I Was Caught up in a Hero Summoning, but That World Is at Peace (WN)

Chapter 2467 - Movie Watching with Kaori ③

The romantic movie I was watching together with Kaori-san came to an end, and the ending credits began to play. Romance movies weren’t something I had many opportunities to watch, or rather, even when they were an option, they were a genre I rarely chose but…… it was more interesting than I had expected.

There wasn’t much of the kind of overly clichéd “passing each other by through misunderstandings” that I had imagined. Instead, the story unfolded at a good pace, and it felt like the bond between the protagonist and the heroine gradually deepened as it went on.

There was no sense of the creators’ intention to forcibly make it tragic just to move the audience, either. It was a straightforward happy ending, neatly wrapped up, and it left me feeling good after finishing it.

[……Mm~, that was fun! Watching a movie after so long really is the best.]

[It was interesting enough to become a topic of conversation. I don’t really watch romance movies, but it was quite absorbing, so I’m glad we watched it.]

[Well, it’s certainly a genre women tend to prefer more than men. But I’m glad you enjoyed it…… though, when it came to choosing the movie, it kind of ended up with me pushing my preference……]

Kaori-san said that with a wry smile, but it wasn’t as if she had forcefully pushed a romance movie on me. Rather, she’d been considerate of me, asking beforehand things like “Would an action movie be better?”

It was just that she clearly seemed like she wanted to watch the romance movie that came up, so it ended up being me who suggested watching it.

[Honestly, if it were just me, it’s not something I’d normally choose, so thanks to watching it together with you, Kaori-san, I feel like I lucked out by discovering an interesting movie. The story was more refreshing than I expected, too, and it wasn’t overly messy or blatantly trying to make you cry, which was nice.]

[There sure are a lot of works like that huh. You know, the really clichéd ones where, around the middle, the heroine suddenly finds out she has an illness, and you immediately realize “Ah, this is going to end with them being separated by death”. They’re fun in their own way, and in a sense they feel like the classic formula, but…… personally, I like happy endings. Those merry bad endings do move you, but after finishing them, they leave you feeling pretty heavy……]

[Yeah, sad endings or bitter endings do stick in your memory, and of course there are works that are so interesting you want to watch them again, but… I also prefer happy endings, since they leave you feeling better afterward.]

[Unn, unn. In that sense too, this movie really was good. I’m close in age to the heroine, so there were a lot of scenes I could really empathize with, and toward the end, I even teared up a bit.]

Exchanging impressions after finishing a movie is supposed to be one of the real pleasures of watching one together…… well, so I heard. Since going to see movies with my parents back in elementary school, I hadn’t really watched one together with anyone, but now that my conversation with Kaori-san was getting so lively, that had to be true.

[Come to think of it, the couple in the movie had about the same age gap as us.]

[Oh, right, Kaito-kun, you’re a university student, right?]

[Well, I already dropped out, so technically a former one……]

[I’ve never gone to university, so I don’t really know…… are the depictions of university in movies pretty accurate?]

[Hmmm, I think it depends on the university. For example, at the university I went to, there was a shop that sold textbooks and stationery, but there wasn’t one like the one in the movie that sold food and drinks. Instead, there was a convenience store right near the university, so we bought drinks and food there.]

[Ahh~, I see. If there’s a convenience store nearby, that does make sense.]

[Apparently, there are universities that even have convenience stores inside the campus.]

[Hehh~, I guess you could expect pretty stable sales, so from the convenience store’s side it might be good…… though there might be issues with staffing……]

Since there were still snacks we’d bought left over, I chatted idly with Kaori-san while drinking tea. Maybe because we’d just finished an enjoyable movie and were still riding that high, it felt like our conversation was livelier and more fun than usual.

[……The movie was really interesting, but I guess the downside is that watching one makes a lot of time pass.]

[Yeah, that one was about an hour and a half.]

[It’s around lunchtime, are you hungry, Kaito-kun? I can make something.]

[Ah, well, since you’re offering…… we did eat some snacks, so I’m not that hungry. Something light would be fine.]

[Leave it to me then. I’ll make some sandwiches.]

[Oh, I’ll help.]

[Now that won’t do, maybe you should leave this to the professional. It’s not a dish that takes much effort, so don’t worry about it and just relax while you wait.]

After saying that with a gentle smile, Kaori-san went into the kitchen and put on an apron. Somehow, she seemed to be in an even better mood than usual, cooking with an air of cheerful enjoyment.

<Afterword>

Serious-senpai : [……Midday…… r- right, Kaito went to Kaori’s shop around 10, then went to Olivia’s place and came back, and even after watching a movie it’s still only a little past noon…… which means…… this arc…… isn’t over yet?]
