Chapter 224 – (Idle Talk): Miracle, Her and the Twinkling Light

Let’s buy a ring. That day, I made up my mind.

It was not a sudden idea. I had put it off because I didn’t know how to solve all the problems.

A ring that Myrril, a formidable power fighter, gunslinger, and aspiring blacksmith, could wear every day and that would protect her in times of need. Ordinary precious metals might have interfered with Myrril’s wild and aggressive way of life, but now I have a better chance.

“So this is it.”

“What is it?”

This is one of the two jewelry shops in Sarz. The shop is simple and clean, with white as the basic color both inside and out. The owner’s confidence in his craftsmanship can be seen in the fact that he has reduced any waste or ornamentation to a minimum, which is not the usual characteristic of a jewelry store.

“The owner of the jewelry store was very confident in his craftsmanship. Will you buy another spoon?”

“I gave him the spoon already. He seemed to like it very much, but not this time. Lukemon-saaann!”

When I opened the door, a bell rang in the back. This is also a bit too simple and untypical for a jewelry shop, but I guess it’s so they can see who’s coming even when they’re working. It looks like a practical dwarf. I decided to look on the bright side. I wasn’t looking for friendliness or a fancy atmosphere.

“What is it, guys?”

An old man dressed in white appears from the back of the store and blurts out in a tone that is not that of a customer. He is a dwarf with white hair, a white beard, white tops and bottoms, and a small, sturdy-looking body. He is an old man who does not smile at you, but he is a skilled craftsman. If there is a problem, it is that he is a little too skilled.

“You didn’t like the spoon?”

“Not at all. The boy I gave it to was so pleased with it that he never let go of it. The extra gift was a little too much, though.”

The silver spoon given to Simon’s daughter had a small magic stone attached to the handle. It seemed to convert magic power into healing magic and healed Simon’s wife, who had poor post-natal growth, by healing her with miraculous light. She had always been as pretty as an angel, but by sprinkling miracles on her, she seemed to have established herself as an angel.

“It was a good luck charm to ensure that the child would grow up healthy.”

“Yes, she was very healthy. She was full of smiles and healing and blessings for everyone around her.”

“That’s how babies are.”

No, I mean, as an emotional metaphor, yes, but… It’s a real thing. The reaction of the old dwarf who looks like a Tsundere is interesting. Maybe he likes kids more than expected.

Well, that’s not important. I need to talk about the important thing.

“So, you see. I want you to make me a wedding ring today.”

“Wedding ring?”

Myrril-san makes a chicken-like sound behind me, but I don’t pay any attention to it. Regardless of myself, I want her to wear something that will be a talisman, something that will most likely prevent accidents.

“Marriage, ring…?”

“I wonder if you don’t have that custom here. You wear it on the ring finger of your left hand as a sign that you are married.”

“I see. It is a sign that she is your wife. It is not that unusual. It’s more common on bracelets and necklaces than on rings.”

“O-onyaa…”

Looking at Myrril, who is blowing steam with a bright red face with an amused look on her face, the old Lukemon tilts his head.

“But Jou-chan said she doesn’t need anything.”

“Yes. So it is up to me. Not if she needs it or not.”

“Do you have any wishes? For example, I can add the ability to communicate to some extent or to draw each other when separated.”

“I don’t need that because I already communicate with her, and I don’t leave her.”

“Then what is it? Do you need a mere decoration?”

“Yes, that’s right. I want to protect her as much as possible. We’ve gotten into a lot of trouble in the past. Maybe we will continue to do so.”

“Wait, Yoshua, I…”

“I’m sorry, Myrril. I want you to take it. I want you to have it for me.”

She mumbled something about that not being the point, but I’ll save Mir-san’s complaint for later.

“…I don’t see how that’s possible. The question is, how big do you need?”

With a thud, I pull out a large barrel of gold coins. The floor of the shop, which is very sturdy and solid right down to the foundation, creaked.

“It’s all there. You are called the “Miraculous Lukemon,” and I want you to give it all.”

The old Lukemon looked at the barrel and shook his head in dismay.

“There are too many of them. I’m not talking about the money, but the degree of addition. And you don’t know how much the name “miracle” was a disgusting and depressing thing for me, do you? No craftsman would like to be carried on a portable shrine and treated like a tumor.”

“I know. I am not a craftsman, but I am in a similar situation. So this is the amount of money I’ll have to pay for the trouble you’ll have in the future. Furthermore, in the name of the Demon King of Casemaian, I will do whatever you ask me to do.”

He seemed to know who I was and didn’t react much to my claim of being the Demon King. Despite this shop appearance, he might communicate well with the merchant guild.

“If you put it that way, I can’t say I won’t take the job, but… don’t you think you’re overreacting a bit? I don’t know how good the product is, but it’s just a ring, right?”

The old dwarf is stunned, and Myrril laughs.

“This guy considers the southern territories… or at least the city of Sarz, a friend of the Casemaian now. Of course, so do I. The money was not paid for the ring itself but for an investment in the future of the Republic and the Casemaian.”

“All I can do is forge.”

“I am aware of that. Don’t worry; the Demon King’s choice is a sure thing. He has never been wrong.”

You talk too much, Mir-neesan. Besides, you are the first rehearsal, and you want to tell me that I have no problem with it, don’t you?

“Hmm.”

Old Lukemon let out a breath at the sight of us and burst into laughter. It was the kind of laugh that is typical for dwarves.

Then he looked at us. Both Myrril and I could clearly see that the atmosphere had changed dramatically. It was a hard, dense spirit that resembled Myrril’s total murderous intent.

“You say interesting things, don’t you?”

He had a smile that made my skin crawl, and his eyes shone brightly. If he had been like that when he was active, it would have been a problem for everyone around him. I’m sure there were some people who turned him into a portable shrine and kept him away from the field, but that’s fine with me.

It was a good thing for me.

“That is all right. Let me show you what this old man can do.

We were kicked out of the store with just a “Give me two days.” The storefront is closed, and the shutters are politely closed. I feel like I’ve set something great on fire, but at the same time, I’m incredibly excited.

Two days later, two rings were placed in front of us. On the counter of Lukemon’s shop. A simple wooden box with a nondescript cloth on it, claiming with all his might that “the container is unimportant.” It was as if he was confident that I would not put it back in the box once I wore the ring.

Instead, the ring was filled with a frightening amount of power. At first glance, the ring was just a silver ring. There was only a very small magic stone embedded in it. However, the overall brilliance was strange.

It emitted such a dazzling light that one might think it was naturally luminous.

“This is great, but isn’t it hard to do?”

“It’s not good enough to go out fighting or scouting at night.”

With his skin so dry that it looks like he has run out of energy, and his beard, clothes, and even his complexion white, Old Man Lukemon looks like he is vomiting ectoplasm from his mouth and laughing.

“Don’t be stupid. There is no way that I would ever create such a poor product.”

The old man waved his hand to keep Myrril from picking it up when we were told to try it on.

“What are you doing, Demon King? If you’re not going to put it on your wife’s hand, what are you going to do with it?”

I’m sorry, I’ve never been married, so I didn’t know. I picked up the smaller ring and took Myrril’s hand.

“…C-come now, my dear. Be my queen…”

“No need for that. Just leave the love stuff alone. Just put it on.”

I was criticized again. I don’t know anything about that. Oh well.

I slip the ring onto Myrril’s trembling finger, which is now shaking with excitement. Strangely enough, the sparkling light suddenly fades to a calm, pale red. It doesn’t smolder or darken. If you look closely, you can see the pale glow shimmering along with her heartbeat.

“This is amazing.”

Myrril exhales with an ecstatic look on her face.

“There is no feeling of discomfort when you wear it. It’s a strange feeling like something has fallen into place exactly where it should be.”

“Hmph.”

For some reason, old man Lukemon snorted with an “I can’t stand it” look on his face. What was that?

“If that’s the case, it means the feeling is mutual. Let’s not talk about it; it’s embarrassing.”

I don’t know what it was, but it seemed to prove that we were in love. Next, Myrril slipped another ring into my hand. The same sparkle faded to a pale sky-blue glow. I could see a cloud-like pattern flowing slowly across the shiny surface of the mirror.

“It is a color like you. It is neither too hot nor too cold, like the sky on a pleasant day.

Is that so? I don’t know.

But it is certainly a strange feeling. It felt more natural than before I put it on as if something I had lost had come back to me, as if I was in constant contact with something warm.

“Well, I hope you will be happy. And I hope that your happiness will lead to everyone’s happiness.

The pastor-like comment sent us out of the store, and we each held our rings up to the sun as we walked, our mouths relaxed and smiling.

“It’s beautiful…it’s really a wonderful color.”

The pale red is mixed with shimmering crimson whenever Myrril smiles. The color of the surface seems to change with the excitement of her emotions. Each color is bright and clear, perfect for Myrril.

Unable to go straight back to the inn, we head for the central park in Sarz, which is crowded with people. It was a beautiful sunny day, and families were enjoying the sunshine.

“Yoshua, I am happy.”

“No, I just wanted to make it official that we are married. I’m sorry it took so long. I didn’t know how to do it here, and it was a bit of a mess.”

“If I had a complaint, it would be that.”

I turned at the sound of slight disapproval in her voice. Myrril looked at me with a very serious face.

“You say you’re getting me into trouble. This is not a problem for either of us, Yoshua. This is between the two of us.”

“Yes, I know, I know. That’s what I’m trying to convey, and I’m very grateful for that. It is also true that I could not have survived without Myrril. But sometimes I think, if you hadn’t met me, you wouldn’t have to live like this. If you hadn’t met me, you’d have more…”

The hand on my chest pulls me closer, stopping me from saying more. The ring on her fingers glows red. Myrril’s eyes are also filled with quiet intent.

“There is no need to say more. There are things you can forgive and things you can’t, no matter how much you know.”

“But.”

“If I had not met you in the royal capital at that time, I would have died. Even if my body had survived, my mind would have decayed. So, the story ends there. There are no ifs or buts. I am here because I met you. I have no regrets, and I have the greatest happiness in the world.

Aren’t you? I murmured in an inaudible whisper.

“That goes without saying.”

“You seem so worldly in your strange way, but you don’t understand the important things, do you? That’s what the girls want to hear.”

I see. I think that’s the way it is. Even if you know everything, even if you understand everything, there are still things that need to be said. I wanted to show it in a form like it was with me.

I kneeled down to Myrril’s eye level.

“All I want in this world is you. I want you to be with me, Myrril. From now on and forever.”

Myrril gasps as I make my confession. She meets my gaze with a soft expression, her eyes intense and challenging.

“I will be with you. Always and forever.”

It came out of nowhere.

A fierce light shot out of our rings, and with a roar, a brilliance like that of lightning spread out. There was no pain. It was an expression of power so great, so strong, so dazzling. Something huge and solid penetrated both of us and bound us tightly together.

“The vow has been made. Here is an eternal blessing.”

We were stunned by the sudden blessing from an unidentified voice, but a buzz brought us back to our senses.

We looked around and saw the people of Sarz watching us from a distance. The look on their faces was one of astonishment, fear, and a slight ecstasy as if they had just witnessed the descent of God.

“O-oh… what was that?”

“I’d like to know, but it looks like… the ‘Miraculous Lukemon’ has done something again…”

Myrril froze. I followed her gaze, and there was Ecla-san, the witch with her head in her hands.

“…What are you doing in the city in the middle of the day?”
