Side Story: Minya and Her Lies

I lost my home, I lost my mother, and I lost my heart. I lost my pride as an elf, and I lost the will to live.

The dagger Myrril gave me was the thing that saved me, a doll made of broken pieces put back together. I killed the man who killed my mother, and I gained the will to live. I felt strongly that I had to live.

For revenge. So that my people would not suffer the same fate as I did.

The rifle Yoshua gave me changed my life. Myrril and Yoshua (and Yadar, on condition) took me to a higher place, a world of ecstasy.

“Hold on.”

Yoshua’s shift invites me into the void, and the pit of my stomach feels light. It is a time of healing, a time of releasing the soul.

Deep in the battlefield, we had infiltrated the enemy camp. With weapons at the ready, we spread out a bit and went on full alert.

“Yadar on the right wing, Myrril on the left. Minya, you’re with me in the center tent.”

“Roger.”

Yoshua repeated the procedure we had gone over many times before. No one said it wasn’t necessary because they knew it. We know the procedure, so we go through the same steps. It calms us down. It sharpens our minds.

The battle has already begun on the left and right wings. We step into the light at the front and check left and right.

In the tent of the Kingdom Army, there is a nobleman who seems to be the commander and a lieutenant who is a commoner. Since the commander is supposed to be a non-combatant, the lieutenant must also have a role as a bodyguard.

He turns and shoots the lieutenant’s right hand as he tries to draw his sword from a blind spot. If he shoots the hand that was on the hilt of his sword, it will also hit his stomach and cause a fatal wound. It is an inevitable sacrifice. Turning his back on the collapsed lieutenant, he shot the right hand of the commander who was about to ring the bell for an emergency call. In any case, the enemy will be called by the shot, so he could have just let him do as he pleases.

“Gyaaaaahhh…!”

“Now you can’t use your right hand. Go back to your hometown and live quietly.”

This is also a set procedure. The answer is also the same, like a set procedure.

“Don’t be ridiculous. You guys, remember…”

I break the barrel, throw out the shotgun shell, and load a new one.

“You’re the ones who have to remember. We’ll be back. If you’re still here, you won’t be able to use your other hand.”

Whether you gasp, crouch, or have your eyes darting around, it is the same.

The sooner this procedure is over, the better, especially for the commander of a fighting unit. Those who have the strength to fight and have trained themselves to be strong will quickly understand the difference in strength between them and us and realize that resistance is pointless.

“Even so, when we return, we’ll crush your right knee.

The troops currently in the camp are a supply unit, so they don’t have any outstanding warriors among them. They have thin bodies, their weapons are just for show, and their fighting ability is weak.

They’re office soldiers. They may be smart in terms of learning the ways of the world, but they’re stupid in terms of knowing when to quit.

And it was always this type of person who would fill the minds of the demi-human prisoners with sadistic thoughts.

“The pride of the Kingdom Army…”

I sighed when I saw the commander trying to pick up the sword on the desk. The shot also blows off his left hand. Now, he won’t be able to get a real job when he goes back to his hometown.

He won’t be able to handle a calculator, a notebook, or a pen. He won’t be able to handle reins, swords, bows, tools, farm implements, or anything else.

“I’m sorry it ended this way.”

I turn away and lie for the umpteenth time that day. The commander of the supply corps wraps a candlestick around his crushed fingers and rushes toward me, holding it in both hands. He must have thought that if he didn’t take revenge on the despised and scorned half-human girl, he would be disgraced for the rest of his life.

Just by listening to his breathing, I knew what he was going to do. I could have run, or I could have subdued him. It would have been easy to deal with him calmly and safely.

I fired the last bullet into the man’s chest.

“Left, no threat.”

“Right, no threat.”

“Back, no threat.”

My comrades returned. They must know what I did and what I tried to do.

Yadar shook her head slightly when she saw the two bodies that had been shot, which was not what had been planned. I’m lying again, even though I don’t have to.

“They disobeyed the order to surrender.”

“That’s okay. They’re the enemy. Are you hurt?”

I nodded and put the shotgun with the leather strap around my back. This is the end. And then a new revenge will begin.

But for how long?

Suddenly, I feel uneasy. The world is slipping away from me.

“Mirryl?”

“What is it, Minya? I’m right here.”

“Yes.”

“It’s okay. We’re all with you.”

“Yes.”

I take Mirryl’s hands. Her small, soft, warm hands pour a little warmth into my heart.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank us. This is what we want.”

Until now, now and in the future. I will tell many lies. I will kill many people. There is no other way. I will continue to pile up countless lies and take endless revenge, and I will struggle to fill the big hole that has opened in my heart.
