Chapter 513: Abyssal Reckoning? [8]
Lillian, who usually resorted to long-range attacks with her water magic or weapons, was throwing punch after punch.
BAM.
The Drowned King, who was used to fighting with his harpoon, was throwing punch after punch as well, meeting Lillian head on with cold indifference.
BAM.
With a punch to the side of Lillian’s head, she stumbled back, clearly dazed. Right as she was about to fix her balance, she was knocked off it again by another blow to the side of her head.
Due to the Drowned King’s size and stronger body, Lillian was obviously at a disadvantage when it came to physical prowess.
BAM. BAM. BAM.
The Drowned King landed blow after blow on Lillian, who tried her best to block them. And between each punch he threw, the Drowned King muttered inquisitively:
"Why don’t you give up? In terms of physical might, I still reign above you?"
BAM.
"What reason is there for you to keep on fighting?"
BAM.
"Three of your companions are already dead, with your captain soon following them along with you."
BAM.
"Just give up and let me take over your body, woman."
Lillian stumbled back, her face bruised and bloodied from repeated blows to her head. By now, her brain was rattled, and her mind was going through the loops.
She felt like she could collapse at any moment...
And yet...
"Give up...?"
She still managed to remain on her feet.
With a fire burning inside her heart, Lillian locked eyes with the Drowned King; her eyes glowing with a determined light to remain standing.
"You want me to give up...? Heh... I can’t do that..."
"Tch... Such stubbornness will only delay the inevitable!"
Charging towards Lillian, the Drowned King raised his right fist and twisted his torso—throwing a mean right hook that would definitely leave a crack on Lillian’s skull.
But.
Right as the fist was about to make contact with the side of Lillian’s skull—
BAM!
—Lillian had already moved.
Using her shorter stature to her advantage, Lillian delivered a strong uppercut to the Drowned King that managed to knock him back a step.
"Ugh-!"
Before the Drowned King could even recover, Lillian had already taken a step forward to follow up on her attack.
BAM. BAM. BAM.
With each punch she landed, the Drowned King took a step back. Although there were times when his counterattacks managed to land, she still kept up the pressure.
BAM. BAM. BAM.
Lillian didn’t know how long it had been since they started their brawl.
Has it been seconds? Minutes? Hours?
She wasn’t sure... But what she did know was that...
Drip...
She had managed to cause the Drowned King to bleed.
Despite the sheer difference in strength between them, Lillian managed to cause him to bleed and bruise.
But she wasn’t that much different from him.
Drip... Drip...
Lillian, taking a step forward, raised her fist again with an intense look in her glowing eyes.
The Drowned King did the same, his eyes equally as intense.
BAM! x2
Splash...
Lillian flew back, falling onto her back from the Sea King’s blow. She watched as he stumbled back instead of flying like her.
The Drowned King, once regaining his balance, wiped his bloodied and bruised face with the back of his hand before cringing at the fact that Lillian was getting up again.
He then asked one more time with obvious annoyance:
"Answer me! What reason is there for you to keep on fighting!? You’ve already lost!"
Breathing heavily, Lillian gave a small smile as she responded in a hoarse voice:
"A promise..."
"... What?"
The Drowned King, confused, straightened his back with a questionable look on his face.
Lillian, noticing the look she was getting, smiled even wider.
"I promised my group I would get them out of here alive no matter what... So... As long as I’m still alive, then we haven’t lost yet—"
"YOU’RE DOING ALL OF THIS FOR A MERE PROMISE!?" The Drowned King shouted, clearly baffled that all the events that led up to this point were because of some PROMISE.
"If what you say is true and that you’re truly doing this for a promise, then evidence further points towards the fact that you lost!" The Drowned King, unexpectedly emotional, raised his voice even further.
"You had failed them! Disappointed them! In the end, you couldn’t keep your promise, so give up and just stay down—!"
"That’s where you’re wrong, Ruguda."
The Drowned King, stiffening at the fact that the woman before him knew his name, was about to inquire how she knew that piece of information, but kept quiet for what she was about to say.
"My companions aren’t disappointed in me one bit... In fact, right now, I bet they’re still watching our brawl inside my Mana Realm as we speak." Feeling a genuine smile tug at her lips, Lillian grinned, "And I have one more promise to keep..."
"And that would be...?" The Drowned King, clearly impatient, asked.
"I made a promise to myself... For someone who is waiting for me back home." Lillian slowly moved her body into a stance, raising her right fist as water began to wrap around it.
"I promised myself that the next time I get to see them, I’ll tell them how much I loved them. How much they meant to me..." With a warm gaze, she stared into the Drowned King’s eyes, who had slightly widened them.
"You once knew what it was like to have someone you love wait for you back home, right...? Ruguda, Captain of the Leviathan Drowners of the Noah’s Ark."
Ruguda, hearing his name and... Past title and role, placed a hand over half of his face as he thought about what Lillian had said.
Yes, that’s right... It had been so long that, besides his burning hatred for humans and a certain bloodline, he had almost forgotten what he was like before when he became a Sea King...
He... Had a wife, kid, and an entire fleet, didn’t he?
