Chapter 507: Abyssal Reckoning? [2]
[12h: 38m: 00s]
"HRAAAH!" x 2
As their attacks became faster, so did the rate of fissures on the coral ceiling. By now, if it weren’t for the fact that the entire world was flipped so that the coral ceiling would be down instead of up, large chunks of the ceiling would’ve fallen.
Nearlo let out a low grunt as he was pushed back. The Drowned King was somehow covering ground over him!
Gritting his teeth, he pushed back, increasing his rate of stabs.
CLANG! DING! CLANG!
The illusory harpoons clashed midair with extreme speeds, deflecting each other and crashing into the ground.
By now, Nearlo’s body was growing weary and sore, fatigue quickly settling in, furthered by the amount of blood he lost. But so what? What if he was growing tired?
Could he, as the Captain, falter in front of his crewmate, who was still recovering from their horrid wounds?
He just needed to keep stabbing.
As long as he kept stabbing, he would overcome even the sense of fatigue!
With that thought in mind, he kept on attacking. But then, when he was pushing his body near the limit, the vision of the surroundings warped and spun.
His head throbbed wildly, his brain pounding against the side of his head as he felt motion sick.
[12h: 38m: 10s]
"U-ugh—"
This was—
BOOM-SWIP!
—Vertigo!
In his moment of weakness, the Drowned King wasted no time and stabbed his harpoon—the power behind his stab causing an air cone to erupt.
A sonic boom.
Nearlo, who was experiencing vertigo, felt his body sway and fall to the side—in the way of a fast approaching harpoon that would inevitably pierce through his forehead if he kept falling.
Was this it?
Was he really about because of some vertigo?
...
He refused.
Without enough time to use his magic, he pulled himself back up through sheer will, pushing through the intense motion sickness and tiredness he was experiencing.
But unfortunately—
PSHT!
—This was one of the things that came at a cost.
[12h: 38m: 14s]
Death was a patient concept, but was a sore loser when it couldn’t claim something that would’ve been its property.
Nearlo, managing to avoid near-certain death, felt the harpoon pierce through the flesh, bones, and joints of his right shoulder.
He felt the harpoon twist inside his shoulder before moving abruptly and taking off his entire shoulder and dominant arm, causing him to lose his cutlass.
Blood erupted from his severed shoulder, but he didn’t have even the slightest bit of time to worry about that.
CLANG! DING! CLANG!
Without his other arm, he was now losing the war of stabs—ultimately, on track to lose the competition of endurance.
The injuries on his body grew rapidly.
The Drowned King took a step forward, furthering the pressure he was applying on the Farland.
Then, in the midst of all the stabs, he managed to map out a path through the storm of harpoons—the destination of his mapping leading to the centre of Nearlo’s chest, his heart.
He took a voluntary step back and gripped his harpoon, preparing to deal the finishing blow that would finally end Nearlo’s life.
"This is the end for you, Farland..."
With a forward stomp, the Drowned King shot his harpoon forward, his weapon slithering through the gaps in the storm of harpoons.
Nearlo, who was in the middle of blocking another attack, found the Drowned King’s harpoon a few metres away from his chest.
"SHI—!"
With the speed at which it was moving, he doubted he could dodge in time!
His eyes widened with shock and regret as he felt the world slow down around him. Refusal flashed through his bloodshot eyes, but slowly...
Acceptance seeped into his eyes, which had slowly lost their blinding glow.
Perhaps...
Perhaps it wasn’t his destiny to get revenge for his captain...
But maybe...
[12h: 38m: 30s]
"YAR CAPTAIN ORDERS YAR TO GET OFF YAR ASS...!" Nearlo’s eyes flashed with light, the glow in his eyes fastly returning as he called out, "LILLIAN!"
In almost an instant after he called out a certain rabbit’s name...
"AYE, CAPTAIN!"
She appeared.
CLANG!
With wounds fully healed and mana fully restored with the consumption of a certain pill, Lillian wielded a long black odachi and a cutlass.
Appearing from the side, Lillian sliced through the extending water harpoon with the Black Maw, successfully saving Nearlo.
This was only possible by spamming the dash enchantment on her boots.
Lillian’s eyes, which glowed just as brightly as Nearlo’s, had a wicked grin just like the young captain.
The Drowned King’s face wrinkled at the sight of Lillian’s appearance and readied another rapid attack.
"[5th Technique of the Abyssal Harpoon: Surge of a Thousand Fangs]."
Watching as a storm of harpoons formed in their way, both the Nearlo and Lillian stood beside each other.
"Yar better keep up, matey! I don’t accept weaklings on my ship!" Nearlo shot Lillian a competitive smirk.
Lillian responded in kind, "Hah! Weakling? Keep up?! I should be the one telling you to keep up, you one-armed pirate!"
With both of them ready to brave the storm, they raised their weapons and roared out:
"[2ND TECHNIQUE OF THE DEEP SEA HUNTER: HARPOON THRUST]!" x2
Two storms of harpoons met in the middle.
One storm was filled with a darker and colder illusion of harpoons.
While the other was filled with harpoons that were inconsistent in size and speed.
The only other difference between the two was that Lillian and the Nearlo’s storm had a higher quantity of illusory harpoons.
The Drowned King leaned his body to the side, dodging a stray harpoon on the smaller side. Due to the amount of harpoons flying his way, he was actually struggling to keep up...
Gritting his teeth, he roared out as he pushed back, Lillian and Nearlo quickly joining in:
"HRAAAH!" x3
As the Drowned King continued to stab, he found the bits of coral around him begin to sizzle and glow before suddenly—
BOOM!BOOM! BOOM!
—Exploding.
The Drowned King, having been thrown back and forth by the explosions, hastily escaped the fog of smoke but was immediately attacked by both Nearlo and Lillian head-on.
Nearlo, who had temporarily regrown his arm, swung his cutlass, while Lillian, now holding the shortsword and Black Maw, swung hers.
With their speed and ferocity between attacks, they pushed back the Drowned King, increasing the number of wounds on his body.
While they awkwardly fought together at first, they quickly adapted to each other’s help, fighting like one united body!
Lillian rushed towards the Drowned King, but right as she was about to attack, she made a gesture with her sword that was caught by Nearlo.
The Drowned King noticed this and became wary. He swung his harpoon towards, intending to slice through Lillian’s flesh, but then...
SWOOP.
