Chapter 428: Band For Band
Chapter 428: Band For Band
For a moment after speaking he looked at me with pure disgust.
Then he raised his hand and held it there. Holding his axe with an offended look about him.
I spread the white of my teeth.
“What? Hurts badly?”
He forced a grin.
“You have no idea.”
Immediately his hand flew around my neck like a cord; before I could pull out of it, I was locked in the bastard’s grip. Of course, naturally, I intended to use Feather Step. But it did not activate.
My eyes narrowed.
In the same breath, his second axe was already falling over my head. It was hurrying over, coming to tear into my back, and there was nothing I could do to escape this bastard’s grip. Despite how much I had trained and how much I thought I had grown in strength, it was almost shameful to realize that he was still stronger than me.
As the axe swung down, almost connected to my back. Between that space, a small dot of flames appeared; I compressed it as largely as I could afford to at the moment, and instantly detonated it. The force of the explosion drove the axe away, and in a strong, assertive manner tore me and Altharion apart, throwing us far away from each other.
He rolled away on the ground but soon floated like it was any normal day and landed on his feet. While I simply vanished and reappeared on my feet.
We locked gaze on each other from each end of the forest.
Altharion clenched his hands around that axe and the air about him changed in a very off-putting manner.
Before I could process any of that properly, he bolted towards me.
All I had seen was white speed. He simply tore through the distance with an impossible speed and was already airborne, one axe, swinging from behind and coming to cleave me. The other’s position was hidden and quite unknown, but watching his combat style for the past few minutes, I knew that he was a sly and cunning fighter. He wanted to take my mind away from the second. The first was merely a damn bait.
One chain flew out of my body and took the heavy power of the attack. A vicious, thunderous sound of metal against metal tore out and seemed to assault even the cold night.
Altharion looked at the chain, his white hair flowing with the wind. His eyes frozen for a brief moment.
His gaze shifted to where Lady Ilse was sitting in a lotus. White Feather was there before her, shielding her while she recovered.
In the same quick second, his eyes drifted back over. And the second axe revealed itself from underneath him. He drove his hand in an impossible reverse swing from below.
The only option was to let him go. I released another chain from within me, slammed against the second axe to kill its dangerous momentum while at the same time, I exploded away with intense speed, somersaulting through the air and landing in a backward stagger.
This bastard’s speed was atrocious and absurd.
As I landed and staggered back, he dashed through the distance leaving only a streak of light. He appeared in front of me and just as I staggered, pushed my chest.
It seemed like a slight push. But the pain that was across my torso suddenly exploded with intense pain. Before the impact could tear me off my feet, I latched two chains to him and grinned like a madman.
“Bon voyage, motherfucker. I’m going nowhere without you.”
My body flew away and so did he. The chain swept him off his feet and slammed him against everywhere, against the trees, the snow, swinging him into the air and slamming him down as I slammed my back through trees before finally rolling on the cold white of the ground.
Now, my entire body was burning with different pain. But I bit down my teeth and slowly raised myself up, first leaning on my knees, and managing to catch a few breaths before standing.
He was walking out of the forest as I swayed on my feet.
“First flames of divinity, now chains marked with divinity.” He glanced backward. “While that is clearly your summon, that is not divinity. So it really brings me to ask the question, my friend. Where…. Did you get those flames?”
He tilted his head slightly, looking at me with a weird arrogance.
“Do you have another summon? A Divine Summon?”
I thought about it myself.
‘A divine summon? Do I have a divine summon?’
I observed Maggie closely; could she pass for a Divine Summoner? No, Maggie was human; if there was anyone who had a Divine Summon, it would have been White Feather. Which was even more surprising that the attributes I received from her were not working when I entered this son of a warthog’s sphere of defense.
That sphere that kept negating everything.
I shook my head and returned my gaze to him, letting out a spiteful smile.
“Why should I let you know that… did you come here to chat or to fight? To me, all you have been doing for the past few minutes is chatting and chatting.”
A short laugh escaped from his lips.
“Oh, you won’t admit the fact that I’ve been handing out your own ass to you?”
My gaze darkened.
‘This bastard…’
The grin on his face got more annoying.
“Okay, you know what? Since it seems that you are confused about a lot of things and seem to think you have a chance of victory because of how much I’ve been lenient with you, let me step things up. Call upon your summon, my friend, let’s do this the proper way.”
As he said this, he was already dismissing his axe.
Suddenly, I heard from behind me, Lady Ilse’s loud shout.
“RUN! RIGHT NOW, RUNNNNN!!!”
I didn’t of course quickly register with what she was asking of me. What I knew was that of a certain, this bastard was finally about to unleash his summon.
I really should have listened to her.
