To start, after bringing up the whole matsutake conversation and seeing how much Kaori-san seemed to want some, I contacted her via hummingbird to share a bit with her.

Today should be her shop’s day off, so there was a chance it wouldn’t be convenient. I checked first, and she replied right away that there was no problem even if I came immediately, so we agreed I’d visit her shop at 10.

For now, the wooden box Alice gave me can hold around 10 pieces, so giving her 10 as a share should be fine.

(T/N: Just searched, matsutakes apparently have 5-20cm caps wide and sturdy stems 4-16cm long. Can apparently grow larger and thicker than that, sometimes over a pound.)

In contrast, the Spirits of the Spear-branched Tree are the type who have almost no interest in anything outside their own habitat.

Lanza-san only began interacting with the outside world because she met Camellia-san and joined the World King’s faction. Before that, she’d apparently been living solely within their territory for tens of thousands of years. Whether it’s good or bad, it seems they’re Spirits whose entire lifestyle is practically self-contained among their own.

Anyway, just to be sure, I used hummingbird to send a message to Lanza-san stating: “This isn’t certain, but if it turns into that kind of arrangement, would it be all right to let me supply them?”

A response came back immediately: “THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM! THE SPEARMUSH I GAVE YOU IS ALREADY YOURS, SO YOU ARE COMPLETELY FREE TO HANDLE THEM HOWEVER YOU WISH!!!”

The text on the hummingbird was ridiculously huge…… Maybe she poured extra magic power in to enlarge the message? How should I say this…… She really is just overflowing with energy.

[……Well, it looks like from now on you’ll probably be able to get Spearmush outside their usual season too.]

A bad feeling ran through me as I watched Alice merrily take out a wine glass and sip wine. If it were something that would harm me, she would stop me beforehand, so that probably isn’t the case.

Most likely, something I did…… turned into something weird, but in a good way.

I see, there really is no downside for me. What Alice is saying is that the Spirits of the Spear-branched Tree’s affection for me will shoot up dramatically, and if I ever want more Spearmush in the future, I might be able to trade Canalis-san’s water for them even outside their harvest season.

But the important part here is this…… Even right now, I’m already in a ridiculous situation where buying 100 gets me 9900 as a freebie. I’ve only just met Lanza-san, yet even then, I already felt like her affection for me was absurdly high…… and now it’s going even higher?

Watching Alice drink wine and cackle like it was the funniest thing in the world, I couldn’t help making a complicated face. No, being liked is a good thing…… but I can’t help feeling a little uneasy.
