Chapter 364: Watch How You Speak To My Wife!
Kassie’s feet collided with the ball and, for a moment, halted it.
The ball wheeled against her metal boots, releasing frightening sparks that flew around. For a moment there was a stall. Then Kassie whipped her leg forward, tearing the cannonball away from its path and sending it back to where it came from.
The obsidian ball whipped back against all odds and the next moment smashed into a section of the wall’s battlement, scattering it in a shockwave of debris and stone.
My mouth opened in awe and for a moment I was literally frozen... frozen from head to toe.
’Go, Kassie.’
She placed her leg down and stood on the wing of the aircraft. Despite her weight — the weight that I knew was the center of her combat style — she didn’t seem to burden that side of the wing.
Nightfall gained stability and slowly drifted down, although with one side slanted and rushing downward.
Meanwhile, Kassie stood indifferent to the slanted form of the aircraft and its supposed imbalance.
I vanished and appeared beside her, looking where she was looking.
’So... what now?’
She extended her hand sideways and sparks began to fly around it.
"We assist your boss."
That macabre obsidian and crimson greatsword manifested in her arms, extending twice the length of the wingspan we were both standing on.
She slung it onto her shoulder and vanished with a jolt of force from her feet. She lifted herself off like a feather, yet flew forward with the force of a fired bullet.
’Just when I think I’ve seen it all... you keep showing me new things. Just how powerful are you?’
It felt like Kassie’s knowledge of combat was as vast as the ocean. And something made me feel like even if she were placed against my summons together, she might still come out on top through sheer combat knowledge.
’How fascinating that she hasn’t even been able to use her skills because I have no army...’
Then again, who was to say I wouldn’t get a summon far stronger than Kassie sometime in the future?
I vanished in the wake of a white feather, and the next place I appeared was above that particular turret that had fired immediately after the flood of flames. While everyone was reeling, the thing had somehow recovered so quickly... there was only its handler to blame for that.
Beneath me was a bulwark of a man with a face no different from a stone sculpture. In fact, his entire bronze skin looked as if it had been carved from stone.
He grabbed the turret and, with a screeching sound of metal and tightening muscles, ripped the massive spear-like barrel away from the wall, spun it, and sent it flying toward me as I descended from the sky.
’What in the...’
I belatedly sent whips of chain flying out from me, each one latching onto the approaching turret. I used its force to angle my momentum and hurl myself forward, spinning the chain while gritting my teeth before sending it back toward the wall.
The turret crashed into the wall and exploded, sending stone and force alike scattering.
A moment later, I landed and straightened, feeling a tight sensation in my chest, almost as if I couldn’t breathe through my lungs.
’Damnit! How the hell did that bastard throw that damn thing?’
If it felt this heavy even when I had to use my essence as hands, what would it have been like using my actual hands?!
Just as I was trying to recover my breath, someone exploded through the debris and aimed a blow at me.
My eyes widened, and if it had been before yesterday night, I was sure I never would have been able to dodge the strike with such intense speed.
However, I vanished from him, leaving a spray of feathers. Instantly, I appeared behind him, already twirling.
As he turned with a shocked expression, I landed a brutal kick against his cheek, crushing his neck.
His entire body bounced on the ground and cracked the battlement before rolling away lazily.
Then I straightened my back, frowning grimly at the man.
All around me was drenched in the cacophony of chaos. Smoke rolled toward the sky, flames roared like mighty beasts, and beneath it all were the valiant and despairing cries of people mixing together to paint the world here in devastating dread.
The man was fully erect now. He held his neck and twisted it back into place, then gave me a vile glare with his ugly, stone-carved face.
"What atrocity is this? Who dares against the Great Crystal Deep? Were you people sent by that vile scum?"
I had already opened my hand, and when Frostfang appeared, I extended the chilling sword toward him and warned in a dangerous tone.
"Hey, watch how you speak to my wife."
"Uh?" His face twisted with confusion for a moment.
But I didn’t give him any chance for a follow-up statement. The moment I spoke, I bolted forward and brought Frostfang down on him.
He blocked with his hand, his skin tightening so hard that it felt like nothing could pierce it.
’Tch... annoying.’
I tore away from him, ducked a blow he sent toward my head while spinning at the same time to slash at his waist.
But he was sharp-witted... and easily caught the blade of the sword in his hand.
I smirked.
"I would have been disappointed if you were any slower, especially with the speed you showed just now."
His eyes went wide for a moment, but it was too late.
The frost on the blade spread to his hand. He yanked his hand away as fast as he could.
And my leg hurtled forward. I brought my elbow against his face in that fragile moment of distraction, grabbed his head, and slammed it down toward my knee.
He brought both of his hands up to guard his face, his movement disappointingly fast.
"Gosh, am I so predictable?"
I had already sent Frostfang back to my soul, and what actually met him was a slap of white flames that consumed his entire head.
