cannon’s muzzle, and even the space itself seemed to creak.
“If that thing is fired, not only this country, but the whole world will be destroyed…!”
“Ooooooooooooooooo!”
A dark light swelled at the back of the muzzle.
Luna stepped back from the heat.
“T-that terrible heat…! Will it take the world with it…?”
“N-no way… Is everything we’ve done… all for nothing…?”
Selene’s voice was hoarse from her dry throat.
There was nothing left.
She stood there, looking up at the roaring machine soldier.
Just as the faces of Luna and the others were about to turn to despair.
“I won’t let you destroy the world!”
“Le-Lexia-san…?”
Lexia stared at the machine soldier with her jade-green eyes.
Her golden hair fluttered in the hot, swirling wind.
“We have a future! There is a ‘future’ we haven’t met yet! We can’t lose to something that’s a relic of the past───!”
In an instant, a transparent wave spread out from Lexia.
The clear wind enveloped the area, and the machine soldier let out a shriek-like roar.
“Ooooooooooooooo…!”
“W-what is this wave…!”
“Tito shouted to the astonished Selene.
“This is… the Breath of Light!”
“W-what is the Breath of Light…?
“It’s a special power that Lexia possesses…! She can turn someone who is dominated by a negative emotion back to normal…!”
“Wha…? Lexia-san has that kind of power…?”
Luna blocked the blinding light with her arm.
“Yes, on this journey, we’ve been saved countless times by Lexia’s Breath of Light! But…!”
“Ooooooh, ooooooh…!”
The machine soldier strained every ounce of its strength against the invisible waves, writhing madly as it fired its lightning cannon.
The lightning cannon let out an eerie roar that made their skin tingle.
Lexia’s slender shoulders trembled slightly as she faced an enemy that was far too powerful.
“(If we lose here, the world will be destroyed… the important scenery, the people I love, the history and activities that everyone has built one by one, everything…──!)”
The overwhelming heat of despair made her legs weak.
“Ooooooooooooooooooo!”
A terrible hot wind swept in with the roar of the machine soldier, and the Breath of Light was shaken.
“N-no, at this speed…”
Lexia was about to lose her composure.
“Lexia!”
“Lexia-san!”
A warm hand was placed on her shaking back.
“Luna, Tito…!”
Luna and Tito stood side by side, supporting Lexia.
“It’s okay, Lexia-san. You’re not alone… we’re here for you!”
“You have saved us many times with your power. Now it’s our turn to support you.”
Luna narrowed her blue eyes and smiled at Lexia.
“It’s not like you to be so weak. It will be okay, you can do it. There’s nothing to be afraid of…use all the power you have!”
“Yeah!”
Her jade-colored eyes flashed.
She glared at the machine soldier and shouted at it.
“That’s right, there’s no way we’re going to lose here! We’ll definitely protect the world───!”
The Breath of Light that was about to be overwhelmed by the power of the swelled with a roar.
“Th-This is…! Lexia-san’s power is even stronger than before…!”
Selene leaned forward involuntarily.
The blinding light engulfed the machine soldier.
“Oooo, oooo, ooooooooooooo…!”
With a piercing scream, it looked up to the sky.
The evil light in its eyes disappeared, and soon, cracks appeared all over its body──.
Crack! Crack, crack, crack!
“Oooooooooooooooo…!”
The main cannon collapsed, and black light was emitted.
Next, the huge stone body collapsed and fell.
SWOOSH…!
“T-the machine soldier…!”
A large amount of dust rose, and silence descended.
After the dust settled.
There was no trace of the ancient weapon, only a pile of old, worn stones.
Before this scene, Selene stood dumbfounded.
“This is the special power that Lexia-san possesses… I never thought she would even be able to stop the ancient weapon from going out of control…!”
“Ah…”
“Lexia!”
Luna supported Lexia, who was about to collapse.
“Hah, hah… the machine soldier…”
“Ah, it’s completely collapsed. Well done, Lexia.”
“Lexia-san…!”
Selene also rushed over and took Lexia’s hand.
“…W-what an amazing power, to really save the world…! How can I ever thank you enough…!”
As Selene stammered, Lexia looked at her and shook her head.
“No, it’s thanks to everyone. There’s nothing we, the strongest and most beautiful of us, can’t do!”
At that moment, Tito appeared from inside, carrying Douglas, who had fainted.
“Douglas-san is safe! I managed to pull him out just before the machine soldier collapsed!”
Lexia’s face lit up.
“That’s good! He’ll have to think long and hard about what he did from now on!”
Selene laughs at Lexia, who has a mischievous look in her eye.
The four of them, having won the decisive battle for the world, let the sound of high-fives echo in the blue sky.
***
“W-what…!”
At the same time, in the royal castle of the Kingdom of Arcelia.
The participants of the royal council, who had witnessed the whole thing, let out half-crazed exclamations of admiration.
“Th-Those girls stopped the ancient weapon…!”
“I can’t believe it, they saved the world with only four people! What power…!”
“And what was that mysterious power that Lexia-dono unleashed?!”
“Arnold-sama! Did you see Lexia-dono’s heroic figure…!”
Arnold slumped in his chair, his shoulders shaken by Owen.
“Le-Lexia… I’m so glad you’re safe…”
Laila was moved to tears as she watched the four people laughing in the video.
“Oh, thank goodness!”
Xiaolin and Giselle also held hands and rejoiced.
“Lexia-san and the others are amazing!”
“Yes! How brave they all are!”
“It’s incredible to actually save the world.”
Flora speaks in a husky voice, and Noel smiles and nods.
“Yes. We were prepared for a magic defense in case of an emergency, but it wasn’t necessary. Still, I’m curious about the structure of this ancient weapon. I’d definitely like to study it.”
The conference room was filled with thunderous applause and cheers.
“Princess Lexia of the Kingdom of Arcelia is so wonderfully talented! I have never seen a princess so brave!”
“And the exploits of her companions were truly like witnessing the birth of a legend!”
“I had heard that Princess Diana of the Kingdom of Rastel had been missing for many years, but I never imagined that she would return in such a way… And with that power, the Kingdom of Rastel will be safe with Princess Diana!”
“If it weren’t for them, the world would have been destroyed by now! They are the unsung heroes that saved the world!”
Owen smiled at Arnold in the midst of the uproarious cheers that shook the royal castle.
“Arnold-sama…”
“Ah…”
Arnold stammered, his eyes narrowing with pride.
“As I expected from my pride and joy.”
“Yes…!”
Owen nods deeply and rubs Arnold’s back as if to calm him, and then Arnold says,
“…But that’s it. My heart can’t take much more of this! Come home quickly, Lexia──!”
Arnold’s anguished cry echoed throughout the castle of the Kingdom of Arselia.
