Book 8 Chapter 29 - Three Immortal Venerables
Book 8 Chapter 29 - Three Immortal Venerables
As the blood-tinged sun of the Asura Realm rose into the sky once more, the Heitian Asura King, leading his entire army, launched his fourth massive attack on the gates of the Underworld.
In the morning sunlight, the colossal Heitian Asura King, leading an army of Asuras like a surging tide, slowly approached the gates of the Underworld.
“Form ranks!”
The leader responsible for guarding the gates commanded his underworld officials, some of whom pounded the alarm drums until they shook the heavens.
The gates opened, and a line of gate-guarding ghost generals led their underworld army out to meet the Heitian Asura King’s army head-on. Meanwhile, many more powerful underworld officials began to form formations on the battlefield, creating layers of illusions to hinder the Asuras’ advance.
But the Asuras’ attack came swiftly and fiercely. This time, the Asuras leading the army were even stronger. The previously dominant gatekeeper ghost generals, fighting them head-on, were instead suppressed, suffering heavy casualties in the chaotic and indecisive battle.
Suddenly, a cloud of mist surged in, enveloping the entire battlefield. The underworld officials had completed their formation, and strange phenomena appeared within the mist.
Countless terrifying monsters emerged from the clouds, fighting the Asuras. Then, countless dragons, phoenixes, tigers, and leopards galloped and flew, spewing flames and manipulating lightning, attacking the Asura army.
The Asuras were entangled by the monsters. These illusory monsters, originally born from the mist, actually left fatal wounds on them. The flames, gales, and lightning released by the divine beasts, when they struck the ground, actually created massive explosions and shockwaves.
Some Asuras, possessed by demons, suddenly went mad, as if seeing terrifying things, attacking wildly and injuring many of their companions.
Just then, the Heitian Asura King, standing in the center of the Asura army, suddenly raised his six arms. Eyes sprouted from the center of his palms, and he used these divine eyes to emit light, sweeping across the surrounding area, instantly dispelling the illusions created by the underworld officials.
“Underworld brats!”
Black Heaven laughed loudly.
“Faced with me now, your illusions are nothing but a joke!”
He stepped forward, and the eyes in his six palms opened and closed, releasing several more beams of incredibly powerful light, killing all the demon generals entangled with his Asuras.
“You have no chance!”
Heitian roared, striding forward, shaking the mountains and rivers. Reaching the pass, he opened his third eye on his forehead, unleashing a fire dragon that instantly scorched the city gate into molten iron.
“Quickly, go and tell Li Venerable and Ran Venerable!”
Seeing this, the underworld officer in charge at the pass shouted hastily.
“I had already sent send a messenger to tell them! But the messenger hasn’t returned yet!”
His subordinate replied.
“What?”
The officer hesitated, then asked again:
“Then quickly go and fetch Deputy General Xue Ling!”
“Deputy General Xue Ling’s deployment and he himself have both vanished!”
Shortly after, the subordinate reported again.
“What?”
The underworld commander was both anxious and furious.
“Usually pampered and high above, they all run away at this crucial moment? Damn it, immortals? Bah!”
He glanced at the Heitian Asura King wreaking havoc outside the pass and drew the iron chain from his waist.
“You all go back and inform the Fire Venerable and King Yama, asking them to send reinforcements to protect the entrance to the Underworld. The rest of you, stay here with me and guard this place!”
The underworld officials responded in unison, while the commander charged towards the Heitian Asura King. His spiritual body surged with power, and a vast ocean of spiritual energy surged, encircling a central continent. The raging torrents burst forth from his body, transforming into layers of illusions that struck the Black Heaven.
“Rebellious ghost!”
He roared:
“Under the ironclad laws of the Underworld, do not be so arrogant!”
The two clashed, their powerful energies colliding, creating a frenzied surge on the battlefield before the pass.
Although the underworld officials fought valiantly, the Asuras had been strangely strengthened, currently overwhelming them in both numbers and individual strength.
The situation was similar for the Heitian Asura King and the underworld official commander. While the commander was also a powerful ghost immortal at the Canghai realm, he was only at the mid-stage of the Canghai realm, whereas the Heitian Asura King’s strength had been enhanced to the Great Perfection of the Canghai realm, only a step away from the Reincarnation realm of the Immortal Venerable level.
In the intense battle, the underworld official commander’s immortal power quickly dwindled, while the Heitian Asura King’s energy remained inexhaustible. He quickly fell into a disadvantageous position, and in a moment of carelessness, he was struck by the Heitian Asura King’s demonic eye, instantly petrifying from his limbs onwards.
“I respect you as a worthy opponent!”
The Heitian Asura King laughed heartily, casting two more beams of demonic light upon the underworld official commander’s spirit.
“So you stay here and watch, watch me raze this pass you guarded!”
He led his army forward. Suddenly, two streaks of light, one black and one green, flashed across the sky.
“It’s Li Venerable and Ran Venerable!”
The underworld officials’ morale soared, and they launched a counterattack. The underworld commander, whose body was gradually being petrified, breathed a sigh of relief.
It was his spirit that was petrified. As long as his soul remained, he could abandon this spirit body at any time; he could simply start cultivating again from scratch.
Most importantly, the appearance of the two underworld lords meant that the pass had been held. The Heitian Asura King was still one step away from the Reincarnation Realm; he was utterly powerless against an Immortal Lord.
The two streaks of light transformed into the figures of two Immortal Lords. An incomparably terrifying aura emanated from these two beings, oppressing the entire battlefield. The halos behind their heads slowly rotated, their gazes sweeping across the battlefield, but they made no move.
“What’s going on?”
The underworld officials were utterly bewildered, but suddenly they saw Li Venerable, with a black halo behind his head, raise his hand and unleash a palm strike towards the gate of the Underworld.
The force of the palm strike formed a terrifying, pitch-black sun in the air, which crashed to the ground, blasting a massive breach in the sturdy gate of the Underworld.
The Asuras cheered and surged into the gate, overwhelming the desperately resisting underworld officials. The underworld commander, his body being petrified, with only his head still movable, glared at the sky and demanded:
“Li Venerable? Why?!”
Li Venerable withdrew his hand, placing it behind his back, clearly disdainful of answering his question.
But the next moment, a beam of black light suddenly pierced through the battlefield, striking Li Venerable heavily. Caught off guard, the halo behind Li Venerable’s head nearly shattered, and he flew away, spitting blood.
“Let me tell you why.”
A thicker layer of mist silently enveloped the entire battlefield. Xue Ling’s figure emerged from the mist, his chains dragging on the ground with a chilling sound.
A hazy halo gathered behind his head, ethereal and dreamlike, like a reflection in water, indistinct and hard to discern.
Following the mist, he arrived at the front of the formation, looking up at the Ran Venerable in the sky and the Li Venerable who had returned to the air, and coldly said:
“Li Venerable and Ran Venerable, you have betrayed the Underworld, colluded with a great enemy, and violated the ironclad laws of the Underworld. According to the law, your cultivation should be abolished, and you should be imprisoned in the eighteenth level of hell, never to be reincarnated!”
