Chapter 2479 - Movie Watching with Kaori ⑮

I’m on a business trip tomorrow so I won’t be updating tomorrow.

Kaori had been thrown into confusion by the abrupt turn of events, but thanks to her natural ability to switch gears quickly, she pulled her thoughts back together.

(C- Calm down…… I’m a woman who’s seen plenty of romance stories. I may have zero real experience, but I’ve got knowledge…… This pattern is that one! The other person has absolutely no ulterior motive, and if I panic and overreact, I’ll just jump to conclusions and embarrass myself! Just now, Kaito-kun looked thoughtful while reading hummingbird’s reply and then asked whether I wanted to stay over, so……)

Drawing on the romance stories she’d consumed so far, and judging from Kaito’s personality that he probably had no hidden intentions, Kaori tilted her head slightly and asked,

[When you say “stay over”, you mean me staying at Kaito-kun’s place, right?]

[Yes. I just got a message from Illness-san asking whether we should prepare a guest room if Kaori-san is staying over, so……]

[Ahh, I see……]

Listening to Kaito’s explanation, it seemed that when he’d asked Illness to prepare dinner, she’d inquired whether a guest room was needed, and that was why he’d brought it up to Kaori.

(Well, if I had to nitpick, maybe think a bit more about the order you explain things in!? I mean, I know Kaito-kun has absolutely no ulterior motive…… but still, somehow that makes it feel a little unsatisfying too…… Normally, when a guy suggests an overnight stay to a girl his age, wouldn’t he at least think about the possibility of something happening? No, I know Kaito-kun isn’t that kind of person, and I know I’m being selfish here, but part of me wants him to see me as a woman just a little……)

To begin with, the plan was for her to stay in a guest room, not in Kaito’s own room. Even so, the fact that he gave off an air of having zero ulterior motives was reassuring, yet at the same time left her with a faint sense of dissatisfaction. A maiden’s heart certainly is complicated.

(……I won’t say it out loud, but there is a chance, you know. I like Kaito-kun enough that if he seriously pushed, I’d probably end up going along with it. I know full well how unreasonable I’m being, but at least let me complain a little in my own head…… Wait, no, that’s not the point. First I need to decide whether I’m staying or not……)

Realizing her thoughts were drifting in a strange direction, Kaori temporarily tucked away the part of her maiden’s heart that was overreacting to romance and brought her focus back to the matter at hand.

[If you’ve got your shop to worry about and it’s difficult, then please don’t feel pressured……]

[Ahh, no, the prep is already done, and my place only opens from lunchtime, so that’s not a problem at all.]

All the preparations for the set-meal shop were already finished, and the dishes were stored in the magic box, so staying over itself posed no issue.

(As for clothes, I can just go back and get them once with my teleportation magic tool, so that’s fine. If I stay over, I could probably watch two more movies, which is nice, and more than anything, there’s something really appealing about this…… something that makes my expectations rise.)

After thinking for a moment, Kaori’s expression turned serious as she asked Kaito,

[……Kaito-kun, there’s something I want to ask…… The bath at your place…… is it big?]

[It’s ridiculously spacious.]

[T- Then, would it be okay if I stayed over……? To be honest, I really wanted to soak in a big bath.]

[Ahh, baths are magic tools too, so they’re certainly rather expensive.]

[Exactly. As a Japanese, I can’t live without a bath, so I pushed myself and bought one…… but it’s not very big. I can’t fully stretch my legs or anything. Even if I bought a new one, there’s the issue of space in the house, and remodeling just for the sake of a bath feels a bit much…… So I’ve been wanting to get into a big bath. You know, there aren’t many hot springs in this world…… I mean, they do exist, but they’re all really far away, like in remote frontier areas, so going there is a hassle.]

[Yeah, now that you mention it, I’ve heard hot springs are pretty minor here.]

Just as Kuromueina had mentioned before when they were making bath additives, that hot springs were a minor thing, hot springs were indeed relatively uncommon. All of them were located far from the friendly city where Kaori lived, so she’d rarely had the chance to soak in a spacious bath.

[There aren’t many public bathhouses either, I guess?]

[A lot of people are fine with just a shower, and even those who want a bath can usually buy one themselves if they stretch their budget a bit, even if it’s a magic tool, like I did when I first opened my shop. So there probably isn’t much demand for public bathhouses? Plus, quite a few people see soaking in a big bath as something from noble culture.]

[Well, they do say the Japanese are obsessed with baths. I guess there’s a difference in sensibilities compared to people in this world.]

[Exactly. So, well…… that’s why. I really want to soak in a big bath, so if Kaito-kun doesn’t mind, I’d love it if you let me stay over.]

[Yes, that’s fine. Then I’ll let Illness-san know to prepare a guest room.]

And so, it was decided that Kaori would be staying one night at Kaito’s house. With the time constraint eased for the moment, once they finished sending messages, Kaito and Kaori started talking about watching one more movie and began choosing what to watch next.
